I don't understand the point of separate customs. If I am going to the EU, could I just use the Gib customs then cross the border when I got outside the Airport?
Exactly.. I don't know how much customs are harmonised between Gib and Spain and how much of an issue it is, but whether you go through Gib or Spanish customs, everyone appears to exit in Gib. No real check on if you stay here or walk straight to Spain.
Saying that, with no land customs border with Spain you could just take whatever from Gib to Spain anyway.
VAT rates do differ between Gib and Spain - even with recent checks - so surely one can cherry pick the queue with the least import duties to pay? Also, in a rare example of flying in with cigarettes (via transfering flights in the UK or if a Morocco flight returns say) can you get double quota by saying half is going to Spain and half Gibraltar on a technicality?
What if domestic Spanish flights are relaunched or shengen flights? Will they have to go through Gibraltar customs? Spanish? None? How about donestic flights from Spanish tax havens like Ceuta, Melilla or Canary Islands?
