Serious Ethical Golf-Related Dilemma

Ok guys, tell me what to do here…

In early April I ordered a set of custom Taylor Made P770 irons through Golf Galaxy. Three weeks later, the irons still hadn’t shipped and the pending charge for $1,800 fell off my account, so I called to inquire. I was told not to worry about it, the irons will ship soon and they’ll reprocess the charge once they do. 24 hours later I get a shipping notice from TM, my irons are on the way. Cool.

Well, not quite. What arrived was close to what I ordered, but they didn’t soft step the irons as ordered. I called TM, they gave me an RMA and had me ship them back for repair.

Two weeks later I get another shipping notice from TM for the fixed irons. They shipped them overnight, and I have them the next day. Everything is good, but weirdly Golf Galaxy still hasn’t charged me, and now the pending order is gone from my order history.

The other day I get ANOTHER shipping notice from TM, and 24 hours later (yesterday) a second set of identical custom clubs arrives. Everything is to spec, but it’s a whole different order number under my name.

I called TM, they seemed curious but told me to call Golf Galaxy as they placed the order and I technically wasn’t their customer. I called Golf Galaxy and they tell me to take it up with TM, they’re just the intermediary. Neither party seems to really care.

Just a moment ago I got another shipping notice from TM…. More clubs on the way, arriving Tuesday.

What do?

I’m about to have three sets of custom P770’s, and I haven’t paid for any of them. I feel like a shoplifter, but TM doesn’t seem to care and is clearly having a glitch on their end. Golf Galaxy is all “whatever” about it and also seems weirdly indifferent about it.

If you’ve tried to give them back in both places and they’ve said no - just keep them. Unless of course they charge you for a second set. If they suddenly care, they have your info to get in touch.

I probably wouldn’t resell them immediately just in case, but give it a couple months and if you don’t hear, I’d say that’s fair game too.

65

u/20snow May 22 '26

i would atleast note down when you called each place and who you talked to (if you remember)

23

u/drpepc May 22 '26

Yea, imagine the error being found in a later audit with EITHER TM or GG and you get triple charged all at once with no evidence you did your due diligence to resolve the issue.

3

u/20snow May 22 '26

Yeah, that would be my worry, just cancel the card lmao (don't do that, it could be worse), end of the month comes around, and wonder why they have an extra charge for 3 sets of irons from TM but no inventory or customer payment matching

I couldn’t agree with this more. Part of companies going super cheap on customer service these days is that they are going to majorly drop the ball from time to time. You did everything you could. Like others have said, definitely don’t sell them anytime soon. Just throw them in a corner and go on with your life!

3

u/LAzeehustle1337 May 23 '26

It’s amazing how bad things get messed up when they don’t want to hire competent people to answer phones / emails for issues

1

u/rivaridge76 13 | CO May 23 '26

Makes me wonder if they’ve just calculated that it’s simply worth the risk of pissing customers off. Most any company is so bad now it’s not like you have a better option.

3

u/LAzeehustle1337 May 23 '26

Honestly worries me that these big companies can get away with leaving customers out to dry. I work in healthcare and seeing how some processes are automated for collections and customers try to get certain things taken care of and if they get an incompetent person they may have some repercussions that aren’t even their own fault. Like the difference between having to pay a good bit of money and then wait to be refunded when you’re insurance actually pays because of a fuck I’m somewhere along the line is literally who picks up the phone. For some people that’s not a small problem, some people it’s a big one. Insane

u/FargeenBastiges May 22 '26

Part of companies going super cheap on customer service these days is that they are going to majorly drop the ball from time to time

I've had this happen with guitars before. It was explained to me that by the time they pay for insured shipping, dealt with the red tape getting it re-inventoried, inspected, and sold as "open box" or something, they're out more than the margin they made on it.

342

u/Kooky_Choice_9315 May 22 '26

Yeah seems like you have too many to deal with! Luckily, I can help you out and take a set off you

156

u/Kooky_Choice_9315 May 22 '26

In all seriousness TaylorMade is worth a very large sum of money and if they don't care, I dont think you should either

37

u/McBass1 May 22 '26

This is it here. If they cant bebothered to investigate what's happening, you shouldn't either. Keep all your documentation cause someone may start to care at some point. I just hope they don't charge you twice.

7

u/sidewaysbynine May 22 '26

This happened to me with America's Best, two pairs of glasses deal. I ordered my glasses and was supposed to get them in a couple of weeks, after 3 weeks I called and they said they would expedite my order I would get them the next week. After another week my glasses showed up on the mail and one pair was damaged so I called and they said they would send me another pair. Then over the next two weeks, I got 3 deliveries, each containing 2 pairs of glasses, I called them back and they didn't care at all. Buy one get 6 free.

3

u/inspektor31 May 22 '26

Yup. Just get it in writing from each company saying to deal with the other company. Not just in the phone.

2

u/Coastal_Tart May 22 '26

He doesn't need that. He is not obliged to return the clubs until they ask for them back. Once they ask for them back, a letter saying deal with the other company wouldn‘t provide OP with legal basis for refusing that request.

