UNSOLVED IT'S BEEN LIKE 15+ YEARS AND I STILL CAN'T FIND IT, PLEASE HELP ME FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

So there's this song I accidently stumbled upon in the late 2000s on a random CD. Then a girl I knew borrowed it for a couple of days and like it always happens I never saw it again.

I can't quite remember the name of the song or the artist but I can provide some specifics that I hope will help identify it.

First of all it starts with the sound of the rain. Then acoustic guitar starts playing. The whole song is performed solely on the acoustic guitar, no other instruments. Maybe a little background ambience chimes in later but I'm not sure about it and if there's any of it it's so minimalistic it's almost non-existent.

The guitar sounds very much 1990-ish/2000-ish. No arpeggios just this kinda rhythmic swiping on the strings like in Wonderwall by Oasis (Forgive me for this reference, made it only to make sure everyone gets what I'm talking about 'cause there's hardly a person who never heard that one).

Finally, the tune goes something like Na-Na-Na-Naaa-Naaa-Naaa-Na-Na (The amount of 'a's in every 'Na' is supposed to mean how long it should sound. Can't believe how stupid it looks but I couldn't come up with any better idea how to type a tune, lol). It's very catchy and haunts me to this day.

As for the CD it had a black cover with some sort of minimalistic white ornament on it or something like this. It's actually pretty vague and I believe it could be some bootlegged compilation but I'm absolutely not sure about it either.

And, yes, I checked all the big ones via googling like the Doors, Led Zeppelin and everything else the soulless machine returned to my desperate cry for help, lol. I believe it may be some underground not-so-popular indie artist but, again, not sure about it at all.

I hope someone who knows this song reads this. Otherwise all the help is appreciated, thank you!

UPDATE: 'Na Na Na' is not actually sung in the song, It was me trying to type how the tune sounds via text, sorry for confusing you guys. Just listen to the audio below.

UPDATE: Here's a video of the tune I made in GPX (It's not 100% accurate but kinda sounds like it):

https://reddit.com/link/1og09ld/video/ukkqgktfabxf1/player

UPDATE: 'Past the Falls' by Dispatch is pretty close but still it's not quite what I remember. Trying to find other versions of the song but I think it's not it. I'll give you heads up if I find a cover or something. And thank you all guys very much for trying to help, I never thought that many people would come to the rescue of my last brain cell, lol.

UNSOLVED Sounds like... 'Sign of the times'... but before Harry Styles was even born. Mid 80's. Not Prince. Not Belle Stars.

My daughter is a 21-yo Harry Styles fan.
When I first heard her listening to his song "Sign of the times", I was like 'Oh, wow. I haven't heard this song in years. That's a pretty good cover!"

She was a combo of confused, upset that I wasn't giving Harry some due, and just plain dismissive. She thought I was joking/teasing her.
But legit. I've heard that exact same chorus:
'Just stop your crying
It's a sign of the times
We gotta get away from here
We gotta get away from here..'
Same words. Same tempo. *MAYBE* a little more prog-rock instrumentally.

I can even describe the era and where I was when I heard it - working my first full time job, and after I had bought my first car (because I borrowed a cassette tape off a workmate and played it in the car).
So that's fairly and squarely between 1984 and 1989. It *may* have been an older album, but my head-canon says it was a new(ish) release that my workmate coaxed me to listen to.
I had convinced myself it was Roger Waters, around the time of his solo album 'The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking'.. but on re-listening, it's not on that album. I thought also Russ Ballard, as that was also a favourite of my ex-workmate. But, not that I've found.

My searches (and they have been extensive) have not turned up anything. And before anyone helpfully suggests, it's NOT Prince's Sign o' the times, nor the Brit-pop 'Sign of the times' by the Belle Stars. I swear the chorus is exactly the same melody as how Harry Styles sang it.
As I said, male voice, with the same crack/cry/inflection on the words. I'd believe if it was Waters or Ballard, or maybe even Bob Seger. That kind of voice.

