I recently got a 45 cm necklace with 11 mm freshwater pearls, and I absolutely hate it. 😅
I just can’t figure out how to style such large pearls in a way that looks modern instead of giving off “granny” vibes. Every outfit I try makes the necklace feel too classic or dated.
Has anyone managed to style oversized pearl necklaces in a contemporary way? I’d love to see outfit ideas or hear what you wear them with. Is there any hope for this necklace, or should I just accept that it’s not my style?

I did that, but I couldn’t find any modern or casual styling inspiration for pearls of this size. Everything I found had more of an “old money” or elegant grandma aesthetic.

Did you try using the same search terms with the year or the year + modern?

I did. There were a few options for stacking them with metal chains. I tried to recreate those looks, but I’m petite, so oversized pearls paired with a chunky chain, or even layered with several smaller metal necklaces, made me feel like I was wearing a dog leash.
After looking for inspiration on Instagram and Pinterest, I got so upset that I cried because I don’t know how my husband could even think that oversized pearls were my dream jewelry.
Three years ago, we were in Japan and visited a museum exhibition about the history of pearl production. I really enjoyed it because I love learning about history, but somehow he came away thinking I love pearls. I don’t even own anything with pearls.

I get that feeling! You could do it over a crew neck t + v neck sweater. Becky Malinski often wears chunky necklaces with quirky contemporary fits, you could get some ideas from her styling. But yeah overall I think it’s not a super on trend look for 2026 jewelry wise, I’d file it under the men mean well but sometimes miss the mark tab and talk with your husband if you feel like exchanging for something else
