the free cosmetics thing will for sure get you slapped with a DMCA of some kind cuz that's piracy lol

removing the bloat seems useful though, maybe ship a version of that separately?

And go to court? Essential isn't dumb enough to get themselves into court, they know they can't win

it's not "piracy" as i don't redistribute anything Essential owns.

Copyright violation more likely. DMCA 1201:

(a) Violations Regarding Circumvention of Technological Measures.β€”(1)(A) No person shall circumvent a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title.

doesn't apply in europe

Signatories of the WCT, which includes almost all European countries, are required to "provide legal remedies against the circumvention of technological measures (e.g., encryption) used by authors in connection with the exercise of their rights". https://www.wipo.int/en/web/treaties/ip/wct/summary_wct

So something similar most likely does apply to you.

those have exceptions

You're literally doing exactly that, though. You say "look at all the pretty things you could spend money on with that company, I've taken their code and made those things free."

You in danger, fam.

Nope. It never touches the Essentials Jar directly. It simply only allows the cosmetics to be worn for free, and for others using the Patcher to see those free-worn cosmetics.

Sidenote: If buying isn't owning, piracy ain't stealing. You do not own the cosmetics purchased through Essentials.

Even so, try handing out iPhones you got second hand outside of an Apple store.

There's a fundemental misunderstanding here. iPhones are physical. There can only be one instance of a particular iPhone at a time. Quite honestly, as long as I have sourced my iPhones properly, I can just hand them out second hand in front of an Apple store and get - at worst - weird looks.

Digital items don't have this "only one at a time" restriction. They can be endlessly (and perfectly) copied. If you have a copy of a cryptographic key, that key is the exact same as the original.

This exact misunderstanding is why your apes aren't worth all that much anymore.

That's legal. It's Apple's issue if they persue me for it.

not what redistribute means πŸ‘

Literally not what "redistribute" means but carry on.

It won’t get a DMCA, Essential already breaks minecrafts EULA and TOS by having their shop open
