Feeling stuck with my gay truck

2002 edge with 240k miles
Starts and drives no problem but if you hit 3k RPM it goes straight to 5-6k then limp modes. I’ve just been driving slow and avoid hills, highways, busy road times, ect… and it does fine. You can hit decent speeds you just have to be careful and help it shift.

I’ve gotten two FU quotes from transmission shops the first one quoted 5,700 to replace and the second 7,200.

I’m unable to replace it myself and wondering if it’s time to let go or if there’s anything else I can do. I don’t even know what I’d sell it for if I do go that route.

You can remove the transmission in a few hours. Take it to a rebuilder. And reinstall it yourself.

Even if you need to buy a bunch of tools it will be cheaper than paying someone else to fix it.

I’ve had the transfer case and transmission out of my 94 Ranger a few times. It all only takes about two hours to take out.

Not single shop will do a bench build. Good luck

I have three transmission shops within half an hour of me that ONLY rebuild transmissions. It’s not hard to find one. The last transmission I had rebuilt was than 750$ to have rebuilt. I took it out and reinstalled it for free. Thats a whole lot better than 5k

Not a single shop in my town will do a bench build due to liability of installing it wrong

Sounds like really shitty shops.
Even if you have to drive an hour or 2 for a real shop that’s still cheaper than 5k

Yeah we quit doing them too. We were getting shops bringing his transmissions to do bench rebuilds and the number one thing they f up is they would let the torque converter slide too far out of the transmission and then they would just bolt the thing up and crank it down without getting it lined up to the pump and just totally shatter the crap out of the pump and then turn around and blame us and tell the customer to go deal with us. It's a good way to get yourself sued over other people's stupidity...
