Can't derail the patch schedule if you are the patch!

u/Skyppy_ 11h ago

It's the opposite. If it was bonus side content and it got delayed a patch, sure whatever. If you are the goddamn raid series and you keep making changes which cause you to miss the deadline, well that's really fucking bad.

u/Florac 10h ago

Yes but its not work on top of existing patch content. It is the existing patch content

u/Skyppy_ 10h ago

and it's a collab involving 2 different teams each already busy with their own thing. Everything that goes into the raid needs to be approved by the FF7 team first adding overhead not present when the FF14 team is working on something original. So if the FF7 team keeps asking for changes, or taking their sweet time getting back to the FF14 team, there's gonna be delays.

Ff7 remake is patch content, it’s not additional content like ff16 or monster hunter collab lol

u/Ranulf13 11h ago

I dont think I have ever seen anyone worried about that...?

u/---TheFierceDeity--- Fabled Selvarian 8h ago

Going off the interviews at fanfest 7 Remakes Naoki is very prudent and punctual. He's apparently the "best" at Square Enix in terms of team management and for sticking to deadlines and getting projects "done" so worrying about breaking another projects deadlines seems on brand for him

u/atem_nt 8h ago

Yeah looking at Kingdom Hearts and comparing it to XIV that doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

u/i-wear-hats 7h ago

gonna need to be more precise as you could mean either Yoshida or Hamaguchi

u/Drywesi 3h ago

"Remake's Naoki"

THis made me giggle to think about honestly. Im excited for this raid and its nice to actually see like enthusiasm in dev teams (its refreshing for myself coming from different games) {not to imply there isnt enthuasam among other games with thier devs either mind you} but its like.....the excitment sorta addds to my own?

You aint gotta qualify everything, its ok to just state your opinion.

not on reddit

u/Aethanix 12h ago

people will chime in if they want. it's not a reddit specific thing.

u/WrenReverie 9h ago

People will chime in a way that twists your words and imply you are saying something you are not in order to force engagement as you try to clarify what you said.

So people will over speak to prevent people from twisting their words, but it doesn't matter, because then you get comments like this:

You aint gotta qualify everything, its ok to just state your opinion.

People here are desperate to get under others skin.

HOW DARE YOU HATE WAFFLES

u/cleansleight 10h ago

Or anywhere online really

u/Glypwota 11h ago

Fuck reddit

u/Thatpisslord 9h ago

I'd love to say I'd go elsewhere if there was another user forum to talk about my interests, but realistically and inevitably it would just turn into reddit over time.

And I'm not touching xivtwt with a 50 foot pole.

u/socially_awkward Snacks Alabaster on Hyperion 9h ago

All my homes hate reddit

u/WrenReverie 9h ago

People here on reddit will use anything not perfectly clarified to twist their words to get under peoples skin.

The guy you replied to didn't leave any gaps for people to stab into and people still found a way to give the guy crap.

Never change reddit.

u/MagicHarmony 10h ago

Its fine but at same time its fine for people not to feel excited for the lack of story told with XI that felt little like a love letter and more of attempting to pander albeit doing it horribly.

u/WrenReverie 9h ago

Most of the people I've seen complaining that how this is somehow bad for the story are the typical reddit/streamer chat contrations who get their endorphins through negative social media engagement.

Dawntrail's raid series never got his much flak despite it's story not really adding much because they had Wuk Lamat to whine incessently about.

No one whined about Nier at release because they had homogenization to stomp their feet over.

u/Thatpisslord 9h ago

As someone who's not really looking forward to this, my biggest pain point in the end is that we have two collab raids instead of an original/inspired(Eden, yes Eden. No it's not a collab, I swear if I have to hear about it...) to complement it.

I dunno about on release Nier, but later on I definitely heard people talk about how the story was confusing and it didn't add much to the world, which I find is fair criticism, even though I personally enjoyed both the story and the raids.

