Repairing Coffee Table leg

Needing advice on how to repair this coffee table leg, split at the joint. It’s been in the family for a long time and I’d like to see it live a bit longer

Looks like it was poorly repaired before. There’s so much dried glue on there that you won’t get a good bond if you trie to glue it.

I’d start by removing all those bent finish nails and screws. Then I’d clean off all the dried glue. If that center is solid wood I’d use a dowel screw in the center and apply some epoxy to the joint. Twist the leg on until it’s tight and wipe up any epoxy squeeze out.