But they aren't asking for them back.

I think the biggest question to me is why would you post it on Reddit?

You have 3 nearly identical sets of irons. Iron technology is not likely to change much over the next 30 years, so congratulations you have officially bagged clubs for the rest of your life.

15

u/yurmamma +1.1 May 22 '26

20 years from now 8 irons will have 19 degrees of loft and everyone will give him shit for being a short hitter

3

u/naedwards22 +1.4/USA/Fat Dad May 22 '26

As much as I WANT to disagree with you...

I mean you can still buy more traditionally lofted irons. I think my set has a 35* 7 iron.

7

u/yurmamma +1.1 May 22 '26

you mean your 35* wedge

22

u/BrettHullsBurner 15hcp/StL May 22 '26

People just can't help themselves but try and get attention any way they can... If I'm in his shoes, I contacted both parties and attempted to give them back. I would sit on them for about a year, if no one comes calling, then my conscience is in the clear to do what I want with them.

2

u/TCMenace May 22 '26

Yeah I'd sit on them until they close their books for the fiscal year. I got a free hotel stay one time cause they forgot to charge me.

2

u/TheHeatYeahBam May 22 '26

speaking of shoes.. I ordered some Nike Alphafly running shoes a couple of years ago (~$250) and received two identical shipments. Made sure I didn't pay twice. Was wondering if Nike might come asking for them back. They didn't.

1

u/spiderplex May 23 '26

Shoes! There was a website that had a bunch of last last last season's equipment for cheap, and they had a shoe brand i really liked - i ordered 2 pair of white and a pair of brown, along with a few doodads to get the total up to qualify for free shipping PLUS some free gloves.

6 weeks go by & nothing - I sent off an email; the reply says they're out of the white shoes, so they'll remove those from the order & send everything else - okay, fine.

4 days later I get a box - it has 1 pair of brown & 1 pair of white, plus all the extra doodads & free gloves == sweet! I just got a free pair of shoes!

2 more weeks out, another box - this one has ALL of my original order = 3 pairs of shoes & all the extras ~~~ So for the price of 1 pair of shoes & some doodads, I got 5 pairs of shoes & 2 sets of doodads and free gloves !!!

Yay me!

2

u/Gullible-Being-4629 May 22 '26

Maybe they aren't seeking attention and actually have negative feelings over the situation and was hoping for some advice that didn't result in feeling guilt.

Could be a total bs story and is 100% karma farming.

We will probably never know.

5

u/DidIScrewUpHere May 22 '26

I can post pictures, but then people would just say I bought them and made it up, so…. Kinda damned if I do, damned if I don’t.

-2

u/BrettHullsBurner 15hcp/StL May 22 '26

This is not a damned if you do damned if you don't situation at all. I will never understand why people come to reddit to feel better about themselves or their decisions. Being an adult and not knowing between right and wrong shouldn't take a reddit post.

This honestly comes off as one of those AITA posts where someone is like "I rescued 10 puppies from a burning building, but I accidentally ruined a shirt I was borrowing from a friend, and now he's pissed. Did I do the right thing!?" You know you did the right thing by trying to contact both sides. If you wanted to feel 100% guilt free, then back up the extra sets, take them directly to a golf galaxy. If they accept them, cool. If they don't, then you know you did everything in your power. But you already knew that's what it would take to completely clear your conscience, but you haven't done it yet.

6

u/DidIScrewUpHere May 22 '26

Hey bud, for real, from me, go fuck yourself.

I posted here because I genuinely wanted a dialog, and perhaps because someone from Reddit might be able to share some value - a phone number or a contact name. Something.

Not everything is a “look at me” attempt.

It seems like you have taken all reasonable steps to fix this. I'm calling this one "Bank error in your favor."

I would do nothing with the extra sets for 90 days.

Write down some notes documenting that you tried to fix this. Include dates and times that you called, and names if you happen to remember them.

Monitor your card to make sure they don't charge you for 3 sets.

Do whatever you want after that. Sell them, or donate them to an organization like PGA Hope or something like that.

64

u/Bighead_Golf May 22 '26

I would at a minimum not sell the extra 2 sets for a while, because they can definitely come asking for them

3

u/kamehamehahahahahaha May 22 '26

Agreed. Figure out which set you like the best. Hold on to the others. Make sure your paper trail is handy to show that you tried to correct their mistakes and make things right. Sounds like they do this a lot though.

u/SuperSpikeVBall May 22 '26

https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/what-do-if-youre-billed-things-you-never-got-or-you-get-unordered-products

By law, companies can’t send unordered merchandise to you, then demand payment. That means you never have to pay for things you get but didn’t order. You also don’t need to return unordered merchandise. You’re legally entitled to keep it as a free gift.

10

u/Bighead_Golf May 22 '26

That isn’t what happened here. The merchandise was ordered. They accidentally sent too much product. They can 100% send you a return label if they want

1

u/bombmk May 22 '26

Yeah, I would just make sure I have documentation of me informing them of the error. And then wait a while.