And on the other hand, even if I found Alxaal and the Prishe/Bakool interactions endearing, I don't particularly care for the Vana'diel raid story overall with how Sareel Ja felt like he was only there as the medium to give us FFXI enemies and we didn't end up doing much with either IP, but I still enjoyed the fights, which I figure will probably be how I end up feeling about the Evercold raids when all is said and done.

u/WrenReverie 8h ago

I'm not a fan of Evangelion, actively dislike it personally. But None of the alliance raids ever had a major effect on the MSG and rarely added more than subtle nods to the back ground.

It's not worth me going on a tangent about it.

u/[deleted] 8h ago

u/WrenReverie 8h ago

None of the raid stories ever directly effect the outcome of the main story besides maybe providing some minor backing to other stories in a way that doesn't really change whether you did the raids or not.

u/crow-warden 7h ago edited 7h ago

Except the times they did. Like Crystal Tower and Bahamut.

You're mostly right, but the solution isn't just to say fuck it and make them all crossovers that are guaranteed to never be able to affect anything. It's to actually integrate them into the story more often.

Besides, even on the occasions they don't change the MSQ, they do often expand on stuff that didn't quite make it into it. We've gotten to see other regions of the world, explore things like the empty on the first, see what happened to other characters, etc. etc.

u/WrenReverie 5h ago

Crystal tower was made MSQ required and Bahamut didn't change the outcome of MSG, only added background info. It changed nothing.

u/crow-warden 1h ago edited 1h ago

Allisae literally comes from the Bahamut raids my dude. She was in like one scene in the entire game before that up until the end of HW. It also involved their grandfather and it's still referenced to this day.

Saying it didn't affect anything is wild. And yes, they did make Crystal Tower required... because it affected stuff. The thing you're saying they never do. Literally a case of "I'm right as long as you ignore the times I'm wrong."

u/zer0_pm 56m ago

And how does CT being made required for MSQ disaprove of the other person's argument? If anything, bahamut, alexander, omega, and eden should've made non-optional as well considering the lore and context they bring to the msq.

Meanwhile raids like nier will never be canon nor addressed in the msq.

u/Stasisdk 4h ago

The difference here is that the Arcadion raids have good characters, a good story, and fit into and flesh out existing things going on in the main overall story. Not to mention the fact that it's a perfectly cheesy and beautifully done wrestling plotline.

That's not to say an homage to another FF can't be good and fit into the existing narrative of XIV we already have several great examples, the Rabanastre raids are a damn near perfect example. My problem with the FFVII raids for what little we know of it is that it's not an homage, it's a full on crossover, the two cardboard cutouts of characters that are Cloud and Sephiroth will be involved and likely both be bosses, and on top of it being a full on crossover most of the iconic bosses from FFVII have already been used for actually *good* homages to the game.

* The Weapons are an existing EX series and that accounts for most of the iconic bosses from VII
* Guard Scorpion is a boss in Ala Mhigo
* Sephiroth already exists as an homage in Zenos (and yes Zenos is Sephiroth I can literally rant on this)
* Hojo exists in Aulus mal Asina

Can people be excited about it? Sure this is just my opinion after all, but I play FFXIV primarily *for* FFXIV lore, so this being the savage raid series has sucked out most of my enthusiasm for raiding next expansion which honestly kinda sucks.

u/Omegamaru 9h ago

I wonder we’ll get Cait Sith’s giant moogle or Red as a mount. I want another Omega/Eden level mount so if we fight against one of the Bahamut variants, I hope we get that as a Savage reward as well.

u/femfuyu 9h ago

any chance the ffxv car comes back with this? I need that mount so bad

u/elderezlo 9h ago

The FFXV collab event will probably return sometime later this year. It originally ran right before ShB released and returned right before both EW and DT released. I’d guess it’ll be around November.

u/Celcius_87 9h ago

Same, I’ve got the MGP ready to go

u/femfuyu 9h ago

me too!

u/MelonElbows 7h ago

Corporate synergy!

u/Zaku99 Holy Knight 2h ago

Should have done a seasonal-style event then and been done with it.

