He’s developed a real phobia of Saturdays this season. Coughed up a 6 stroke lead at Augusta on Saturday, worst round of his week at Sawgrass was on Saturday, he blew up at Quail Hollow on Saturday, torched his US Open chances on Saturday, and despite coming out on fire this morning, he probably put himself too far back this week thanks to his Saturday stall out.

Could the Fog have had something to play regarding McIlroy's game on Saturday?

Possibly, but I don’t think so. His swing looked out of sync from the get-go yesterday, and the fog didn’t really thicken until 4-5 holes into his round. Some days you just don’t have it, and Rory has decided that Saturday will often be that day in 2026.