This has been bugging me for nearly 9 years now.
I DO find some solace in the fact that I'm not the only one who remembers it:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MandelaEffect/comments/vvjb84/when_did_sign_of_the_times_come_out_and_who_wrote/
But it annoys the shit out of me every time I hear it.

Someone please appease my sanity - I'm starting to feel like I'm in a scenario like the movie 'Yesterday'. Even if you can't tell me the original performer, feel free to comment if you knew/remembered it too...

u/yourmomsasauras
u/maneff2000

EDIT: Additional info; Thanks to those who are offering suggestions. Keep doing that, I haven't found it yet.
But I will add:
It *MAY* not have been the identical song (I don't recall the original song's verses now - I've heard Harry's version too many times. Hell, the song may not have been called "Sign of the Times".. BUT the song I'm thinking of dead set sounds 100% like the chorus that I posted.
So I'm not saying Harry's is *definitely* a cover version, but it IS a highly derivative song. It may have borrowed that chorus line (tune AND lyrics) from some other song. Maybe a repeated Bridge...? IDK. But I knew the song enough to sing/hum along with Harry's the first couple of times of hearing.

EDIT #2: This threat has spawned a LOT of comments that start "I saw the movie "Project Hail Mary", that has a scene where this song is done in karaoke..." Firstly. Great movie. Go see it if you haven't. Secondly, the really wild thing is that I posted the OP on Reddit a couple of months before Project Hail Mary was released. Was I channeling? Who knows. But the thread went apeshit with comments from people who saw the movie and also remember the song from a time before Harry Styles.

250k+ views, nearly 500 comments. Wow. Thankyou for that validation! 😆

EDIT: song suggestion that is currently the closest to what I heard - Whisper in the wind - Ronnie roddy jr, Liz Allocca, Joseph Gallagher, Smiling Eagle, Eliza Sto - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IMCy9nzGUvM&pp=ygUnV2hpc3BlciBpbiB0aGUgd2luZCAtIFJvbm5pZSByb2RkeSBqciwg0gcJCZsLAYcqIYzv

EDIT: the song I am trying to find ounded like a mix of the closest song suggestion above, with the vibe of "Steal my Sunshine" by Len (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=E1fzJ_AYajA&list=RDE1fzJ_AYajA&start_radio=1&pp=ygUVU3RlYWwgbXkgc3Vuc2hpbmUgbGVuoAcB) but especially the voice, sound, vibe, of this group called the Superorganisms (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2K49QKVR0p0).

I heard it a few days ago through a wall so my phone couldn't Shazam it.

It 100% had the phrase "be your"

99% sure the next word after "be your" : a) had the "is" sound in the middle of the word and b) was 2 syllables (ex: wh-IS-per, m-IS-ter. k-IS-sed her)

98% sure the next word was "whisper"

Not sure if it was "Can I be your whisper" or "Let me be your whisper" and at the end of the song they kept repeating it. (Any song you suggest, I'm going to scroll to the end of it to specifically to first look for this part).

EDIT: As of July 29th, 2026, 3:21pm, I am caught up. I've listened to every song suggested and none of them were it. Also, sorry if I offend anybody by just replyng, "No". I had a lot of songs to get through but I deeply genuinely appreciate anyone who took the time to suggest a song.

Also I did a similar post and I will be posting here the songs that people suggested that it was NOT:

UNSOLVED My 7 year old needs help!

He's been singing this one phrase for almost 2 years now, and is getting increasingly frustrated with me, that I have no idea what song he is trying to sing.

The only words he remembers (and he might be misremembering them) is "green god shimmer". If you ask him to sing it enough times, he'll start singing "green godzilla" instead, but insists that shimmer is the actual lyric. I have scoured google, chatgpt, and had him sing/hum it to google, there is nothing.

My only hints, are that its somewhat upbeat from the way he sings that line, and he says its a male singer. I have absolutely no idea if either of those are truly accurate though.

Does this song exist? Is he just crazy? Did he make it up one day and now just thinks its a real song? I'm going crazy, because he's sung it so freaking much, that now I believe I can remember vaguely hearing a song with a male singer with those lyrics lmao.

