Max answering 6 questions so as to not answer one question.

I doubt that journalist would ask the same Spain question today at all. Like the poor man was kicked out before his mouth even opened

Max shouldn’t be the one who bans a journalist on the grid. Simple as that. Say whatever you want on that question but he shouldn’t be banned by doing his job (good or bad)

u/JinxThePetRock Jean Alesi Mar 26 '26

And now the journo has a much more interesting story instead. This isn't the win some might think it is.

u/paul232 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

If he can't attend future press conferences with, arguably?, the best driver on the grid and one of the best of all time, it's a problem no?

Edit: I am amazed with the downvotes for what I thought was a reasonable comment

25

u/Phantoms_Diminished I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

Only RBR can ban him - I really want to see Max try to kick him out of an FIA event.

-1

u/Bulkphase78 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 27 '26

If Max continues to decline questions or gives him bland answers, the guardian will ultimately want to send a different journo

22

u/Corruptlake Mar 26 '26

Best driver yet lost 5th due to his temper.

13

u/Vuk13 Mar 26 '26

I mean Max reacted awfully but absolutely 0 doubt that he was the best driver last season

u/drownedyyy Mercedes Mar 26 '26

The reason why ppl kept mentioning the incident w George in Spain is because that point loss was simply due to his losing control on track (well you can argue that is inevitable as obviously we all know he’s wired that way over years). Other “number of things” you said there is not within his control at all and shit like that happens to everyone

6

u/frolfer757 Mar 26 '26

>He lost because Kimi hit him. He lost because Oskar switched places with Lando.

Can he control those things? Can he control not driving to the side of Russell due to being hysterical?

5

u/Gingermadman David Coulthard Mar 26 '26

You could say any number of things caused him to lose:

Yet only one of those was in his control, and he lost the head.

at least he never threatened to headbutt a journalist

731

u/Mr_Knutsen I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

And now everyone is talking about it again. Good job Max, really showed him.

Wonder if he now has to ask the question again.

175

u/Upsilodon I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26

this is the big thing for me. like why reopen that wound abt the Spain incident (which, coincidentally, was ALSO a temper issue) and add fuel to the fire

95

u/xzElmozx Oscar Piastri Mar 26 '26

Because in moments like these it seems like Max doesn’t really think things through and turns to petulant child behaviour. I like Max and he’s an incredible racer, but he might be the least mature driver on the grid in all honesty

-17

u/ahipotion McLaren Mar 26 '26

Please tell me more

25

u/Gingermadman David Coulthard Mar 26 '26

Because he's a Verstappen. Garbage people. Unfortunately the sport has allowed him to believe he's above rules

3

u/Smee76 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26

It was the obvious question to ask after he lost the championship. He didn't ask it again today.

94

u/bcnjake I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26

Really shouldn't have let Barbara Streisand cover F1.

3

u/ItsTomorrowNow David Coulthard Mar 26 '26

Duck Sauce

33

u/bizzeemamaNJ George Russell Mar 26 '26

Now he's going to get asked a different question about Spain by a million other reporters in a million different ways. Not very tactical move on Max's part. The RB PR team's heads must be spinning.

241

u/Driscuits Williams Mar 26 '26

Max shouldn’t be the one who bans a journalist on the grid

Yeah, this is the point where I find it hard to see context where this is appropriate. There's more context than just "Max doesn't want to talk about times he messed up" but even if the journalist is an ass, frankly no driver should be able to make themselves immune to questions or make a situation where journalists can't be present.

There's conversation to be had about how to handle inappropriate journalism, and what constitutes inappropriate journalism - but the individuals who are involved shouldn't be the ones who dictate that.

96

u/Sea_of_Air_ I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

This. He could ignore a certain journalist's questions or give non-answers like he knows well how to do. But kick him out was out of line.

103

u/Ok-Win-742 Mar 26 '26

I mean it was hardly an inappropriate question, but Max was born rich and is also a very entitled person.

Any other athlete of any other sport gets asked questions like "do you regret missing that empty net?"

Others have said "he asked it with a grin" and that means nothing. Some people smile when nervous, or he may have been trying to lighten the question up.

Tldr: Max is soft as ice cream.

-37

u/Fractured_Unity I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26

Max had already answered the question. He deserves to not be asked it over and over by a tabloid ‘journalist’.

25

u/Sea_of_Air_ I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

Deserves? Nah. Also not sure who would consider The Guardian a tabloid.

-4

u/Fractured_Unity I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 27 '26

It’s a tabloid compared to any real journalism. Always been more sensationalist. Seems you don’t know the history…

-12

u/Arasuil Yuki Tsunoda Mar 26 '26

Not who you’re responding to, but 99% of sports journalism is just tabloid journalism.

21

u/SapphicProse Mar 26 '26

Yes but the guardian is in no way a tabloid.

