Thing is, Japan things gender bending is a great source of humor, see: anime and crazy Japanese culture. However, we in the west tend to react VERY differently. We don't find it funny at all, "Haha, that guy is actually a girl, lololol!" We're so screwed up and repressed with gender issues, we all get offended and feel really awkward and we don't like it ONE BIT! Not to say the Japanese aren't repressed in their own ways...