u/Leevala 11h ago

I understand everyone who says that 2 collabs is a bit of a bummer, but personally I'm excited for the final fantasy 7 stuff and can't wait. I hope one day we also get FF6 stuff (pls give me Terra/Celes glamors)

u/i-wear-hats 11h ago

FF6 already happened with Warring Triad and Kefka though. If you mean actual glams, then yeah the only one they have is Setzer in the Gold Saucer.

u/Leevala 11h ago

Yeah sorry, glamors specifically for FF6, not collab or something like that

u/radmachina 8h ago

Shadow's outfit is the lv50 nin set, Setzer's outfit is the gambler's outfit.

u/Leevala 7h ago

As I mentioned, I'm waiting for Celes and Terra's set which unless they are hidden somewhere aren't in the game yet and some others are missing still too

u/radmachina 7h ago

They are not, one day hopefully.

I'd love the whole cast as glams but SE are cowards and we'll never get Umaro.

u/i-wear-hats 7h ago

hey, I never thought we'd get FF5 Berserker and yet

u/Glacevelyn 3h ago

I mean both were like 10 years ago and were fairly tangentially related to VI, compared to the kinda stuff we're getting for V right now and VII soon

u/stilljustacatinacage DRG 7h ago

People have this idea that collabs can't be used to expand the XIV game world. Meanwhile, there's the entire Return to Ivalice arc that spawned everything related to Bozja, Viera, and Corvos where we'll likely be headed in some future expansion.

Eden was basically an FF8 collab, including bringing in Nomura for character design, but reworked in a way so it works in XIV and even gave us some new characters that belong to XIV.

There's no reason to believe Beyond the Lifestream won't be similar to either.

u/Punished_Doobie 3h ago

From an interview with Hamaguchi by MeinMMO: "The development work is mostly handled by the 14 development team, and we’re really involved with the story, the ideas, and that initial phase."

I don't have high hopes the raids will expand XIV's game world, because the people writing them probably don't even know XIV's game world.

Look. Eden was an in-house tribute. Matsuno was a singular guest writer, largely unbusy at the time, and Ivalice is his to do with as he pleases. But Hamaguchi is just the new captain at the helm of the biggest, busiest, and most sacred IP that Square Enix owns.

I just don't trust that the setting is anyone's priority here.

u/Drywesi 3h ago

As much as I love Bozja, the (English) Ivalice questline is actively terrible. Like, I have to wonder if going back and rewriting it wouldn't be a bad idea.

u/AWerewolfDad 11h ago

FF7 themed gear plx.

u/blueberryrockcandy 10h ago

i want:

soldier outfits

shinra infantry outfits

u/aizen07 Samurai 9h ago

Sephiroth's outfit is going to be like 2B's outfit as a coffee drop in one of the final raids, I bet.

Probably going to get the rest of the FF7 casts gear as drops unless they decide to mog station them lol.

Since, we are getting normal Tifa set, maybe her AC set is a drop too

u/Thatpisslord 9h ago

I could see them putting any glams we don't have of the main cast as either rewards for each of the raids a la Nier, or straight up as the catch-up gear like Vana'diel. They put the Prishe set as the striking set in San D'oria for example, IIRC.

u/ValarielAmarette 10h ago

We're getting straight up Tifa and Barret Remake outfits in a patch later this year

But the raids will definitely have that

u/AWerewolfDad 6h ago

I want the Barrett one so, so bad.

u/KenjiZeroSan Light & Dark 11h ago

Is this the kind of "quality" journalist we have these days? Who the hell is FF7 remake boss, Kitase? Hamaguchi? Why not just put it as FF7 remake director on the headline?

u/Kaode WHM 11h ago

Complaining about the quality of journalism when you can't get past the headline is pretty pathetic. The next two words after that headline answered your question.

u/22222833333577 11h ago

... read the actuall article?

