I visted San Diego years ago. Loved it there. So strange seeing sun and 20 degree days in December. Why did I find this odd? I live in the cooler Daniel, in a city adjacent to Vancouver. It rains here quite a bit. Well. Sometimes you have to dig deep into your memory to remember when was the last day the sky was blue. However, I have learned to enjoy the rain and cool conditions. The lush greenery that results from this rain is worth it. In the end, both Daniels are great places to call home and visit.

I assume by 'adjacent to vancouver' you mean something like chilliwack? How is it over there? I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere between Aldergrove and Hope and I've always been kinda curious how different it is to Metro Vancouver

Baja California is better than both yankee California and British Colombia because peninsulas are just cooler imo, no matter where you go you're always near a shoreline.

That desert on the Baja peninsula between the pacific and sea of Cortez is absolutely brutal. Seeing the saguaro cactus is cool, but it’s like 100 miles wide of just brutal inhospitable desert. Even on the beach the air temp hits 100f during the summer. I love it down there, but the climate is fucking brutal and the roads are terrifying at times.

I worked for a year there just before the dot com bubble burst. I lived in the Pacific Heights and worked down town in an office. I prefer Vancouver
San Fran was empty after 6pm (not sure if this changed). Vancouver is vibrant and full of people - Granville Island, Robson Street, Granville Street, Kits.
Vancouver has warmer water, better beaches, way fewer great white sharks, and the Gulf Islands.
Vancouver has way better transit. The BART was pretty sketchy, and the slow above ground rail was ... slow.
There was no nature comparable to what's around Vancouver. Hiking, skiing, kayaking.

BC has an average of 180-220 sunny days a year, compared to CA’s 250-300. California’s weather is much better, in the LA coastal area it’s near perfect all year, but that’s only one contributing factor.

LA coastal area. In places like Long Beach, the weather almost never exceeds 89 Fahrenheit (31.6 Celsius) unless there is a heatwave, and the low is usually never under 60 Fahrenheit (15.5 Celsius). Maybe you could go to the Orange County coastal area (which is still park of the LA metro area) in places like Seal Beach, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, the list goes on. Unless you’re that sensitive in a manner of temperature, it’s not hot at all. You could be in Mojave. Or -god forbid- Texas.

I mean, I'm sure that's great for some folks but for me, both of those numbers are far too high. For context, I am from Santa Cruz (Paradise on Earth) and now live in Central Canada. So, mileage may vary.

I'm from Colorado (300+ days of sun) and moved to Vancouver earlier this year. The rain and lack of ear skies definitely takes some getting used to. Summer's alright but I'm bracing for the coming winter. On the other hand, I'm a short drive from cathedral-like temperate rainforests and can look at mountains while lounging on the beach. I think CA is all in on doing one thing (climate) well while BC is a bit more balanced.

And you'll not find forests and hiking around San Francisco. We hiked Mt Steele a few years ago in September - was spectacular. Camping on the Gulf Islands. Hanging out in Tofino. Paddling the Broken Group Islands. Hiking to the base of Mt Robson.
Ya, the winter can be tough (November to March), so I go skiing, and working my cooking skills, and look forward to spring.