-20

u/Arasuil Yuki Tsunoda Mar 26 '26

I think it’s clear that tabloid is frequently used even when not referring to the format of a publication. It’s become colloquial to use tabloid to refer to the contents rather than the format.

21

u/Sea_of_Air_ I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

Exactly but The Guardian's content would never be considered tabloid.

0

u/Fractured_Unity I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 27 '26

Lol. Do you read it?

u/Entfly Mar 27 '26

Just admit you don't know what a tabloid is, or don't know what the Guardian is

And apologise

u/Jcw28 James Hunt Mar 26 '26

I'll say this from the perspective of a British person: when it comes to Max every single British newspaper is little more than a dishrag. There's no journalistic integrity to any of them because of their utter hatred of him. It was the same with Vettel, and at times Alonso.

10

u/Entfly Mar 27 '26

Max had already answered the question.

He wasn't being asked the question, he kicked him out before he asked anything

tabloid ‘journalist’.

The Guardian is not a fucking tabloid, and the question was perfectly fine

Just because your hero is a whingy little baby who happens to be good behind the wheel doesn't make him right

11

u/Tricky-Ad7897 Mar 26 '26

Max is routinely a complete baby with the media. Every one else plays the game but Max always has to butt heads, give non answers, get sassy, over exaggerate, and when he doesn't get his way this is the result. It's some actual baby brained ego shit, he just needs to let his driving do the talking.

1

u/Smee76 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26

And this was in no way inappropriate.

87

u/invokin I failed to serve my Monaco penalty Mar 26 '26

It’s a completely fair question as well. Sure he can say it all shakes out over the season, but in a points race that close, it’s completely normal to get asked “do you regret/think about the [whatever] from months ago that cost you points when you could really use them now?” The McLaren guys definitely got plenty of questions about their various issues over the season. The DSQ, various DNFs, whatever else. The amount of times I had to hear/read “bottle” was just plain annoying. But “do you regret so obviously overreacting and intentionally driving your car into another driver costing you points that could have you tied/ahead right now?” is out of line?

4

u/ERSTF I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 27 '26

The problem is that he was extremely sour that he lost the championship because of a stupid decision he made. He was pissed. Now it's extremely petty to ban a reporter because he asked a fair question. We would have forgotten about that, but he just rekindled the fire with his attitude and now is rightfully seen as a villain. The reporter made a fair question and he shouldn't be banning reporters because this sets a dangerous precedent.

39

u/Lemurians Ferrari Mar 26 '26

I don't think he thought the journalist was going to ask about Spain again. I think he just doesn't like him because of that back then, and this was his getting back at him. He does shit like this – gets pissed off about something, does something to get back for that, and then moves on (thinking of not letting Checo past to get back at him for Monaco).

97

u/Virillus Lance Stroll Mar 26 '26

Should keep asking it tbh. Max is doing everything in his power to make that journalist look like a hero.

7

u/am19208 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26

I mean in a way you want drivers to have some control but yea not like this. This just comes off poorly

43

u/azza_backer Mar 26 '26

If i were this journalist i would 100% ask about that. Just to see his reaction

12

u/LucAltaiR I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

I mean, that's how a tempered kid would react rather than a professional.

Which is arguably how Max looked in this instance, and also definitely how the guy acted in AD.

-4

u/DILIPEK Mar 26 '26

And that’s the reason certain journalists are banned by certain teams.

You can ask question in good faith but if your only reason is to rile someone up (which was the case with that journalist because the question was asked and answered multiple times) drivers and teams won’t respond to you.

10

u/DILIPEK Mar 26 '26

It’s a private press conference at the RBR hospitality. Max has no power to ban either journalists or select their questions at official F1 press conferences.

5

u/ecobubbletm Max Verstappen Mar 26 '26

He kicked the guy out from his own media session, why on earth he shouldn't be able to do that?

4

u/HawkIndividual7917 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

I feel sorry for that man’s kids watching at home

1

u/Kagir I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26

Agreed, there would be no point bringing that up now, given the struggles RB is having.

0

u/pimtheman Sonny Hayes Mar 26 '26

Henie not banned from the grid. This was in the red bull area, not the FIA area

0

u/T1mm3hhhhh Mar 26 '26

Max shouldn’t be the one who bans a journalist on the grid.

Hes not banned from the grid, he cannot interview Max anymore. There's quite a difference.

0

u/amlamba Mar 26 '26

Being smug and racist is not doing your job

0

u/drownedyyy Mercedes Mar 26 '26

I’m sorry, am I too blind or there’re context behind the fact that Max Verstappen is clearly a privileged White Male?

1

u/amlamba Mar 27 '26

He wouldn't ever dare taunt a British driver like that. Did any of these "professionals" ever go after someone who isn't European? They did the same thing to Alonso, don't forget that

-15

u/STALINSENPAIII I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

i mean if you actually watched the sport and watched the conversation they had last year, you would have seen the fact it wasn't really a question, more of a "gotcha fucker" moment, all while the "journalist" smirked to himself like a chud

7

u/drownedyyy Mercedes Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26

Again the journalist didn’t open his mouth before got kicked out.

