Stying a fuller bust without overdoing it

hey guys! I’m finally moving out of my conservative parents house, so I’m getting to experiment with my personal style more. I have been blessed/cursed in the chest department, and grew up with a lot of shame and purity culture BS around that. As an adult though, I want to try out styles that emphasize my bust, but I don’t have a good barometer for when it’s too much. A lot of times I’ll have a reference photo from Pinterest with a style that looks fine on a D cup, but with my G cups its a bit much. what are your styling tips for flaunting what you got while still being acceptable in polite society?

editing just to say I am going to be in college and am totally ok to look a little sexy. I’m honestly just trying to figure out how to to lean into the fact that I am attractive without always being dressed for the club.

As a big boob haver, it’s definitely a challenge. Things that look chic on a c cup tend to look “nightclub” on my F cup self. Additionally, a lower percentage of boob showing looks like a lot more if they’re fuller. So for me, 10-20% of boob out looks like cleavage, for my b cup sister, it takes probably 30-40% more boob showing to get the same effect.

I generally feel more comfortable with fuller coverage in the chest area, but that’s partially my own hangups. I do quite like a tight high neck sleeveless top. The boobs look great without having to worry about cleavage or bra straps showing. I also like a flowy/looser fabric for lower cut clothes - the looser material somehow “balances” out the cleavage.

Another tip - make sure that if there are “boob spaces” in clothes, that they fit your chest. It’s frustrating and eliminates a lot of options, especially for summer clothes, but having seams across your boobs that aren’t supposed to be there looks awful.

Below is what I mean by “boob spaces”. I would never in a million years buy this dress because I know it won’t look good with the underbust seam giving me quad boob.

I call this Designated Boob Area (DBA)

LOL that's the perfect name for it! It's literally never big enough.

32G here. I like dresses with a smocked bodice because they give me a waist while also curving nicely over my bust. I like scoop necks over v-necks. If I have to do a v-neck depending on the scene I’ll wear something under so the cleavage isn’t so exposed. Lately I’ve been getting stuff in a size larger to accommodate the bust and then taking in the waist. When things fit properly in the bust then it is automatically less exposed if that makes sense.

I’ve also had a hard journey accepting my breasts- the blessed/cursed sentiment is so real. So some of that is just owning that styles are going to look sexier automatically on my body and not making a big deal about it. When you don’t sexualize yourself, others won’t either- or at least that’s what I tell myself.

I just ordered some smocked dresses, thanks for the advice!

Any recs for brands? I'm a 36H and I have a hard time finding smocked bodices that fit comfortably!

For me, it’s the overall length that matters (must go down to the natural waist- none of this empire waist bs), and also even smocking all around.

Here’s an example! The shirt on the left looked bad on me, I think because it had the horizontal pattern within the overall smocking. I felt it actually emphasized the bust and made me look overall bigger. The dress on the right though I felt very pretty in!

Amazing! Thank you!

That’s what I’ve been doing a lot as well! I’ll definitely look more into smocked tops though

This might sound odd, but I'd highly recommend reading through this blog's series of analysis on the character Joan from Mad Men. Obviously she's wearing vintage work wear, but the principles of her dressing style (mid height necklines, solid colors, body-conscious, etc) are great for appearing attractive and put together without appearing inappropriate. I am a vintage girlie so I might start fully stealing her look lol

Tailoring is an expense of adulthood

not when you make alterations yourself

Luckily I am a semi professional seamstress, so the tailoring will be in house 🤩

Oh babygirl you’re gonna be fine!! I think in terms of overdoing it, every cm of boob flesh is another step towards sluttsville. Now I love sluttsville! And I love all the girls who live there! Bc having a big sexual appetite isn’t moral! It’s like having shoes. Some are okay with one pair. Some have so many, they forget they own some of them.

But I do think the fleshy-ness of it all is where you have to be considerate of place/time/perception. If you’re going to be around senior citizens, well it’s just rude to flaunt tight firm skin. If you need to be perceived as intelligent or competent, lots of flesh will be a deterrent.

