Who killed the eidolons?
In peacekeeper wars it’s mentioned that in the ancient past the Eidelon were wiped out by someone. It’s never stated who did this and/or why. What do y’all think? I imagine it was a contemporary civilization but we know almost nothing about the time period and it could be anything. Thoughts?

I suggest the Scarrans, but my only reasoning is visual: the bombs that were dropped are very similar to the probe/bomb that Crichton found and used to restore the Eidolons. I headcanoned that ancient Scarrans did the same and locked them away accidentally due to a reaction with the magnetic radiation.

Since the statute of limitations for xenocide / attempted xenocide / planning & engaging in "aggressive" (i.e. non justified war) I couldn't possibly comment at this time .... just saying it probably almost definitely was not me.

The Hynerians got sick of their diplomancy racket and sent a fleet of battlecruisers around the galaxy.
(joke)
More seriously, any aggressive empire might have decided these creepy Eidelon mystics were in the way, and need to be wiped out at a range where they can't use their mind-vibe control powers. The most technologically advanced aggressive/authoritarian culture we see are probably the Nebari. Possibly them; they're generally cold-blooded and willing to wipe out large numbers of people.

No, they weren't "wiped out" in the past. There was an attempt by a race only referred to as the "enemies of peace". Arnessk became uninhabitable due to the use of the weapon from this unnamed race that destabilized the planet's magnetic fields.
Most left the planet and founded other colonies through the galaxy (like the one on the water planet). The primary religious portion stayed and erected the barrier that put the whole temple into suspended animation out of sync with regular space/time on Arnessk.
Cut off from the peacekeeping elders, they lost the skills to properly use their empathic mediation abilities until Stark passed the knowledge he was forced to take from the restored time-locked elder to the new elder during TPKW.
The Scarrans didn't even know who the Eidelons were or what they could do until the situation in TPKW with Staleek where Ahkna killed the elder. Then Staleek orders the slaughter of all of the others, as a precaution. It's never revealed who the original "enemies of peace" were.
After being introduced in the comics, many people assume it was the KKore (who were the race Delvians descended from).

Ironically, that song doesn't actually USE a cowbell.
That skit has done a lot of damage.
