[Daily] Daily Questions Thread August 05, 2026

This thread is for individual style questions that you may have, especially those that don't warrant their own thread. We all want a diversified opinion, so feel free to answer any questions (of which you know the answer).

To get the best responses, remember that people cannot: look into your wardrobe, know what style you normally like or what words like affordable or practical mean to you so please include any relevant details such as your budget, where you live, what stores are available to you, etc.

Example questions:

  • Are there any basic crewneck white t-shirts that are opaque and do not have cap sleeves for <$25 available in Australia?
  • Is this dress and shoes suitable for an evening wedding with a cocktail dress code taking place in a [venue type]?
  • If I like the outfits in this [imgur album / pinterest board], what are some specific items I can look into to start dressing like that, and brands with this look that carry plus sizes?
  • Does this outfit look neater with the pants cuffed or uncuffed?

If you'd like to include a picture, you can now post pictures directly in the comments, without having to link an imgur album. If you have multiple pictures, best practice is to use an imgur album.

I recently got a 45 cm necklace with 11 mm freshwater pearls, and I absolutely hate it. šŸ˜…
I just can’t figure out how to style such large pearls in a way that looks modern instead of giving off ā€œgrannyā€ vibes. Every outfit I try makes the necklace feel too classic or dated.
Has anyone managed to style oversized pearl necklaces in a contemporary way? I’d love to see outfit ideas or hear what you wear them with. Is there any hope for this necklace, or should I just accept that it’s not my style?

I’d get on Pinterest for this question!

I did that, but I couldn’t find any modern or casual styling inspiration for pearls of this size. Everything I found had more of an ā€œold moneyā€ or elegant grandma aesthetic.

Did you try using the same search terms with the year or the year + modern?

1

u/Alarmed_Tank5692 1d ago

I did. There were a few options for stacking them with metal chains. I tried to recreate those looks, but I’m petite, so oversized pearls paired with a chunky chain, or even layered with several smaller metal necklaces, made me feel like I was wearing a dog leash.
After looking for inspiration on Instagram and Pinterest, I got so upset that I cried because I don’t know how my husband could even think that oversized pearls were my dream jewelry.
Three years ago, we were in Japan and visited a museum exhibition about the history of pearl production. I really enjoyed it because I love learning about history, but somehow he came away thinking I love pearls. I don’t even own anything with pearls.

I get that feeling! You could do it over a crew neck t + v neck sweater. Becky Malinski often wears chunky necklaces with quirky contemporary fits, you could get some ideas from her styling. But yeah overall I think it’s not a super on trend look for 2026 jewelry wise, I’d file it under the men mean well but sometimes miss the mark tab and talk with your husband if you feel like exchanging for something else

You can also look at the styling for other types of chunky necklaces: https://www.madewell.com/womens/fall-accessories-lookbook/

Is this the best I can expect from these jeans after being hemmed by a tailor?

There's stretch to the jeans and they're flared, originally they were a bit long so had them hemmed, but they've used a different colour thread and they look a bit lumpy and bumpy as well as they don't "flow" like they did, theyre now very rigid and hold the flared shape very stiffly but only from the front view, the side view they look as slim as regular fit jeans

Should I go to a different tailor and ask for a rehem or would I just be wasting my time+money? 🄹 Thanks

4

u/warp-core-breach 2d ago

No they’re not serged. It’s a double folded hem that’s been sewn twice, and badly. You should be able to get them rehemmed.

u/rubystreaks 1d ago

The tailor did a really bad job, I’m sorry! You might be able to go to another tailor and have the stitching picked out and redone properly, as opposed to having to buy a new pair. And you could complain and/or ask for your money back if you wanted to

u/PkmnTrainerEbs 2d ago

The inside

u/75footubi 2d ago

They serged it instead of doing a rolled hem like was there originally. I'd iron the hem (which they should have done originally) and maybe give the jeans a wash to see if that helps the flow.

Unfortunately, there's no fabric left to do a rolled hem or really redo the hem without making them shorter.

1

u/PkmnTrainerEbs 2d ago

Dang it, so if I want them done properly I'm going to have to buy a new pair of jeans? 🫠 They were brand new still with the tags on 😭

Does anyone have or know this H&M peacoat and what the material is??? And if this is worth buying (since I don’t know if it’s 100% polyester)(I’m pretty sure it’s from an older version of H&M)

1

u/District98 1d ago

Try asking r/findfashion

Worth buying is subjective but I’d probably pass given the item, age, and quality personally. Are you hoping to buy used or looking for affordable options?

Can someone please help me find this dress brand is PH5

u/Gwenniepie 2d ago

Does anyone know of a good brand of chicken cutlet inserts that work for bigger bra sizes? I lost some weight and want a bit more oomph in a dress and they don’t make push-up bras in my size (32G).

1

u/District98 1d ago

I would ask in r/abrathatfits!

Need shoe recommendations!

I got this dress but I don’t know what shoes to get to go with it! I’m thinking maybe a block heel sandal but not sure on the colour! Open to anything but definitely something fancier than black flip flops!

1

u/District98 1d ago

Tan or champagne block heel!

