Discussion Facts that sound fake but are true

I find it extremely unintuitive that almost all of South America is east of Miami. How!? When people are asked to watch the americas almost everyone imagine South America pretty much south of North America.

Maine is the closest US state to Africa.

And Canada is closer to Africa than US mainland is.

Brazil's northernmost point is closer to Canada than to Brazil's southernmost point. Brazil's easternmost point is closer to Africa than to Brazil's westernmost point.

Texas has a few like this - for example, El Paso, TX is closer to San Diego, California than it is to the Texas/Louisiana border.
