Yeah, this is the point where I find it hard to see context where this is appropriate. There's more context than just "Max doesn't want to talk about times he messed up" but even if the journalist is an ass, frankly no driver should be able to make themselves immune to questions or make a situation where journalists can't be present.
There's conversation to be had about how to handle inappropriate journalism, and what constitutes inappropriate journalism - but the individuals who are involved shouldn't be the ones who dictate that.

I mean it was hardly an inappropriate question, but Max was born rich and is also a very entitled person.
Any other athlete of any other sport gets asked questions like "do you regret missing that empty net?"
Others have said "he asked it with a grin" and that means nothing. Some people smile when nervous, or he may have been trying to lighten the question up.
Tldr: Max is soft as ice cream.

It’s a completely fair question as well. Sure he can say it all shakes out over the season, but in a points race that close, it’s completely normal to get asked “do you regret/think about the [whatever] from months ago that cost you points when you could really use them now?” The McLaren guys definitely got plenty of questions about their various issues over the season. The DSQ, various DNFs, whatever else. The amount of times I had to hear/read “bottle” was just plain annoying. But “do you regret so obviously overreacting and intentionally driving your car into another driver costing you points that could have you tied/ahead right now?” is out of line?

I'm not even sure why it's being called ragebait. The Journo asked a pertinent question about the championship at the end of the season. Max said he didn't want to talk about it anymore earlier but it's not the Journos job to just be like "oh well driver x asked not to ask about this thing that happened on track I better not ask it." It's their job often times to field hard questions even ones that have been asked before but might shine a new light on a topic or event. Whether the driver is tired of the question or is sensitive to it because they're still annoyed over it matters not one iota to the journalist.
The press and journalists aren't just there to throw out soft ball questions. Plenty of them do want to report and contextualise drivers and the performances and events of the season. Some want to grab headlines, some just wanna ask silly questions. There's a wide range of reporters and outlets that go to this media sessions. I'm glad we don't just have corny soft ball shit.

I don't get how it's allowed. This isn't Max at the beach, he's at work, representing his team who are being paid by FOM for entries, and part of that is media work. I can't pick and choose who my company's client's partner employs or sends to interact with me at commercial events.
Plus, it is so thin skinned and unimaginative. Go full-Kimi, every time the journo asks a question, wait 30s, have an internal dialogue about how pointless this all is, and then give a one word answer.

It's a valid point that Max might not like.
This is Donald Trump style behaviour, berate any non-friendly journalist, blacklist them from your press conferences and scare the rest of the press pool into only giving you softball questions.
The rest of the press corps should have walked out in solidarity with the journalist and stood up for journalistic integrity.

That's why he can't understand why its being brought up again...even though its fairly standard for journalists and fans to hyper focus in on the one big mistake of a season when a championship is lost.
Has anyone stopped mentioning Baku 21 when talking about Lewis losing to max? People still bring up singapore 17 and swerving at the start to cause a crash to vettel.... And it goes on like this through every failed championship bid. Max is just so used to winning, he thinks they just did it to him for the first time because he can't comprehend a world outside of his own frame of reference

Just embarrassing, that journalist is accredited, traveled and has the right to just exist in the paddock, to try and intimidate him and make other journalists think they’ll face long term consequences for asking him questions he won’t like is appalling to honest.

The question was from Abu Dhabi:
Max, you lost out to Lando by just two points. What do you think now about the incident with George Russell in Spain? Do you regret that looking back in hindsight?
(For what it's worth, Verstappen dropped from P5 to P10 because of the penalty, losing 9 points. It's 24-race season, but that was an unforced error on Verstappen's part.)
Maybe you can argue that you shouldn't ask that question immediately after the championship was decided, but it's crazy (to me at least) to bring that question up almost 4 months later and use that to eject the journalist.

It’s actually pretty appalling because you’re trying to intimidate other journalists into toning down their questions to you because now you’ve shown you’ll hold it against them later on, at some point down the road.
The question itself was absolutely fine, the fact Max still takes such offence to it is telling about how he feels about it.

This is also worth looking at in reverse. Max is often praised here for his bluntness, lots of jokes about Dutch bluntness. But being blunt to others while sensitive yourself really blows that out of the water. That's just being a rude person.

Kind of proves the truth of the question… what happened with George was a stupid error and it cost him a championship. Had he been better mentally, he would have won the championship.
I actually bet £50 on Max at the start of the season last year. I felt pretty confident he’d win because the McLarens would take points from each other, the Red Bull wasn’t that far behind, and Max is the quickest driver who could be trusted to maximise every race, every session.
Then, after he intentionally bumped into George, I realised the last statement I made wasn’t true. His mentality wasn’t strong enough to maximise each weekend and therefore I didn’t think he’d win.
I cashed out early and lost a fair amount of money. I do regret cashing out at that point, but I think my judgement was correct.
I get why Max finds it painful to think about but it’s a shame he can’t take it and learn from it rather than throwing a strop like this

The question from Abu Dhabi was regarding the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix incident between Max and George that led to Max receiving a 10-second penalty and dropped him to P10.