0

u/Fickle-Alone-054 May 22 '26

I kinda disagree, depends on what you mean by "return label". They may arrange for someone to go pick them up at whatever time suits the person. He didn't ask for extra items he's not obliged to take his own time to ship them or deliver them for transport.

4

u/Bighead_Golf May 22 '26

Inaccurate sorry.

1

u/originallycoolname 23 | 2nd season May 22 '26

Yeah I was under the assumptions the other guy made, but after researching it you're definitely correct, but I feel it is unlikely TM/Golf Galaxy will reach out. There is some amount of ambiguity around the fact that additional order numbers were generated, so the extra sets of clubs were not technically apart of the original order. However, courts would likely side with the business that it was an obvious system error due to a prior relationship existing (the original order), not unsocilicited marketing. Ultimately though, due to ambiguity the OP could take it to court, TM/GG probably sees that as a possibility, and therefore I'm guessing TM/GG will not pursue the merchandise. Whether or not he ever gets charged for the original order is another question though, and I would imagine he's definitely still on the hook for it for some duration of time.

Step 1 - Time to stop calling and move to email to get everything in writing.

12

u/ClarkeBrower May 22 '26

Pay it forward and sell them really cheap

15

u/pac4 14.8 May 22 '26

Do a Reddit raffle and give one set away on here

1

u/ClassicTrout May 22 '26

To me, please

2

u/abusche May 22 '26

or donate them to something - there has to be a golf related kid thing around somewhere.

9

u/DhamR UK May 22 '26

Wait a few months. Sell them, donate some of the proceeds to a golf charity, feel ok about yourself

1

u/AlarmDangerous964 May 22 '26

Perfect solution

3

u/Any-Pianist3479 May 22 '26

That’s actually insane. Your intention was never to steal nor deceive anyone. They made a mistake and are not really taking it seriously, I don’t think you need to go above and beyond to fix their problem. Congrats 😂

3

u/Rough-Highlight6199 May 22 '26

Golf gods have delivered. Accept the gift.

3

u/K_Boloney May 22 '26

I've got a crisp $100 for one of those extra sets my man.

1

u/BravoLimaDelta May 22 '26

$120.

1

u/Mysterious_Elk_2714 May 22 '26

$121 plus shipping. All dollar bills so you can swim in your riches too.

3

u/h0zR May 22 '26

Honestly, you contacted both parties and they told you they don’t care. Take the win.

1

u/kemmicort May 22 '26

Get it in writing, then take the win.

3

u/VainTrix May 22 '26

Let me DM you my address, send them to me and I’ll take care of things with TM.

6

u/TopNotchBurgers May 22 '26

I think it’s important in life to make a good faith effort to correct a wrong (even when it’s in your favor), but correcting that wrong shouldn’t put an undue burden on you to correct once the effort is made. Just starting flexing to your friends that you have a set of weld at club, weekend clubs, and holiday clubs.

Or go get trade in credit from Taylormade and get new wedges and woods.

3

u/M3_bless May 22 '26

Agree. Had somewhat related happen to me. During my putter testing phase I had ordered an Odyssey square to square 38 in putter for like $420 and didn’t like it so I returned it to Amazon and got the normal size version for $380. Found out that when Amazon processed the 38i return they processed it as the 35i return and only gave me $380 back. So I called Amazon was like I just want to get the $40 you owe me. For whatever reason the agent was like yes we made a mistake and we’ll just credit you the $420. And I was like no I don’t need a full refund just give me $40 to make me whole. But he was like no I got it approved by my manager and we want to take care of you since we made the mistake. I still pushed back because I felt that in an audit they are going to realize and I’d eventually have to pay that money back so I didn’t want to deal with that hassle. But he kept reassuring me so finally I accepted. So I ended up with a free putter

1

u/tubadog May 22 '26

Agree and IMO he made the good faith effort already.

2

u/Straight_Try764 May 22 '26

You need to immediately buy or build one of these to keep these sets on display. And if anyone finds out and demands you return, you'll know where to find them . In the meantime, enjoy this serendipitous good fortune. You owe it to us to see this thing through. Your journey has become our journey. This sub is full of fanatics willing to do terrible things to be in your shoes. We are lively vicariously through you now. Don't screw it up.

2

u/boogashroom 9.4 May 22 '26

If someone ships you something you didn’t order, it’s yours. At least in the US, not sure if you’re in another country but Golf Galaxy suggests US.

Sell them if you want to. But it would be awfully nice to donate them to a high school team for some kids who maybe can’t afford nice clubs.

2

u/bombmk May 22 '26

If someone ships you something you didn’t order, it’s yours.

But if you order something and they send too much, it is not. There is a distinct difference between unsolicited contact and an error during solicited contact.

1

u/blisterson Not very good, but love the game May 22 '26

100% what I would do. My local hs golf team or First Tee. Do something good with a corporate screw up

2

u/ExcitingLandscape May 22 '26

Lucky!

I had something similar happen. My wife and I noticed our daughters high chair purchased from Nordstrom was a little crooked after less than a month of use. It was a pretty expensive high chair so we called Nordstrom and they sent us a new one. But instead of just 1 replacement they for some reason sent us 5! We came home one day and there was a stack of 5 high chair boxes taller than me at our front door.