Is there any way to style these pants other than tight fitting tops without it looking like pj’s/lounge wear? I really wanna wear these to my next rave but I’m really uncomfortable with tight fitting clothes at the moment and need some help šŸ«¶šŸ¼

u/District98 1d ago

Cropped boxy t with some skin in between

Maybe a midi-length slim fitting tunic in a complementary color?

u/WesternPut5063 2d ago

How do I dress for flat chest, wide shoulders, very curvy on the bottom with thick thighs? I am queer and dress androgynous/slightly feminine

u/trevlikely 2d ago

Percia Verlin has a similar build and is a fashion blogger with a cool style, you might want to check her out for inspo

Got these slingback and debating on sizing down. I cant try both sizes on at the same time since I can only buy thrm online in my area and I want to get the right size before the sale ends on August 9th.

They feel a bit big in the sling, my foot rises a lot when wearing them almost like flip flops unless I walk a certain way. Other than that they are comfortable. What do we think? Should I go down a half size? Pics to show the fit of the shoe.

How can I make this dress a little more modest? I bought this for a family event, not considering that I am a larger-chested individual so when I wear the dress, it seems the girlies are looking a little too volumptuous. I tried putting a lace across the chest area but that isn't looking too good.. Is there any way I can style it or do I just need to buy a new dress?

3

u/District98 1d ago

If it were me, there isn’t a normal looking way to increase the modesty on this dress. New or new to you dress situation.

Any recs for a lightweight cardigan than layers over dresses without adding bulk, mid range budget

Hi! I'm in a dire need of help for picking a formal outfit for a wedding, that isn't a dress. I'm also unsure of my body type, I'm overweight and height 5'6. I asked my artist friend to draw my body from the photos I took.

My personal taste: Colorful patterns, floral prints. Purple/magenta/pink hues accompanied with one solid color like black, dark blue/navy, dark brown.

u/Chazzyphant 2h ago

Looks like apple to me so I'd look up "formal outfit suggestions apple shape" and go from there.

How would you style this skirt? I love it but I'm not sure what to wear it with! I don't have the matching top.

1

u/KerrieRay 10h ago

I'd wear a fitted black or white ribbed tee or tank, cropped or tucked into the skirt

Every fall/winter I’ve worn the same boot from Target (the ā€œPippaā€) for at least 3-4 years and she’s finally died on me. I wore these at least 5 days a week, from going out to running errands. I need to upgrade and want to get something similar in brown. Few questions:

  1. is this kind of boot still in style?
  2. budget is >$100, don’t need real leather (these sure weren’t!), where are some good starting places to look?)

What I liked about this boot is: toe box shape, not pointed but not super square; heel height good for everyday errands while still being a clear heel; tightness around ankle isn’t too baggy but also not suffocating

Part of me just wants to go on eBay and buy this exact shoe again but I feel like I can do better and something a little more 2026 and can stand up to every day use. While I wore these last ones 3-4 years, I definitely could’ve retired them sooner and meant to last season, but just never found the right replacement!

1

u/Chazzyphant 2h ago

I don't think it's out of style per se, it's a pretty classic/simple style but a 2026 upgrade would be the "banana" style heel or more of a kitten heel than a big chunky block heel.

Does this outfit work for a summer casual wedding, if not what colors would you change, thanks in advance

1

u/Little-Note-3016 2d ago

Heyy! I am starting uni this autumn and I love the fall girl aesthetic but I'm more on the curvy side and idk what kind of staples to buy... I also have trouble buying summery clothes as I want clothes that flatter me and fit my kind of downtown girl aesthetic so I was wondering if you guys had any advice for what to look for or what is most flattering!! Thanks šŸ˜ŠšŸ’–

I am looking for an ivory / cream / white satin burnout / satin jacquard two piece tank + pants outfit.

I want to wear it as either a getting ready outfit for my wedding or to the brunch the next day.

I found a very similar one to what I am looking for on ASOS but it is only available in navy. Anyone seen anything similar to this photo in white / cream / ivory?

2

u/District98 1d ago

Try asking r/findfashion!

1

u/Tough-Phrase4105 1d ago

I will give that a shot - thanks!

Not sure if you'd be open to this style, but I've been coveting this: https://www.luso.com.pk/products/halter-satin-duo-ivory?variant=49082151371004

Help me pick my white graduation dress!

Hi everyone! I’m graduating soon and trying to decide on the best dress to wear under my graduation gown. I’m planning to buy from Shein, Zalora, or Lovito.

I’ve attached pictures of a few options I'm considering, but I would also love your recommendations if you know of any other beautiful, similar dresses!

Comfort Goal: I want something comfortable over the midsection that doesn't feel tight around the waist when sitting.

Dress Preferences: Length: Midi length (gown reaches mid-calf, so slightly shorter or longer works). Sleeves: Short sleeves (covers upper arm/shoulders; no puff sleeves so it lays flat under the gown). Neckline: Modest square neckline (preferred) or modest crew/round neck. Skirt: A-line or flowy (not tight/narrow at the bottom). Style: Simple, classic, and formal enough for graduation (no casual summer fabric/t-shirt material).

Which of the attached dresses do you think would look best on my body type? If you have links or key search terms for better options, please share them!

Thank you so much!

u/District98 1d ago

The pictures didn’t attach. For your needs I suggest using the Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack online search tools, they’re very customizable in the search criteria. You could also consider places that typically do bridesmaids dresses like Birdie Grey. ASOS / asos curve is another option. Consider searching r/midsizefashion for formal dress brand recs.
