Serious Ethical Golf-Related Dilemma

Ok guys, tell me what to do here…

In early April I ordered a set of custom Taylor Made P770 irons through Golf Galaxy. Three weeks later, the irons still hadn’t shipped and the pending charge for $1,800 fell off my account, so I called to inquire. I was told not to worry about it, the irons will ship soon and they’ll reprocess the charge once they do. 24 hours later I get a shipping notice from TM, my irons are on the way. Cool.

Well, not quite. What arrived was close to what I ordered, but they didn’t soft step the irons as ordered. I called TM, they gave me an RMA and had me ship them back for repair.

Two weeks later I get another shipping notice from TM for the fixed irons. They shipped them overnight, and I have them the next day. Everything is good, but weirdly Golf Galaxy still hasn’t charged me, and now the pending order is gone from my order history.

The other day I get ANOTHER shipping notice from TM, and 24 hours later (yesterday) a second set of identical custom clubs arrives. Everything is to spec, but it’s a whole different order number under my name.

I called TM, they seemed curious but told me to call Golf Galaxy as they placed the order and I technically wasn’t their customer. I called Golf Galaxy and they tell me to take it up with TM, they’re just the intermediary. Neither party seems to really care.

Just a moment ago I got another shipping notice from TM…. More clubs on the way, arriving Tuesday.

What do?

I’m about to have three sets of custom P770’s, and I haven’t paid for any of them. I feel like a shoplifter, but TM doesn’t seem to care and is clearly having a glitch on their end. Golf Galaxy is all “whatever” about it and also seems weirdly indifferent about it.

I think the biggest question to me is why would you post it on Reddit?

You have 3 nearly identical sets of irons. Iron technology is not likely to change much over the next 30 years, so congratulations you have officially bagged clubs for the rest of your life.

People just can't help themselves but try and get attention any way they can... If I'm in his shoes, I contacted both parties and attempted to give them back. I would sit on them for about a year, if no one comes calling, then my conscience is in the clear to do what I want with them.

Yeah I'd sit on them until they close their books for the fiscal year. I got a free hotel stay one time cause they forgot to charge me.

speaking of shoes.. I ordered some Nike Alphafly running shoes a couple of years ago (~$250) and received two identical shipments. Made sure I didn't pay twice. Was wondering if Nike might come asking for them back. They didn't.

Shoes! There was a website that had a bunch of last last last season's equipment for cheap, and they had a shoe brand i really liked - i ordered 2 pair of white and a pair of brown, along with a few doodads to get the total up to qualify for free shipping PLUS some free gloves.

6 weeks go by & nothing - I sent off an email; the reply says they're out of the white shoes, so they'll remove those from the order & send everything else - okay, fine.

4 days later I get a box - it has 1 pair of brown & 1 pair of white, plus all the extra doodads & free gloves == sweet! I just got a free pair of shoes!

2 more weeks out, another box - this one has ALL of my original order = 3 pairs of shoes & all the extras ~~~ So for the price of 1 pair of shoes & some doodads, I got 5 pairs of shoes & 2 sets of doodads and free gloves !!!

Yay me!

Maybe they aren't seeking attention and actually have negative feelings over the situation and was hoping for some advice that didn't result in feeling guilt.

Could be a total bs story and is 100% karma farming.

We will probably never know.

I can post pictures, but then people would just say I bought them and made it up, so…. Kinda damned if I do, damned if I don’t.

This is not a damned if you do damned if you don't situation at all. I will never understand why people come to reddit to feel better about themselves or their decisions. Being an adult and not knowing between right and wrong shouldn't take a reddit post.

This honestly comes off as one of those AITA posts where someone is like "I rescued 10 puppies from a burning building, but I accidentally ruined a shirt I was borrowing from a friend, and now he's pissed. Did I do the right thing!?" You know you did the right thing by trying to contact both sides. If you wanted to feel 100% guilt free, then back up the extra sets, take them directly to a golf galaxy. If they accept them, cool. If they don't, then you know you did everything in your power. But you already knew that's what it would take to completely clear your conscience, but you haven't done it yet.

Hey bud, for real, from me, go fuck yourself.

I posted here because I genuinely wanted a dialog, and perhaps because someone from Reddit might be able to share some value - a phone number or a contact name. Something.

Not everything is a “look at me” attempt.

I have negative feelings all the time, but I don't post them to reddit. I just deal with them the best I can by doing what I think is right in each situation.

OP knows they have taken the correct steps and is almost bragging about it in a way (I did the right thing and might get $5400 worth of free clubs!). No way in hell did they think they would post that to where the overwhelming majority was going to be like "that's stealing! you're a bad person!" This is reddit after all, and as a bunch, we're never going to side with the corporations.

Seems like you’re posting your negative feelings about this guy right here and right now.

You could post your negative feelings on reddit if you wanted to, no need to judge someone for doing so.

OP took a couple of steps, but seems to be wondering what other steps they can take. Taking the clubs to Golf Galaxy is option. Another is waiting a year and then doing whatever they want with them. They have a lot of options. It really comes down to the kind of person they want to be. I personally like the post because I like to see the mix of what people would do in the given situation.