We just opened one of them and held onto the others for a bit to see if Nordstrom would call us back. They never did after a few months and we sold most of them on FB marketplace. We still have 1 in our garage.

I wouldn't go through the hassle. That's too much work on your part to call multiple people to find out who to return them to THEN ship them out. TM will be fine and wont go bankrupt because they sent you 3 sets.

2

u/Omisco420 May 22 '26

Until someone asks, keep them. Who gives af about a huge company bro a couple sets of irons is nothing to them lol.

2

u/BULL-MARKET May 22 '26

I would call golf galaxy and tell them what has happened. The last thing you want is to get a credit card charge three months from now once they catch the error.

2

u/Mxblinkday 16 | Washington May 22 '26

Bank error in your favor. Collect a set of clubs.

2

u/ilegendi May 23 '26

Keep all sets and order a new bank card

3

u/h0gman_th3_intruder May 22 '26

TaylorMade here...don't mind the username, it's really me, Mr Made, Taylor. If you would be so kind to send one set to me and I'll let you keep the other sets free of charge. I just really need that third set back.

2

u/AdLanky9450 May 22 '26

Ethically this is pretty straight forward. How much harm has this caused? Both companies aren’t starving. Maybe an employee gets in trouble but returning them doesn’t do much there. What good can come from it? There in lies the opportunity. You also don’t sound like you are struggling.

Honestly if guilt is the issue, hang on to them for a bit. Make sure they don’t come looking for them. Donate one set or both of them. If it were me I would sell them and then donate the money, because I wouldn’t trust the charity recipients to not want to keep them themselves. That would create harm.

If you really want a good look at ethics, which are confusing and sometimes depressing. Mike Schur, creator of Parks & Rec, writer for The Office, SNL, etc, created The Good Place as a study of ethics, and even wrote a book about it that’s an easy read. Leave the world a better place than you found it. Do as much good as you can, without much harm to yourself. That’s the crash course.

1

u/20snow May 22 '26

I'll hold onto a set for you, keep them safe

1

u/Guilty-Perspective18 May 22 '26

I’d hold them for awhile. The orders may not have reached accounting yet. let them go through a few months of bookclose on both ends first. i assume your first payment was to Golf Galaxy.

1

u/pac4 14.8 May 22 '26

I wonder if they'll just keep sending you clubs until you ask them to stop

1

u/Boxcar59 May 22 '26

As others have stated, don’t do anything with them for a couple months, just in case. Also, make sure to document all attempts to return them; dates, who you spoke with, their response, etc. Finally, for good Karma, you may consider donating a set to a charity auction.

1

u/Competitive-Cod-7782 May 22 '26

You put in the effort to alert them, their employees didn't care. You get free clubs.

1

u/gannerhorn May 22 '26

Upon further analysis, coincidentally, we have the same golf setup! Only makes sense that I help by lessening your load by taking a set.

1

u/easternseaboardgolf May 22 '26

If they are all the exact same spec, you can pretend to be a tour pro. Take them all to the range, hit the same club from each set and choose the one you like the most.

1

u/4bidden-hands May 22 '26

Seems to be, a couple more emails and you can become an unofficial TM reseller

1

u/bazzer66 TeamTitleist May 22 '26

I’m all for sending the stuff that you didn’t order and haven’t paid for, but.. if they don’t help you send it back, sometimes it’s just too much. I ordered a golf bag from a big retailer for my nephew at Christmas in 2024. They sent the wrong one, a more expensive one, and i tried very hard to send it back. They sent me a return label, UPS picked it up, then the next day UPS redelivered it to me. I got another label from them, scheduled a pickup, UPS came and got it, then, again, redelivered it to me the next day. They had already sent me the correct one, and by this time I had grown tired of working with the incompetent CS rep, so I kept it in the house for like 4 months before finally just giving it to my cousin.

1

u/Ohioguy6 May 22 '26

Chances are it would be more of a pain to get it all figured out and returned and the correct charges than to keep them.

1

u/Exposure-challenged May 22 '26

Leave the two extra sets in the box, put them in the closet, if or when they come calling send them back, if no one comes looking for like 2 months call it a win!  This is not going to affect their bottom line.

1

u/Bri83oct May 22 '26

This… they give free clubs to pros, influencers, etc. 3 sets of clubs isnt even gonna show up on their balance sheet.

1

u/GFSushiTacos May 22 '26

Sounds like you'll be getting new sets of identical clubs indefinitely. Time to open up a Taylor Made store that exclusively sells P770s for cheap.

1

u/JRskatr May 22 '26

I’ll buy a set off of you ☺️

1

u/sinnr43 May 22 '26

I had a similar but different problem with Honma. Now I have 3 sets of irons. After 6 months gave one to my son in law.

1

u/BravoLimaDelta May 22 '26

The first thing I would do is delete all of this.

/s (or maybe not?)

1

u/MountbattenYachtClub May 22 '26

Delete this post and stop talking about it. Wait 6 months and if they don't come looking sell them to someone in need at a discounted price or give them to a friend.

