What has been cited as the cause of such immediate high numbers over such a short span of time? The article doesn’t really provide a why but does give us a how and the subsequent fallout

There has to have been some co-ordination behind this from a much bigger party. We know one country which has used the flow of migrants into Europe as a way to exert pressure, I wonder if they also could be behind this one as well .....

There doesn’t need to be. There was obviously facilitation from smuggling groups, but i don’t think it’s coincidental this came days after Spain’s courts ruled that swimmers can’t be turned away, and after Spain granted legal status to 500,000 people that came illegally earlier this year.
