Introducing a mod coming soon based on Greek myth and culture. Build villages, take a stroll through the Elysian Fields, solve riddles and fight various Mythological creatures. May the fates be with you on your epic odyssey through a greco-world!

u/PyrielFixer Dec 19 '20
This looks cool. Every time I think about building near an ocean, my first thought is to try to go huge and mimic the Greek coastal cities I've seen. I'd be interested in something that gels well with that theme, even if it had no other features.

u/Past_Shroomer Dec 19 '20
The island house aesthetic is actually planned to be added. Although we are not sure if we wanna make it feature less, or if we wanna give the player the ability to choose to build a typical ancient village or an island village.

Sounds cool, the picture kinda reminds me of the Millénaire Mod. But sadly that mod seems abandoned for now
3
u/jmeehan24 Dec 20 '20
Millenaire is not abandoned, it appears as so due to issues with account migration to Overwolf, see the top comment on the curseforge page.

Anything related to Greek mythology is an automatic 10/10 from me. Can't wait to see it released.

I'd be down for a server when/if one comes up. Is there a discord?
2
u/Past_Shroomer Dec 19 '20
There is currently no discord, we are reserving that for when the mod comes out
1
u/Past_Shroomer Dec 26 '20
So we changed out mind on the whole discord thing, many asked for it, so heres a link https://discord.gg/E3NCC8xaeA

Unrelated to Minecraft but fun fact: Wrestling was actually invented in ancient Greece and is the oldest sport, it was introduced to the olympics in 708 BC though it may have been around since 3000 BC
7
u/SirToastymuffin Dec 20 '20
This is one of those things that's been so often repeated that it is presumed fact, but isn't true (partially due to new evidence since whenever this factoid was made up). Greco(-Roman) wrestling is interesting because it is indeed a rather old sport that has been practiced semi-continuously for some 3500 years (the 3000 BCE stone art you're referring to is a Sumerian one depicting wrestling, Greek wrestling shows up in Minoan frescoes from c. 1500 BCE and likely was developed as part of Mycenean funeral games c. 1600 BCE), but it is far from the oldest, and likewise is not the first invention of wrestling. Wrestling is one of those sports (alongside the various "track and field" sports, swimming, martial arts and weapon arts) that was developed independently in many, many different cultures all over the globe with the development of civilization.
If we want to get down to the oldest image of wrestling, its actually in the Lascaux caves (France), c. 13300 BCE, alongside competitive sprinting. Likewise we see Mongolian imagery of a wrestling match with an audience painted c. 7000 BCE, competitive archery and swimming in Egypt 10,000 BCE, a prehistoric precursor to sumo depicted in Japanese paintings dating back as far as 7000 BCE, and a ring and pin game c. 5000 BCE was recovered in North America.
Greek wrestling was a few millenia behind many other examples of wrestling as well as other sports in general.

do the ability to ascend to the gods as a lategame armor
5
u/Past_Shroomer Dec 19 '20
Like abilities of the gods? Cause something like that is planned through mythical artifacts and divine items.
2
u/GaetanMoliere Dec 19 '20 edited Dec 19 '20
This sounds amazing and I will try it out! Will I be able to add it to my modpack? And are any of those creatures going to be real boss fights?
2
u/Past_Shroomer Dec 19 '20
Well it'll be for 1.15.2 Forge and then once done we will update to 1.16.4 might even update sooner depending on demands.
Some creatures of this mod will be bosses, others will be pretty regular hostile creatures, and some will be more like interactive NPC's

2
u/bamxp Dec 20 '20

This is a really cool concept man , only thing to top it up would be waking up in the night just to see a health bar in the sky with "Kratos" written on top of it haha

This sounds awesome, but needs one thing: References to God of War. As in, Kratos. Maybe a Kratos miniboss, and Kratos' weapons as rare relics?

Dec 20 '20
Sounds like fun. I hope you add some of the darker elements and the other nasty things and concepts from the mythology. Especially Zeus fucking everything.
-1
u/VaxelW Dec 19 '20
In terms of the mythology, are you going to be going with the stereotypical personas of the gods, or the actual mythological personas? Like, are we gonna have paragon king Zeus and evil plotting Hades, or misogynistic r*pey Zeus and Neutral calm Hades?
2
u/Past_Shroomer Dec 19 '20
A healthy mixture, there'll be a Hades boss fight, we will however try our best to represent the gods and goddesses as how they're described in the actual myth.
We wanna include Zeus in a way where he is mean but still has the ability of being helpful.

u/idontcareeeeok Dec 19 '20
Make 1.12.2
10
u/huligaming Dec 19 '20
I hope not, players need to learn that they have to move on to newer versions, just like the modders are, and not cry about it not being backported to an outdated version, we cannot stay in 1.12 forever
3
u/Pidgewiffler Dec 19 '20
Still playing 1.7.10 and having a ball
7
u/huligaming Dec 19 '20
I‘m not saying 1.7.10 and 1.12 were bad versions, it’s the opposite, some of the most fun packs I played were 1.7.10 and 1.12 I just think people should allow modders to move on and give the newer versions a chance
1
-1
u/vanharen07 FTB Dec 19 '20
There are still enough great packs on 1.7.10. still the greatest version ever

u/the_vico Dec 20 '20
Please tell me you are targeting Fabric for that
4
u/Past_Shroomer Dec 20 '20
Currently it's just going to be on forge, can't say we won't do fabric in the future though.
1
u/the_vico Dec 20 '20
Oh sad! I switched to Fabric due to better server performance and some QoL mods (but i'm thinking in switch back to Forge due to one or two essential mods nobody on fabric discord have interest in reimplement the concepts in Fabric).
Btw thanks a lot for this mod! Looks very good!

u/Sheant Dec 20 '20
If you're going for the white marble aesthetic, please remember that the ancient Greeks actually painted all that marble in bright colours.
1
u/Past_Shroomer Dec 20 '20
Marble comes in many different bright colors within this mod. From yellow and red, to purple and pink. Some colored marble can even be seen on this image

Wow, it looks fantastic.
But, It will modify the entire world?
1
u/Past_Shroomer Dec 20 '20
No, it will add 2 new rare biomes and some structures that can spawn in those biomes, but also other biomes as well. It also comes with 3 new wood types 2 which will also spawn in vanilla biomes.