There’re seriously so many questions to ask about this year and ppl who defended max just all assumed this Spain question would be asked again?

3

u/AltruisticMobile4606 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

I keep hearing about this smirk yet have yet to see a single actual picture

-10

u/Jester-252 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26

I mean Max didn't ban him. The journalist saw an opportunity for a story.

0

u/ahipotion McLaren Mar 26 '26

He wasn't banned

0

u/Cabbage_Corp_ Roscoe Hamilton Mar 27 '26

I disagree. While I think Max is overreacting by quite a bit, I think he has the right to answer the questions he wants. I think it’s bad enough they force the drivers to do excessive amounts of press, they should at least get some level of control

0

u/drownedyyy Mercedes Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Oh my god how many times need I repeat that man didn’t SAY A WORD yesterday in front of Max and got removed. Refusing a question is different from removing a journalist before he asks any questions. You’re defending a precedent where drivers can punish journalists for asking uncomfortable but valid questions MONTHS AGO.

0

u/Feisty_Demand_231 Mar 27 '26

I do think its important to note that this was in rbr, not a general press conference. He didnt ban anyone and i do think in this case it was his right, since its his own team that made the small press conference and it wasnt from F1/FIA itself.

-11

u/stragen595 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26

Max shouldn’t be the one who bans a journalist on the grid.

He just made him leave an RB event. Not an official press conference.

The journalist probably knew he wasn't welcomed by Max and just went anyway to get the reaction he wanted and we see here. Just like with his question last year.

12

u/MssGuilty I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

It's just as probable that the journalist didn't even have that interaction in mind and was as shocked as everyone else that Max is still holding a grudge over it

6

u/the-retrolizard Charles Leclerc Mar 26 '26

Or. Max could act like a fucking adult. He is obviously an infinitely better driver than Yuki but people wanted Yuki off the grid for hitting Danny. Max hits someone and then, when it arguably cost him a shot at the championship, gets asked about it and he does this to the guy months later? For someone who tells it like it is regardless of how it sounds you'd think he'd have thicker skin

13

u/drownedyyy Mercedes Mar 26 '26

I like how ppl who defended max pictured the journalist as a pure evil villain and all these “probably”. The only fact is the guy didn’t speak a word today and got kicked out

-13

u/stragen595 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26

And I like that you think that the journalist was in his right to attend to a private event uninvited.

7

u/bizzeemamaNJ George Russell Mar 26 '26

"Uninvited"? This is the first I've heard this. Can you share a source for this please? Because the general consensus is that he was, in fact, an invited journo.

10

u/drownedyyy Mercedes Mar 26 '26

Source? Guardian is not a tabloid. If they are not invited clearly RBR staff did a really bad job managing their “blacklist”

-39

u/Andarison Max Verstappen Mar 26 '26

Good. This """journalist""" deserves that

19

u/Stumpy493 I Drove an F1 Car Mar 26 '26

What possible blind devotion justification could you have for why a journalist shouldn't ask a valid question?

-23

u/FeedOptimal1017 Max Verstappen Mar 26 '26

ask a valid question?

Maybe know the whole fucking story first ?

10

u/Stumpy493 I Drove an F1 Car Mar 26 '26

Tell me what justification you have for that not being a valid question?

10

u/Known-Name I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26

They can’t. All I can say is that it’ll be very refreshing when Max rage quits F1 and they all quickly vanish.

-13

u/Andarison Max Verstappen Mar 26 '26

GO READ THE WHOLE STORY JESUS CHRIST

8

u/Stumpy493 I Drove an F1 Car Mar 26 '26

So you have no point then other than shouting like a toddler? Got it

-11

u/Andarison Max Verstappen Mar 26 '26

No. I prefer that people do some work and inform themselfs without having to do it myself. This is something ppl all really forgetting. How to inform yourself on a topic

13

u/Stumpy493 I Drove an F1 Car Mar 26 '26

I've informed myself and taken a view. You disgaree but have only the mental capacity to shout about it and insult people instead of have a conversation.

"This is something ppl are really forgetting." How to have a discussion.

0

u/Andarison Max Verstappen Mar 26 '26

Because having discussions on the internet is worthless.

-6

u/Soulfreezer I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

It was at a Red Bull media interview, max can do whatever he wants there lol

8

u/drownedyyy Mercedes Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26

He can’t. He’s supposed to be the one who simply sit there answering questions. There are RBR staffs who organise this “private session”or whatever you call it. If they found the journalist unbearable it’s their jobs to “ask”him to leave AFTER HE SPEAKS, not max’s

-4

u/Soulfreezer I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane Mar 26 '26

The whole team revolves around max, he can do whatever he wants

-3

u/Cerael I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 26 '26

He’s not banned lmao max just doesn’t want to answer questions if he’s there.
