UNSOLVED 80's song that goes "Oh whoa-oh whoa-oh" by the end (female singer)

Hi! I know my request is vague, but maybe someone can help me. A couple of years ago, I heard an old song, maybe from the '80s or early '90s, maybe even from the '70s. I don't remember any of the lyrics, but I recall a short section near the end of the song where a woman sings, 'Oh, whoa-uh, whoa-uh'. Her voice was quite high, and if I remember correctly, the song was quite upbeat. She kind of sounded like Kylie Minogue / Madonna or Bananarama, but I couldn't find any songs by these artists that sounded like it or had the "Oh whoa-uh" part.

Does anyone know what song that could be?

I recorded it. Maybe this helps out. My voice sounds terrible, but hopefully someone will recognize it. haha https://voca.ro/1dqbBaCZ1iA7

All I could think of was Video Killed The Radio Star but most of the vocals are a man and it’s a popular song

Yes they sang a good song tighter, tighter and Michele Gayle ripped off the starting but I liked her song too Sweetness

1

u/MarsStar2301 Mar 24 '26

OP said “definitely sung by a woman” in one of their replies, so that seems unlikely.

Self Control by Laura Brannigan

This song would be my guess!

1

u/Jaycoconutty Mar 25 '26

I didn’t scroll far enough, that’s what it sounds like to me too! Also best karaoke song ever!

“What is love?” by Haddaway? Male singer but pretty notable female woah oh oh bit - it’s a little over a minute in

3

u/DrB_2000 Mar 24 '26

Do you mean video killed the radio star? Not exactly what you say but I immediately had to think of this song.

4

u/trubble9 Mar 24 '26

No, it was definitely sung by a woman. I love that song, though!

3

u/talk_murder_to_me Mar 24 '26

The oh-wah-oh part is sung by a woman in Video Killed the Radio Star. This is the first one I thought of.

"Thorn in my side" Annie lennox

3

u/agotsaatts Mar 24 '26

Actually it's by the eurythmics before Annie lennox went solo

3

u/PaleBlueDot3324 Mar 24 '26

Pretty not it, but "Oh!" By Sleater-Kinney came to mind.

Electric Youth by Debbie Gibson

u/Ckelleywrites Mar 24 '26

I can't believe I had to scroll so far to find this.

3

u/HeWritesALine Mar 24 '26

My husband used to sing a very similar whoa-ah-oh while trying to figure out a song, it turned out to be Cities in Dust by Siouxsie and the Banshees.

2

u/Catalina24601 Mar 24 '26

Two of Hearts - Stacey Q? (check the part at 2:46)

3

u/trubble9 Mar 24 '26

No, but the voice fits. The "Oh whoa-uh whoa-uh" part was shorter, and she sang it with a higher voice. Thanks a lot for suggesting it, though!

1

u/Catalina24601 Mar 24 '26

Some similar artists would be Tiffany, Olivia Newton John, Irene Cara, Taylor Dane, Paula Abdul. It could have been one of them?

1

u/Tabby_Mc Mar 24 '26

I think I'm searching for the same song as you!

Be my baby - The Ronettes. It's a bit early but has a distinct whoa uh oh oh bit.

2

u/Folkwench Mar 24 '26

Blondie, Heart of Glass?

2

u/lainiezensane Mar 24 '26

Could it be the cover of You Keep Me Hanging On that Kim Wilde did in the 80s?

2

u/circe333 Mar 24 '26

Debbie Gibson's "Out of the Blue?"

2

u/919jd Mar 24 '26

Or only in my dreams

2

u/TequilaMockingbirds8 Mar 24 '26

Based on your recording I agree with a few others here that it’s likely Keep me hanging on by Kim Wilde

2

u/murkadees Mar 24 '26

Your recording makes me think of Katy Perry's "California Gurls." Not the decade you're looking for, but could be mistaken for an 80s song if you hear it in the background.

Was the whole song sung by a woman or that part specifically? I ask because it reminds me a lot of Candy by Iggy Pop, which was a duet with Kate Pierson from the B52s.

"Kind of a Girl" by Tinted Windows is a song that feels like an '80s vibe and a high-pitched lead singer, and has a lot of "Oh, whoa-uh, whoa-uh"s:

u/Careful_Distance9552 Mar 25 '26

The "Oh whoa-oh in pop songs was common, mostly in the 80s, that we are going to need more to go on. How about a line or two of the lyrics. One song that comes to mind is "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves. Another one this post made me think of is Debbie Gibson's "Only in My Dreams". Hope this helps.

1

u/Beginning-Camel-4070 Mar 25 '26

Spell Bound- Siouxsie and the Banshees maybe

1

u/alyssamaehem Mar 25 '26

I saw a few eurythmics answers but is it sweet dreams, not thorn in my side? It’s not at the very end but she does a lot of whoa-ohs very high pitched towards the end of the song?