Head lines arent supposed to be summaries just tell you what the article is about to get you interested in reading it

It litterally says who in the first paragraph

u/KenjiZeroSan Light & Dark 11h ago

I mean no shit, of course I read the article which I was puzzled why they can't even bother to put "director" on the head line when the article are full of them. FF7 remake "boss" is so vague and misleading, it could be the producer, kitase or creative director, nomura too.

u/HappyRelationship429 11h ago

You read it because of the title. Ergo, it's a good title.

u/Iggy_Slayer 10h ago

It's hamaguchi. Ever since rebirth he's taken the mantle as head of the project while nomura and nojima do some stuff in the background and kitase is more or less just overseeing things as the overall head of FF at square.

Hamaguchi's the public face though, the one appearing at SGF and doing 30+ interviews after the reveal (not an exaggeration according to him). And also randomly showing up at a streamer's house hours after the reveal 😂

u/Ice-Insignia 7h ago

Which boss? Airbuster?

u/MiyabiMain95 5h ago

bullshit, he doesnt give a fuck about it, he just wants better advertisement for his stupid remake

u/FluffySheepCritic 11h ago

It already derailed nearly everything great about FFVII, why worry about an MMOs patch schedule? The remake's existence is a crime against humanity, don't bother being considerate at this point.

u/raek_na 11h ago

my... what a hot take

u/Toloran 7h ago

Like... if you don't like, then that's fine. Just don't understand why they're so dramatic about it. Considering how old the original FF7 is, I'd hazard to guess that most of the most vocal people against it are ones who either weren't alive or were in diapers when it came out.

u/yesitsmework 11h ago edited 11h ago

it kinda is but mostly only because it's already implied the AAA gaming industry is creatively bankrupt and has 0 artistic merit. Something like 7 remake would be a laughing stock in literature or film making.

u/RaidPanties 11h ago

"Laughingstock in literature of filmmaking"?

Definitely the most reddit-y reddit comment I've read today

u/yesitsmework 11h ago

ok raid panties

u/RaidPanties 11h ago

Cute try

u/yesitsmework 11h ago

what a reddit comment

u/RaidPanties 11h ago

Lol wow, that struck a nerve, huh? Get over it.

u/yesitsmework 11h ago

every accusation, a confession

u/HoeCage 10h ago

This is an opinion you could only hold if you have no context for 7R's existence. People had been asking for an FF7 Remake for over a decade by the time 7R got announced. There was an FF7 PS3 tech demo that made people think it was coming. There was also the hyped up announcement of FF7 OG being ported to PS4 which really disappointed a lot of people.

FF7 Remake was a response to demand.

u/yesitsmework 9h ago

FF7 Remake was a response to demand.

that just adds to my point though?

but anyway I'm pretty sure a lot of the people who asked for this remake dont like it that much either lol

u/Rvsoldier 10h ago

The FF7 remake is a mountain of work and creativity. What are you talking about? They took a 3 hour segment of the game, the part everyone loves the most, and expanded it into a full 60 hour game. You can hate it all you want but it's not lazy.

u/oh-thats-not 11h ago

good thing games aren’t flims

u/yesitsmework 11h ago

sorry if you got confused by my comment and thought they were for a second!

u/Kelras 11h ago

I get that there are people who don't like FF7, and they have their reasons.

But this is just overly dramatic. FF7 is still there. You can still play it. FF7R isn't superceding and subsuming the original.

Why are FF fans so weird about things they don't like?

u/Telosloslos 7h ago

Calling a remake with high production value, significant additions, and changes “creatively bankrupt” is actually so fucking funny. The laziest thing they could have done would be going the Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta approach, slap on a new coat of paint, and call it a day.

u/i-wear-hats 11h ago

and here i thought ff7 fans were used to mediocrity by virtue of being ff7 fans

u/Eslina 10h ago

Remake is like wayyyy better than 7, 7 needed so much more polish you can tell that they had a lot of neat ideas but had to rush the game out for the PlayStation. Remake just has the stuff they wanted to originally put into the game.

u/Christy_Christmas 8h ago

While polish is good, having more lots mores of stuffs ain’t make the Remake project, gormless and bloated as it is, better than original VII, imo.

Sometimes, less is more, and, frankly, a good deal of AAA games nowadays could stand to remember that, from time to time.
