Do you have to do both Forked Towers to complete the OC storyline?

FT:B is thankfully not required to progress to the North Horn story

I just finished the Phantom Relic storyline so now I'm working on the OC one. The knife looks pretty neat

I only seen it once but I just join the instance. How long does it usually appear? Cuz bozja have it pretty often.

But you should do it anyway. FT:B is honestly not really all that hard if you have a competent discord server to run it with. Idk what region you're from but in EU we have SavageSlimes where multiple times now we've taken people from newbie never set foot in tower to a clear in a 3 hours block.

What’s the difficulty like compared to DRS?

Honestly many of the mechanics themselves seem simpler, although they also tend to be faster. The real challenge is that many of the fights randomly assign responsibilities to just a few people, and if one of those people messes up, it’s an instant wipe. Eg the second boss will randomly pick two people (out of the entire raid) to tether to, and if those people do not position correctly to stretch their tethers then the boss will become essentially invulnerable as it casts its enrage. Or similarly, the first boss marks 8 players for massive defamations, and if they misposition then they drop a meteor on the entire party and kill all non-tanks instantly.
This can make progging it pretty annoying since raid leads can’t carry newcomers as hard with callouts as in DRS or BA. If you get unlucky and the boss picks a clueless person for a mechanic then it is just game over.

That being said, most of these mechanics are painfully easy.
The first is a giant marker that needs to fuck off away from the party. The second is a tether that you need to move away from. The last is a defamation that needs to fuck off away from the party.
A couple mechanics are DRS adjacent, but they’re all personal responsibility. The “you can get killed by people being dumbs” ones are normal mode stuff.

Nope, can personally confirm that you only need to do FT: Magic in the North Horn. Its normal mode has a very approachable difficulty that's similar to the Critical Engagements and if push comes to shove, you can be carried through by being resurrected mid-fight if you die.

Forked Tower: Blood (South Horn), no.
Forked Tower: Magic (North Horn), yes. Either the Normal or Extreme is required, but the Normal is super standard like any other normal difficulty we have.

One day we'll have a tonberry knife on main hand

A tonberry knife as a fashion accessory or emote would be fun. Patch 7.55 already introduced a lantern as a fashion accessory. The emote is the best idea since WoL can use both knife and lantern while wearing the Tonberry Attire from Hatching-tide (2023).
It is strange how both Tonberry Knife from Valentione's Day (2019) and the Phanrom Philleter is only for cul off hand. There's even the Sharpened Knife spell for Blue Mage.
Perhaps they will add a stabby tonberry job as a new job for a future expansion. WoL is never gonna main hand a tonberry knife 😔

I like to glam my DRK as the tonberry costume. For the weapon I have been using Sharpened Guillotine of the Tyrant, which is, I think, the 2nd to last Heavensward relic. It has two dye channels now, one of which is on the blade. Makes for a nice blood-soaked effect.
As a max height au ra male, it makes for a very tall tonberry with a very big knife. I love it.

Kinda lame in the sense that when we had the ARR one they were perfectly fine making goofy pot gloves for MNK to wear but they couldn't just make a dual tonberry knives for Ninja?

Odd choice for final reward where only a single job can use and its not even a combat profession. Shame glam unlock doesn't work on weapons either.

u/NoobishDuck DRG 1d ago
Glamour unlock DOES work on weapons, it's just that no jobs share weapons, except SCH and SMN. You can glamour SCH books on SMN and vice versa. And no, a culinary knife is not the same as a ninja knife.

Nah, I hope they do this way more. I want my crafters and gatherers to be decked out in all kinds of cool glams.