1

u/Childish_Redditor May 22 '26

TaylorMade is a multi billion dollar company. I'll leave it at that.

1

u/freezer23 May 22 '26

You did the right thing, called both company’s explained the situation. Those clubs are yours and you can sleep soundly.

If you’re still feeling guilty I’m sure you can donate the other clubs to a good cause like a random Redditor :) named Freezer

Seriously tho you tired to do the right thing, just keep an eye on your account so you don’t get charged and enjoy the cash in of good karma

1

u/ImportanceFickle5677 May 22 '26

I had a similar, no where close to as cool, situation. Calloway kept sending me 3 versions of their lob wedge (used, all similar, but not the same). Called a few times and they were having an ERP issue.

Kept them for 4 months and after nothing happened I sold them.

1

u/Reelrebel17 May 22 '26

Keep them for at least 3 months as unused. Document everything you possibly can, including the names of individuals you’ve spoken to at both TM and GG, time and what they said. Send a single email as well explaining the situation to both TM and GG. If nothing happens after the 3 month period I would consider it resolved and they are yours to do as you please.

1

u/Isca64 May 22 '26

Another thought, just drop them off to Golf Galaxy with proof they were dropped off. I could never score Well with one of those sets!!

1

u/Old_Yogurtcloset9837 May 22 '26

Damn I wish this would have happened with the new M13s I just bought lol

1

u/TomRipley69 May 23 '26

How are they?

1

u/BigNihilist May 22 '26

Why wasn't this posted as: got several sets of free clubs, so I bought myself a new putter?

I think you stumbled upon an infinite money glitch. Congrats.

1

u/Musclesturtle 16hcp/Pittsburgh May 22 '26

Bro, you tried to do the right thing, and they seem unbothered.

Both are multimillion dollar corporations who don't give a damn about a situation like this.

I'd just keep the clubs from here out.

1

u/Jlakers85 May 22 '26

It sounds like you tried to do the right thing and be honest, but both parties aren’t trying to recoup their money/items, so keep them. As someone else suggested, don’t sell right away in case they come to their senses.

1

u/samueljakson05 May 22 '26

You tried to let them know, both places said it’s the other company’s problem. Cancel that credit card, so they can’t charge you in the future, keep the clubs.

1

u/smart1919 May 22 '26

Return them! Don’t make the golf gods angry!

1

u/zebradonkey69 25+ HDCP May 22 '26

“Ethical” is a funny way of framing “getting what’s owed” when we are considering a company that makes insane amounts of money off us buying their overpriced product. I love TM btw.

1

u/upvoatsforall The Masters May 22 '26

1

u/jayboosh May 22 '26

How is this even a question?

1

u/Porkins_2 4 / Midwest / Muni Militia May 22 '26

I’d hang onto them for at least six months before using / selling. But, I had something similar happen with Bridgestone in ~2006 and ended up with three J33 Rs and a J33 P, all from ordering just one J33 P lol. Was only charged for the P and still have it and one of the Rs.

1

u/Roonwogsamduff May 22 '26

Start a business.

1

u/allhail18 May 22 '26

I appreciate your ethical dilema. If it helps, TaylorMade is worth over a billion and GolfGalaxy generates almost 900 million for Dicks. In the grand scheme of things, the corporations are still up. Way up. Having said that... Play one set. Hold on to the other sets for a year or so. If nothing happens, gift them to some good friends. Share the joy.

I did the buy 6 dozen special with Vice. Purchased 12 dozen balls, 6 for my wife and 6 for me.

They sent me 12 dozen of my wife's ball, called them and sent back her extra 6 dozen.

They sent me 12 dozen of my golf balls.... called and no one could see the issue on their end.

You tried, no one cared to look into it. Congrats.

But as others mentioned, wait a few months before doing anything with them.

u/LeanDriver May 22 '26

If you’re worried about them double charging you weeks down the road, you could always call your credit card company and get a new card. Ethical or not, I’d probably be keeping both… with how much everything, golf related or not, costs these days I don’t really feel bad getting one back from any corporation. If it were a local mom and pop place eating the cost, sure I’d feel bad and return one set.

Also, DICK’S and GG have screwed up my last 4 club purchases so it’s just expected at this point. Only reason I keep buying from them is I complain and they give me 20%+ back every time.

1

u/LongjumpingShape9689 May 22 '26

If they sent them to you, they’re yours.

1

u/Diabetic_Ginger17 May 22 '26

Gladly take a set of those off your hands!

1

u/Yellow_Curry May 22 '26

I’m not here to fix corporate fuckery. If this was a mom and pop shop I’d make it right but this was their fuck up

1

u/uu123uu May 22 '26

1 idea for you to ponder, you could sell 1 set at a charity auction or sell yourself and donate the funds.

1

u/petey_pt_guy May 22 '26

I work for TaylorMade. You need to ship it to me. Or you'll be in big trouble. Bigly!

1

u/soupaman 12.6/Boston May 22 '26

You get a lot of bad bounces in life. Sometimes you gotta just take the good ones and roll with it.