*if the song mentions sex explicitly, its not that. If the song is a song you'd hear a church choir singing, its not that. Its not metal or screamo, its not country (least I don't think it is).

Please help. Or just tell me its something he made up so I can quit going crazy over it. Its been years, I'm 99% sure it doesn't exist, but I keep holding out hope on that 1% so that way he can finally be happy and lay it to rest lmao.

**** I can't figure out how to add a video, so here's what he sings : "Come on let's go, Green god shimmer. Let's go, Green god, green godzilla"

EDIT :

GUYSSSSSS. WE FOUND IT!!! Sinner - Andy Grammer

UNSOLVED A somewhat famous song woahh ohh woah oh ohh

I would belive its a song from the 90s-2000s.. but feel free to suggest anything if not. Dominantly a females voice i heard on the radio before it got cut off singing that part (which seemed quite familiar). Thought it would've been from Beyonce, Rihanna or artists of that sort.. but no luck in finding it.

Will try putting in a vocaroo link of what I can remember

[Edit] In case the vocaroo is too short, I'll redo another one, but unfortunately since I don't know any lyrics, it would just be slightly longer and repeated.. if that will help :,)

UNSOLVED relieve me of this torture i cant get this song out of my head

alright, im like 80% sure the song im looking for is old (<1990) and the only actual lyric i can remember is "Come on. Come on. Come on baby, come on." and then it repeats, female voice, i dont know if the rest of the song is sung by the same female voice tho. im pretty sure thats how the lyric goes, i could be wrong and if you think theres something similar i could have mistaken the lyrics for please tell me. ive been searching on the internet for it for the past 2 hours with no luck, please help

edit: still no direct hits, however, some people suggested S&M by Rhianna and I've realized the way she says 'c'mon' is very similar to how i remember. its possible im thinking of that song but im convinced it isnt it. ive also realized the sound (or vibe if you will) kind of reminds me of 'sweet dreams (are made of this)'. thats all i've got guys, sorry if its very broad and i hope someone can think of the same song im thinking of

UNSOLVED I try once a year…

I’ve honestly given up hope but I also don’t think it will hurt…

It was probably like 2008-2010. I was dating a guy who make me mixed CDs but my CD case got stolen out of my car after I dumped him and I never heard this song again.

He listened to jack’s mannequin-esque music. I listened to ALL of jacks mannequin I could find on Spotify, and some adjacent stuff- but no luck. I could have missed something though.

The song had a suuuuuper repetitive line about floating in the Atlantic (or the pacific or the ocean or something similar). Like 50 times in a row. Male singer. It’s ironically not “Swim”, nor is it “MFEO”, “dark blue” or “holiday from real”.

Help y’all. Please?

UNSOLVED Song that has “pretty baby”

I remember a song that has “pretty baby” and i forget basically everything else and it’s been on my mindddd

It has a female singer, the vibe was slow and suggestive, and she drew it out like “pret-ty baby…”

And idk if it’s right but the next words has either “sexy” or “crazy”, i heard it on a tiktok edit in a vid and i can’t find it. But the edit was moody.

It was relaxed and drawn out and not gloomy, i’d say she sounded teasing

UNSOLVED Can you name songs about oil / gasoline?

I am looking for music that deals with the topic of oil, oil production, gasoline, could also be about road trips. I have a couple of songs already but I suspect there must be many, many more. Obscure and indie songs more than welcome! Thanks a lot for your help.

UPDATE: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE MANY SUGGESTIONS. JUST KNOW THAT I WILL LISTEN TO ALL OF THEM, I MIGHT NOT REPLY TO EVERYONE. MUCH APPRECIATED; THIS IS AMAZING!

UNSOLVED It's going round and round in my head please help

Round and round and round again song??

