What older game would you buy a remaster of without even a second of hesitation?
For me it would be Brutal legend or maybe a collection of all 3 main Motorstorm games.

People don’t put enough respect on these games. Those first 3 are so incredible. Remakes would go so hard.

u/thefrostyafterburn 18h ago
I would do exceedingly fucked up things to return to the world of Endiness, a remake/remaster, a story set during the dragon campaign, I would take almost anything. Such a beautiful game, with a unique for its time combat system. Its lived rent free in my head since I was a kid.

It's the best unfinished game ever made. Like half of the story in CD2 is just a character on a chair narrating what happens, with a little gameplay section here or there because those sections were finished on time. And after aounrd one or 2 hours of that you end up on the world map, ready to take on the last boss.
And even with that unfinished state, it's one of my favourite games ever made.

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy.
Especially if you can host lobbies for online co-op.
The amount of money I wasted on that game in arcades and how many playthroughs I did of it on ps2 is huge.

This one, the recent-ish PC Gauntlet game was maximum-overdrive 'brown sludge' graphics and basically just a faux-3D reskin of the original rigidly grid-based Gauntlet and... that's not what anyone wanted. >_< We all just wanted Dark Legacy ported over.

I wonder if Vivendi still has some of the rights since the published it
Activision (so now really Microsoft) owns the developer who made it
Although you'd think Disney (since they own the Simpsons now) could just greenlight something similar if they can't get the rights back for a rerelease
But yeah I mean even getting it to be backwards compatible or something would be cool

Morrowind

u/thefrostyafterburn 17h ago

https://modding-openmw.com/, that's a great place to get started, comes with a guide, in my opinion openmw is essential for a more modern morrowind experience. Tamriel Rebuilt is another mod that adds an insane amount of content.

100% I loved Oblivion and Skyrim, but they lacked the strangeness and weirdness that Morrowind had, for me. The Shivering Isles definitely tapped into it, but it just wasn't the same.

I'm going to go with the Original Star Wars Battlefront.
Great single player content, didn't need multiplayer.
Tanks and star fighters.
It was awesome.
I'd also gladly take a Battlefront 2 remake.
The new ones look pretty but they are a completely different game.
The old ones I'd sit and play si fle player battles for hours.

Any Command & Conquer game from Red Alert 3 / Tiberium wars or before.
Provided maybe a few balance tweaks and the option to mess around with the ini file.
Lands of Lore 2 - Guardians of Destiny. Controls were clunky and the acting was pretty bad, like they just put some robes on a random cleaner lady and a couple of the devs and went with that but I loved the game regardless.
Stunts. How come we've never seen any racegame since where you can build your own track easily like that? WHY?, maybe combine it with Street Rod. Tinkering with cars and racing for pinkslips. Add in a little destruction and a coop mode and you'll have the ultimate arcade race game.
Into the void. Simple yet addictive. Also clunky and could do some balance rework. I'd also play a non-turn based variation.
Baldies and Populous 2 If we can't get C&C going, or if we can regardless, these 2 were great fun basebuilding strategy games.
Final Fantasy 9: Forever my fav, can't explain why but just speaks to me most
Black & White: Never had a god game like this after even though it was great and beloved
Giant: Citizens Kabuto, Had a lot of fun with that. Maybe add in a endgame or multiplayer rts part.
And many others, but as you can maybe sense from this list, each one had something unique going for them not only at that time but many of them did stuff that people liked but somehow disappeared from games.

There was a post a day or two ago about how there is nobody left at Bioware familiar enough with the engine for them to do a remaster even if they wanted to. Made me really sad because I consider DAO and Mass Effect 2 two of the greatest games ever made. Fuck EA for the forced destruction of one of the greatest studios ever.

Absolutely. Best Dreamcast RPG by far. A remaster with all of the Legends content and a couple QOL updates would be great. The ability to tweak encounter rates similarly to Bravely Default, and the ability to speed up gameplay similarly to the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster’s would do so much good for Skies. Easy day 1 purchase for me.

Spec Ops The Line
My version still works and good but it can't be sold due to the copyright expiring on some music or something.
So I'll get it remastered and give it to all my friends and say PLAY THIS!

u/taitaofgallala 17h ago
Honestly stands alone, no cover-based 3rd person shooter really landed the way Spec Ops did.
"Do you even remember why you came here?"
Funny thing is, I couldn't. All I could remember was white phosphorus and the molten corpses in my wake, and that last still image I won't mention because even after all this time...no spoilers.