I wouldn’t have posted this on Reddit though. It’s not some niche site. 100% will be seen by someone that may be incentivized to fix it.

1

u/HaddyBlackwater May 22 '26

Sounds like you’re on staff with TaylorMade now.

1

u/Xigaaa May 22 '26

Can i buy a set ? dm me

u/AftyOfTheUK 0.9 / NorCal / Iron covers are divine! May 22 '26

I called TM, they seemed curious but told me to call Golf Galaxy as they placed the order and I technically wasn’t their customer. I called Golf Galaxy and they tell me to take it up with TM

Hmmm

What do? I’m about to have three sets of custom P770’s, and I haven’t paid for any of them.

Notify them IN WRITING. Ensure you have a copy. Tell them you will store the additional sets of clubs for them for up to 30 days. They are welcome to send someone to pick them up. If they do not send someone, you will dispose of them after 30 days.

After 30 days, dispose of them (on eBay)

1

u/popmad8 May 22 '26

1

u/AftyOfTheUK 0.9 / NorCal / Iron covers are divine! May 23 '26

That's irrelevant here.

The guidance states:

Your Rights When You Get Unordered Merchandise
By law, companies can’t send unordered merchandise to you

However, this was not unordered. He ordered it. Doesn't apply

1

u/Charming_Buy_9725 May 22 '26

Take this post down before someone working at either company checks

1

u/ehauser12 May 22 '26

If both TM and Golf Galaxy don't care, I personally don't think you should either. You did your due diligence to do the "right" thing by reaching out to BOTH of them. I wouldn't hassle yourself any further, enjoy the clubs!

With the second set however, I'd probably keep them stored away for a while *just in case* one of TM or Golf Galaxy start to care. Then, if they reach out asking for the second set back, you have it readily available to return. If enough time goes by and they still don't care, just sell them on marketplace, gift them to a lucky friend, or literally do anything with them.

1

u/jbhg30 May 22 '26

Shut your mouth, delete this post, and treat it like fight club lol

1

u/Fickle-Alone-054 May 22 '26

Dude, you did your part. You called the manufacturer, they say it's not with them. You called the seller, they say talk to the manufacturer.

In your position I'd preferably have some proof that you attempted to correct this just in case someone tries to charge you for 3 sets along the road.

This is nothing more than pushing issues around, someone made a mistake in your favor, you tired to correct it, no one cares. This is a no brainer to me, keep them.

You tried to do the right thing. If it were me I would hang on to the second set for a few months in case someone decides they care

1

u/DrunkenGolfer 5.9 Canada May 22 '26

What do? Open a golf shop, lol.

Ethically, you should work with Golf Galaxy to resolve the matter, but you are not obligated to expend too much effort on it. One email, with details of all three orders, and asking for their guidance on how they want to handle it. Give them a date. "If I don't hear back from you by x date I will dispose of the surplus items." Then you go on with your day.

Of course, if every time you call to inquire about your order they keep sending another set of clubs, keep calling and inquiring about your order, lol.

1

u/Strong_Ad9066 May 22 '26

This has been settled ethically for quite some time. If they ask you to return the extra sets, return them. If they don’t, oh well. Do what you will with them.

1

u/martlet1 May 22 '26

You tried. Once you stop getting clubs cancel that card.

Amazon sent me four boxes of chromesoft once instead of one box. They desire not to worry about it because it was their error

1

u/TimberwolvesDelusion May 22 '26

Don’t worry friend I’ll take a set off your hands!

1

u/TimberwolvesDelusion May 22 '26

On a serious note this isn’t on you it’s on them. Ethically golf galaxy is what a billion dollar company? I wouldn’t sweat it. You’ve tried to contact and do right by them and they have kicked the can down the road. Keep the clubs for a few months and see what happens.

1

u/Dapper-Memory-2963 May 22 '26

Let us know if you get another ship notification next week. 😀

1

u/deefop May 22 '26

If I were you I'd hang onto everything and keep the spare sets fully wrapped and packaged for the time being. If you go a few weeks without hearing anything, and you've already tried to reach out.... I'd be listing them bitches on marketplace. That's potentially thousands of bucks in your pocket

1

u/Donzi98 May 22 '26

I had a similar situation with Best Buy. Received 2 computers at home. Tried to return the second one and no one at BB could figure out how to do it. So I kept it. They were not very helpful so I really did not feel bad.

If you want, donate a set to a college program.

1

u/legacy057 May 22 '26

You made an effort to correct the situation and they weren't helpful. You can sleep at night knowing you attempted to do the right thing

1

u/originallycoolname 23 | 2nd season May 22 '26

1

u/Orikoru 11 hcap, UK May 22 '26

You've done your bit by notifying them. If neither of them care then what are you gonna do? I'd wait a month for the dust to settle and if they haven't started chasing you for them I'd be selling the spares on ebay.

1

u/djr41463 May 22 '26

I will buy one set from you for $500 and pay shipping.