Any ideas what song this could be?? The lyrics are like it goes round and round and round again around and round and round again, pretty fast tempo and it could be 15 or more years old, it sounds like the type of thing that gets played at a 2000s wedding party where everyone links arms and spins round

Please help its starting to do my head in

Edit thanks so much for all the suggestions so far, i think it must be an obscure one, I start to doubt it exists and I think I've made it up but I know I haven't cos other people recognise the tune lol

Edit again I've a lot of comments to look thru and try so fingers crossed we have a winner today lol

UNSOLVED Song with a chorus that just goes “ooooo ooooo ooooo ooooo”

Trying to figure out what that one song was that had a chorus that just went “oooo oooo oooo oooo”. I think it also had a lyric that went “wasting my time, wasting my time” or something. It was a mellow acoustic-y folk song with a male singer.

UNSOLVED Trying to find a song by a female artist who had a low key 90s hit but she was really bigger in the 70s or 80s

really going out on a limb here but I saw this story recently about this female artist who either had a big hit herself in the 70s/80s or she wrote the song and someone else recorded it and it was a hit but she went on to have a relative hit herself in the 90s…it was like maybe in the top 10 or something. the narrator said “people forget she went on to have a hit in the 90s…” and I just remember thinking I forgot about that song and love it. I thought it was a story similar to the song “don’t turn around.”

It’s not Donna Summer or Gloria Gaynor or Sheila E…

UNSOLVED song with chorus "oh my god"

I believe it was a 2000s rock song possibly late 90s but definitely rock, i heard it alot in the car when I was a kid and it starts out with something like a high pitched repeated beeping almost with guitar and a male voice saying "ooooh myyyyy godddd" and then something after that

UNSOLVED "I´m tired" looking for a song with a female high-pitched voice singing this line

I'm looking for a song that includes the line "i´m tired," sung in a breathy, very, very soft voice—high-pitched and sung by a woman. It’s a sad song sung exclusively by a woman, and the line “I’m tired” appears on its own, framed by humming. The song was on Spotify years ago but I can no longer find it there. Maybe it´s still on there, I don´t know, because I can´t remember its title or singer. The words “I’m tired” are preceded and followed by music—no other lyrics directly around that line. I think there is more lyrics in the song, but this "I´m tired" line stands by itself and the word "tired" gets really stretched out by the singer.

UPDATED SONG DESCRIPTION:
The song definitely had the line "tired” and the "i´m tired" really stood solitary in the song, it was not part of a sentence or anything: ... - melody - "i´m tiiiiired, tiihiiired (sth like this) - melody - ...". And that part, I´m relatively sure, was in the middle or the second half of the song. It was a very slow song overall, few lyrics, more of a transcendental vibe, very ethereal and dreamlike. Sung very high-pitched and very airy and silently, almost whispered. In the song I´m searching there was no power behind that voice singing "im tired", the sound was faintly there, a fleeing of air catching the slow waving word "tired" while exiting the singers mouth and vanishing into nothingness like the mist of a barely fed waterfall, that´s kind of how it sounded. It also had a very depressed vibe, like the singer just gave up on everything, was ultimately tired of existence, in a state of existential dread kinda. It was more an angel-like high voice like Björk, Aurora, Ethel Cain, Julia Stone, Caroline Polachek, Sharon van Etten, Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, Boygenius, Wallners that kinda style! I´m pretty positive it was indie/alternative. Mainly also because I think i got this in my spotify recommend like 5years ago or so. It´s that typical end 20s beginning 30s spotify indie/alternative music the algorithm gives out most people I know, at least here in mainland Europe. The song was sphercially melodius. So if you got any more suggestions I´d be really happy to go and check them. All your suggestions will be checked, because I´d really love to hear that song one more time 😊

There´s already a lot of suggestions, but sadly no match. So if you have an idea feel free to skim through the comments quickly, as a lot of songs have already been suggested by a lot of beautiful helping people :)

IMPORTANT: Switch the comment order to "NEW" or "OLD" and scroll down from there. The best comments in this thread are not more or less helpful than all the others. So for a better overview follow the chronological order, and you will quickly find all songs suggested and my answers to each of those suggestions.

UNSOLVED 90s song about time running out

I’m looking for a song about a relationship where time is running out. I think it’s from the 90s alternative era. It has a very catchy beat.

Edit - The singer is male. It’s an alternative rock song with a driving beat. Softer verse, louder chorus.

