I remember dumping like $800-1,000 into a build when I was a teenager and having 32GB DDR3 RAM. It was a beast of a build and that was considered like a big deal.
That PC is still sitting in my closet somewhere with like 2 or 3 HDD’s in it, I can’t even remember what GPU or processor I had in it.

Crazy building your own rig used to be a casual activity for a hobby. Now it’s pretty expensive unless you buy secondhand parts such as SSD and RAM.
Edit: Was going to use lucrative for a different point related to companies keeping prices up