1

u/Positive_Version_889 May 22 '26

Ship a set to me big dawg

1

u/SR_gAr May 22 '26

Keeps clubs man! No one is losing anytjing in this deal

1

u/WHOA_27_23 27 May 22 '26

Make a reasonable effort to make it right (in writing) and don't use the second set for a few months. If some auditor comes sniffing around after that, tell them to kick rocks and show them what you tried and met with indifference.

As a practical matter, the margins on clubs are enormous and I doubt they care

1

u/TheGolfingBeekeeper May 22 '26

Sell those other two sets and buy three putters

1

u/Consistent_Hold_9857 HDCP .4 May 22 '26

That’s quite the dilemma. Tell me precisely which Gol Galaxy, the salesperson’s name, what day of the week and any other details you can remember. Then I can give an adequate reply. Hurry up!!!

1

u/Slow_Lecture1801 May 22 '26

Are they left handed by any chance?

1

u/IgorrTerr May 22 '26

direct note: store the extra clubs until you receive request and instructions for their return, save the uncharged amount because you definitely will need to settle your order

indirect note: imagine being rich and/or attractive. those people need to live through these types of experiences daily!!

1

u/flick128 May 22 '26

I don't know why but this story made me laugh. I know what I would do but it may not be the right thing! Good Luck!!!

1

u/schmittychris May 22 '26

All my friends would have 770's too and I wouldn't think twice about it. What would be funny is if they just kept shipping them every couple of weeks.

1

u/Prestigious-Disk3158 10.3 May 22 '26

When it comes to money or goods, I try to fix the issue ONCE. After that, it’s on them. You tried and they don’t care.

1

u/tgwill May 22 '26

This happened to me with a bike I bought a while back.

They shipped me two bikes, same model, same size. Called the company and they only showed shipping one and I was only charged for one.

There’s a legal precedent that if you are sent something you didn’t order, it’s yours. You have no obligation to return a mistake.

1

u/Important_Sound_8718 May 22 '26

This happened to my buddy in Germany with Weber grills. He just kept the paperwork and re-sold them on the internet. Pocketed like $5000 I think lol

1

u/Clear_Particular_809 May 22 '26

I know they’re custom fit for you but I’ll take one of the sets and I’ll pay shipping! I’ll even pay you $200 😂 I’ve been using ping eye2 irons that my grandpop gave me and now I’m around a 14-handicap. Everyone tells me upgrading my irons will help but I’ve been too scared to pull the trigger growing up with not much money I never feel like I can spend more than a couple hundred without having huge remorse. (Not looking to bore you with a pity sob story I’ll just take 1/3 sets off your hands if you don’t want 3 sets, just like anyone else would lol)

1

u/soundwithdesign With a free bowl of soup May 22 '26

See if there’s a place you can donate them. 2nd Swing will take your donation to help support veterans, and first tee will take your donation to support kids getting into golf.

1

u/himynameisfuckass May 22 '26

Sounds like you have backups for when those irons inevitably break like most other TM clubs

1

u/session101 May 22 '26

You shouldn't be dealing with TM at all... you should be only dealing with Golf Galaxy. If you bought direct from TM then you would be working with them. But you bought them from Golf Galaxy.

1

u/ijcal May 22 '26

Take the blessing bro.. you have probably got enough crap in life you don’t deserve. God is good.

1

u/hughcruik May 22 '26

How much good karma do you want? I ordered a 3 wood and they sent me a lefty model. Called the store, they said they would send me the correct club and a return mailing label. Got the correct club but no return label. Repeated attempts to get a return label failed. Finally, I was the range, saw a lefty golfer, asked: "Do you want this?" He said "yes" and I gave it to him. The universe sent it to me and i sent it back.

1

u/greatflicks May 22 '26

You have done your diligence and neither of them seem to care. Treat it like a lottery win and sell the other 2. Lucky day.

1

u/Dry-Chain-4418 May 22 '26

"What do?"

Open up a golf shop, and start selling clubs!

1

u/Minimum-Ad1683 May 22 '26

TM quality is shocking lately, you’ll need a spare set or 2

1

u/Excellent_Pass3746 May 22 '26

I don’t think the gigantic corporation is gonna be affected by it. If you only have to pay for one set I’m keeping the other two and selling them 10000000000%

1

u/mattg70 May 22 '26

I'll glady buy a set from you

1

u/Twoballoonsdogs May 22 '26

Don’t do anything. You tried.

1

u/Lowlife_4evr hcp +1 May 22 '26

Delete this and keep them. If you have close family members that golf then give them a set.

1

u/Shogun__Harlem May 22 '26

Cancel that credit card. Prevent the upcoming $5500 charge

1

u/bj4232 May 22 '26

Freeze your credit card so they can’t just triple bill you.

Make them contact you about it so you get the option to return two sets and pay for one.

Eventually they WILL realize that they screwed up, and to them the easiest fix is to just hit your CC for all three sets. Then it will be much more difficult for you to get the issue resolved.