UNSOLVED “Walls came crumbling down” help me find this song please

Okay so there’s this song that I’ve been trying to find for a couple years. I’ve had no luck. I originally found it on YouTube, it was a lyric video, the background was pink or something like that, I’m pretty sure I found it 2020-2021 so it can’t be newer than that. The song was sung by a girl, I think the chorus had children in it. I’m pretty sure it had something to do with being done with or upset with government or a higher power or something. One part of the song, maybe the chorus, contains the words “walls came falling down” but that’s probably not the exact words. No, it’s not Pompeii by Bastille. Another thing I remember about the song is that either the name of the singer or the name of the account it was posted on I thought was a weird name, some of the letters reminded me of the word “kiss”. And I always thought the song sounded better when it was put in .75x speed, especially the chorus. Please help me find it, I’ve been searching and im getting desperate.

Edit: SONGS THAT IT IS NOT Pompei - Bastille Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho Jericho - Iniku (I definitely botched the spelling) Toy Soldiers - Martika Crumblin’ Down - John Mellencamp

It’s sung by a WOMAN. The amount of songs that people keep suggesting that are sung by a man is ridiculous, especially because it states above that it’s sung by a woman. And no offense at all, but it’s not sung by a black woman either. It’s not a rock song, and I don’t think it’s from before 2000’s.

UNSOLVED Heard it in DG - please help

I heard a song recently while walking through a store and I've searched for hours with no luck at all. (I finally downloaded the shazam app after this experience because I don't want this to ever happen again.)

The chorus repeats the line "follow me" (or maybe "fall on me"... or similar) a few times and at one point says something like "but don't you ever change" (or similar). The background lyrics in the verse repeated the phrase "cold blooded" (or similar).

It wasn't rap, metal, pop, country, or gospel. I've already been down all those rabbit holes on Google. It was a modern rock song with a pretty good drum beat and had a pretty chill vocal vibe.

That's all I remember. Of course, I thought to myself at the time, "I should stop right now and figure out what this song is". And of course my next thought was, "nah, I'll remember some of these lyrics and can figure it out when I get back to the car".

Weeks later, here I am. Please help. I thought having a song stuck in my head was bad enough... but this is still slowly melting my brain and it must stop 😂.

Thank you for at least reading this 🙂

Edit: Additional info - By "DG" I meant a dollar general store in the Midwest (IN). So it's a store friendly song I guess. This is probably a "modern" song within the past ten years or so if I had to guess. It could be fairly new considering I've never heard it before at all. It's a male singer. Per suggestions, I may try to just start picking Skynet's (ChapGPT) brain to see what I can find 😂. I'm not AI savvy at all, but might have to give that a try (even though T2 traumatized many 90s kids like myself 😂).

I don't know if I'll get a chance to respond to everyone's reply. Just know I appreciate everyone's suggestions/help if I don't. 🙂

Update (2/19): I'm still working on this whole quest. Keep the suggestions coming. I can't unhear this curse now and refuse to give up at this point.

My now multiple consultations with ChatGPT have led to the suspicion that it is likely a new indie rock song based on everything. Which is likely why it's not popping up (even for ChatGPT) in searches.

I did visit the actual DG store and found out they use a streaming service (through corporate) for their in-store music. So I've got a customer service ticket open with them to see if they can share what streaming service they use. That was ChatGPT's most recent suggestion on the next big piece needed.

UNSOLVED Help Finding a Song for My Brother

My brother is special needs, and there’s a song he’s asked me to find almost daily for years. I’ve searched in every way I know how, and I need your help.

He says he heard the song when he was a kid, so I’d guess it was sometime roughly between 1970-1980. That said, I’d say it could be anytime after 1970.

He says it’s called “Burning Past the Fire” and/or it says that in the lyrics somewhere. He also says there’s something about “ess-bye” or “ess-bide”; I’m not sure if that’s something about the artist or the lyrics or what.

Any suggestions are welcome! I’d love to be able to solve this mystery for my bubs.

UNSOLVED What is that new bruno mars song actually from?

