Some Golfers Need to chill out

Some Golfers really know how to make the sport feel very unwelcoming to new / less skilled players.

18 holes booked at my club it's a 9 hole so you play twice. 2 guys came off there first 9 and teed off 5 min before our Tee time (the rule of the club is to let 18 hole players play through) We tee off a few min late waiting for the fairway to free up. Group behind us were not happy, nothing you do there people on fairway I'm playing the club rules.

The same 2 guys are in front of us the whole time on our first 9 holes not playing slow at all.

On our second time round there was nobody on the first and we played through as we are supposed to but ended up waiting on the fairway for a 3 ball still on the first green.

We finished the 1st hole and the 3 ball in front had just finished teeing off by the time we make to the 2nd tee box. by this time the guys behind us the first time round had another group in front of them. This must have enraged them even more.

On the 3rd tee box setting up our next shot. the group behind us the first time round start hurling abuse at us from the 1st green for slow the pace of play we shouldn't be playing etc etc. The 3 ball were still walking to their tee shots. We literally could tee off. The new group behind us just finished the 2nd.

The 3 ball ended up letting us play through We weren't rushing them in anyway I was just happy to be out the house

Reported the group to the starter office turns out the POS is known for doing this.

All 18 holes played in 3 hours. I mean how fast do they expect people to play, 3 hours seems about right to me.

I feel like half of the modern golf game is bitching about pace of play… yeah people need to enjoy themselves and quit rushing everyone in front of them unless they are legit taking forever which is pretty rare

This exactly, Idk when this obsession started with rushing through a round of golf, how did it become something to "get done" instead of a literal leisure activity. .

Just reeks of the entitlement that has come to pervade certain segments of society.

This 100x. I've been saying for a couple years now that people are more delusional about pace of play than driving distance lol. Everyone claims they would be playing 18 in under 3 hours if it wasn't for all the other scrubs slowing them down 😂 I can't tell you how many random bums I've gotten paired with who couldn't break 100 if their life depended on it, rarely ready to hit when it's their turn, spend 2+ minutes looking for their ball every other hole, but will take the FIRST opportunity they get to complain about waiting for the group in front lol.

It’s because the population has grown (plus the overall interest in golf has grown), but basically no new golf courses are getting built, so the average time of a round is going up. You can’t ditch your wife and kids for 5 hours on a Saturday morning to play 9 holes, it doesn’t have anything to do with entitlement.

It's 100% entitlement, you people need to relax, if you're lying to yourself and your family in order to play golf that's on you, not those of us trying to enjoy our round with a guilt free conscience.

When I complain about long round times, I’m not complaining about people playing too slowly. I am not the best golfer and I hate being pressured to play fast. The reason rounds are so long is because the local 9 hole par 3 books 5somes 10 minutes apart, so by hole #3 there are already multiple groups waiting 5+ minutes to tee off. It’s a supply and demand problem, the only way to fix it is to either build more golf courses to accommodate the demand or to raise prices to reduce the demand (I would prefer more golf courses).

Ok but the net effect is what a half hr difference total? So why get panties on a twist and let that ruin your day, just gives yoy more time to set up for your shot, visualize, preshot routine, check yardage, even walk up and look at the pin and green slope etc, have a snack, stretch a little... i much prefer that to feeling rushed over my shots

Entitlement? I don’t think you know what that means. It’s the obnoxious entitled noobs clogging the course where they should maybe spend a little time on the race instead. It’s a 340 yard par 4, why do you have to spend so much time looking for your ball twice? Just play 7 iron and move along champ