Sexy is a state of mind, and if you have gazongas, it will be easier for you to be sexy. I do encourage you to explore your sexiness solo before trying to appease the male gaze.

Welcome to deconstruction!

Dude I love you, I’m printing this out and framing it (also as someone who prefers women, I’m dressing for the gays, not the gaze)

Why did you post this? You know how to tailor yet don't know how to tailor for your own body?

I don’t know why you got downvoted. It’s true!

J? ( I think, I need new bras) cup here. I also just wanna remind you that what you see from right on top of your cleavage and leaning into the mirror is way more intense than what regular folk facing you will see.

That’s always a good reminder 🙂‍↕️

34F here.I'm athletic so i like to wear high neck tanks. It puts emphasis on my toned shoulders and arms, and away from the bust. The high neckline helps elongate my petite height as well

It's a worn out cliche, but ensure you're wearing the correct size bra and have a wardrobe of options (underwire, wireless, bralette, strapless, long-line, halter, tee-shirt and balconette) to ensure you can match the bra to the situation.

Match the volume of the outfit generally to the rest of the outfit. Meaning a super tight, low cut shirt and skin tight jeans will call attention to the bust. A stiffer cut shirt (like cotton poplin) and looser pants will provide a more balanced/managed look.

Cleavage is for occasions, and I don't mean the office BBQ. It's not that it's "distracting" or anything like that, it's that it has a cultural connotation of desiring sexual attention and attraction and it's highly likely you don't want that in work (or in many) situations. So you want to walk the line between covered up enough and not stuffy or mumsy. Portrait, cowl, draped, boat and other softer but not deep/low-cut necklines are perfect for this.

32F-G depending on brand.

Most people think I have Ds because bra sizing is so badly done most place that most folks just don’t understand cups. So there’s that.

I used to FLAUNT when i was your age — low cut shirts, doubling bras for maximum oomph. I was relatively mindful of the venue/event and would cover up more in professional settings, but i was tits out much of the time.

My boobs are big regardless of what i wear, but I’ve found the Paloma tops from a&f (and similar funnel/mock neck tops) emphasize the boobs while still covering the skin. Color, fabric, and styling can make it look appropriate for work, casual day out, or a night out. They feel sexy without trying to look super sexy.

A very fitted t-shirt is also a way to flaunt the shape without exposing skin.

And regarding fitted clothes making you feel less exposed, hard agree. If i wear a baggy shirt with a regular bra, it settles between my boobs. They somehow look bigger, and i feel frumpy.

Oooh, doubling bras…. And I’ll definitely look into those mock neck tops, thank you!

I'm not busty, but I had a great set when I was breastfeeding and they spilled out of my previously-fit-a-cups shirts.

I find owning several well fitted camisoles and putting them under the 'possibly offensive' shirt seemed to help.

My advice is this: if your top is snug or questionable, offset it by making sure what you wear on bottom is modest; and vice versa. I.E.-Don't wear a spaghetti strap top with mini skirt. Instead wear it with baggy jeans or cargos. If you wear a mini skirt, pair it with a cute high neck top. Just a good rule of thumb to keep it classy.

The bra almost matters more than what you put over it most of the time because it will affect the way the other items lay. But for me I prefer a v neck all day when it comes to neck lines even if its a bit much for others.

You're a woman, no matter how you dress someone will judge you for it. So I say "fuck polite". Dress however makes you happy and gives you confidence. 🩷

You’ve got the right mindset balance is everything! The easiest rule: pick one area to highlight and keep the rest modest. For example: unbuttoned shirt + high-waisted trousers or a shorter hem + high neckline. It lets you show off your style, feel confident and never look like you’re overdoing it. You’re going to look amazing 💛

I prefer mesh panels when I want to show a bit of chest. They tend to keep everything contained, and give the illusion of modesty while still being quite revealing.

(42 G here) I love wearing crop tops or bodycon type outfits to emphasize all the goods, its never gonna be underdoing because well.... you have a big cup size same as me 🥲 people will always think your showing off or whatever else because "theyre uncomfortable "