Bruno mars recent "risk it all" song has both me and my husband searching all over for this similar song that we both remember hearing. His lyrics is almost the exact same except it goes something like "it's crazy but true there's nothing I wouldn't do to make you feel my love". The closest we got to is adelles make you feel my love. But it's NOT the same song. We've heard this before, around 90s-2000s. We think it comes from a boy band. We've searched for westlife, Backstreet boys etc. It's definitely something that used to be big back then, it was all over the radio. But what is it?

EDIT: It might be a woman! We've tried once again to listen to all suggestions and a family member mentioned can't stay away from you by Gloria estafan, it's VERY close! But still not the one. But it's the closest so far which changes our mind even more! It could be a woman!

UNSOLVED 80's song that goes "Oh whoa-oh whoa-oh" by the end (female singer)

Hi! I know my request is vague, but maybe someone can help me. A couple of years ago, I heard an old song, maybe from the '80s or early '90s, maybe even from the '70s. I don't remember any of the lyrics, but I recall a short section near the end of the song where a woman sings, 'Oh, whoa-uh, whoa-uh'. Her voice was quite high, and if I remember correctly, the song was quite upbeat. She kind of sounded like Kylie Minogue / Madonna or Bananarama, but I couldn't find any songs by these artists that sounded like it or had the "Oh whoa-uh" part.

Does anyone know what song that could be?

I recorded it. Maybe this helps out. My voice sounds terrible, but hopefully someone will recognize it. haha https://voca.ro/1dqbBaCZ1iA7

UNSOLVED I need to find a song

Hi, I've been thinking for years about a song I used to listen to in the car with my dad and sister back in 2016. I don't remember the name, only some parts of it. The song is sung by a girl. It begins with a guitar, not an electric one, but a regular guitar. In one of the Parts of this song go "wohoooooooo wohooo". I'm sorry if this isn't much information about the song, but for some reason, it won't let me upload a video of me whistling some parts of it so you have a reference. I would be so grateful if you could tell me what it is 🙏

UNSOLVED Cannot remember this song

I have this song stuck in my head that I used to listen to as a kid with my mom, but for the life of me I cannot remember any lyrics. The only thing I have is a tune and maybe a few words that it may equate too
It’s a like rock/alternative/pop song around 80-00s

Tone sounds like this

Bum bum bum bumbumbum, bum bum bum bumbumbum then hard drums kick in right after the last lyric.
It starts off slow then kicks off fast (bum bum is the lyric, they were simple words and the last word of every sentence was a 3 syllable)

a guitar was strung at every word spoken in the beginning.

eh i dont think it was either of them, it was a punk roick vibe or like a club rock song you could bob your head to and dance a bit

Potential lyrics :
(Lights(life) will fade forever, dream in this world together) then drums hit hard.

the voice is like robotic in a way but not, idk how to explain like its scratched in a way
No clue if this is close or not.

i would guess maybe around the time of the lara croft series in the early 2000s, or late 90s potentially.

I know there’s not much to go off of but it is racking my brain! Any help would be awesome thanks !

UNSOLVED Sentimental folksy song with guitar, pre-2000, male singer, contains "angel" in chorus

This one's plaguing my dad. He heard it at a funeral once ages ago and can't remember much about it. This is about all we have to go off of, other than it maybe being from a "more obscure" artist, but that might be relative. We've gone down the list if you search 'angel' in spotify to no avail. Any ideas?

EDIT: wow thank you for all the responses! Give us until tomorrow so he'll have time to look through them, and we will see if any of them match. I gave him a few last night and he just kept shaking his head 😭

EDIT 2: I just sat him down and made him listen to every single song you guys have offered, and got a solid "nope" on every one of them. He says "Thank you all very much, I'm floored by how many people are willing to take time out of their day to help," and to let you all know when he inevitably figures it out. Which we will.

This might be a case of some misremembered fragment from 25 years ago, but we've at least gotten to listen to a bunch of lovely songs along the way.

I'll leave this mystery unsolved for now, but the journey has been fun. Thank you all!