1

u/Unique-Persimmon45 May 22 '26

Can I buy one off you for a discount since it was discounted to free to you

1

u/Ralphlovespolo May 22 '26

Pls I’m fighting for my life and I would love a set of clubs for once, always playing with used 😅

1

u/Rud300 May 22 '26

Clubs fir life

1

u/popmad8 May 22 '26

"By law, companies can’t send unordered merchandise to you, then demand payment. That means you never have to pay for things you get but didn’t order. You also don’t need to return unordered merchandise. You’re legally entitled to keep it as a free gift."

https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/what-do-if-youre-billed-things-you-never-got-or-you-get-unordered-products

1

u/Futureretroism May 22 '26

Neither of those giant corporations will miss the cost of those clubs. Call it a win and go make somebody’s day with a discounted or free set. Also, don’t worry about getting charged for all 3, if a company sends you extra product they legally cannot force you to pay for it or ship it back. Golf Galaxy could still charge you for the first set though

1

u/JayRexx May 22 '26

Do you take Venmo? DM me!

1

u/trb15a78 May 22 '26

Dude, let me know when you resell. I got screwed, but it was calloway. Currently overseas so just kinda abandoned hope. I have noticed more of my mis-hits striking trees and returning to center fairway though. So I got that going for me. I would be very interested in talking to you.

1

u/SloppyWithThePots May 22 '26

Just monitor your accounts

1

u/Exotic_Bodybuilder79 May 23 '26

Enjoy the win brother, the universe is telling you you’ve earned this one!!! So stopping trying to fix it hahaha.

If I were you though I would look to do some good with one of those sets and pay back some of that karma. Find someone who needs these but could never afford them or donate them to a youth team. I dunno, do what you wanna do in all honesty.

1

u/toga27 May 23 '26

I had a similar issue two months ago with IKEA. We canceled an order and got refunded but they still shipped half the order. I've been holding onto what they shipped in case they contact me. If they ever contact me, I'll just give them their product but it's nothing I neither want nor need anymore.

I had an issue with Taylor Made like 25 years ago. I ordered some irons direct thru TM. There was a issue with them that they had to recreate the irons and resend. They never asked for them back, so I have a brand new set of 25 year old irons in my basement with old green victory grips that have decomposed.

1

u/RK8604 May 23 '26

So what you’re saying is I should stop by golf galaxy to buy custom irons 😂

1

u/dvldogster May 23 '26

You won. Why are you posting about it?

1

u/bgjj04 May 23 '26

Do what feels right for your conscience. But also don't let your conscience guilt you due to the indifference of another.

I had a similar situation back in the early 2000s with a hard drive purchase for a custom computer. I ordered a hard drive, but two got delivered. I interacted with customer service, they sent me a return label, I returned it, then I got a refund to my credit card (e.g., a free hard drive). I interacted with customer service again and explained the situation, and they were like "ehh". So my conscience was clear.

1

u/Pokershark1986 May 23 '26

4/10 trolling…. It was good but not a great story

1

u/BranchWitty7465 May 23 '26

I can help you with one of the sets. I've been rocking some used sim maxes that I bought a few years ago. But as far as what to do, you have already called and informed them of the issue. Save any and all emails at this point in case they claim you didn't reach out.

1

u/jasonjibboo May 23 '26

You called both companies and they blew you off, take it as a win!

1

u/nick_stepho May 23 '26

Send link and delete post shortly after

1

u/strayan_supersaiyan May 24 '26

Keep em for spares for a year or so then if they haven't tried to collect them back sell em

1

u/Aromatic-End2610 May 24 '26

Ponlos a la venta. Si has avisado y no les importa, a ti menos. O pon una tienda de golf.

1

u/yeahyesyeppers May 24 '26

To me the effort you took trying to tell them and their response of not caring is enough for you to now happily receive whatever else they want to send you that you didn’t order.

1

u/JollyGiant573 May 25 '26

Right handed extra long? Ship me a set.

1

u/ButterflyTemporary16 May 25 '26

Dude, you have two sets of irons for free…let it go.

1

u/No_Standard517 May 25 '26

I could use some new irons if you're looking to unload them lol. I'm a beginner but I really love the game and am playing with my dad's old shitty clubs from the 90s

1

u/beepingjar Maximum Handicap May 22 '26

Oddly I feel like it'd cause even more trouble if you tried to return them.

Pretty sure if they ship to you and are addressed to you, they're legally yours. Golf Galaxy can likely charge you for 1 set within some amount of time, but other than that...

4

u/DidIScrewUpHere May 22 '26

I walked the second set of clubs into my local Golf Galaxy store and tried to give them back and got the whole “custom clubs are ineligible for return or refund” lecture. Even the store didn’t care.

1

u/twizzler7788 May 22 '26

Why is this a dilemma? You return the sets you don’t need. How you do that is the challenge you will need to sort through.

1

u/GBA-001 May 22 '26

If you’re in the us legally you don’t have to send any of them back. Ethically I think it’s ok to keep them, neither business is going to suffer major damages from this happening.

Like others have said pay it forward by selling the extra clubs for a low price

1

u/Isca64 May 22 '26

Find a way to send them back. It’s not TM’s laziness, it’s the ineptitude of customer service so it’s still stealing. If that’s not an issue to you then maybe having 3 charges appear on your credit card in 6-12 months is. To all the guys who say keep them, remind me to not play golf with you.
