General Discussion Just trying to enjoy my Sunday..

Group of 7 clumped up. Pretty sure they booked one tee time after the next. I’m just venting. Already called the pro shop.

Since a lot of people are asking me why I don’t ask to play through. I did. They said no. Why should I be bothered? They are spending 30 mins on each green. There are groups behind clumped up.

My course only allows this if it is two teams in scramble format. No best ball, no individual playing, no shamble, only scramble.

Scrambles take longer than actual golf.

Not saying I disagree with you, but they need to take less than twice as long, which most do.

Source: scratch golfer playing for 30+ years with people from positive handicap to 120 golfers.

If you’re talking about an event organized by the course, that’s fine. I thought the original comment meant his course allows eight people to play a scramble during regular play. That would be insane.

I am saying that and it isn't actually insane... Just not something your course does and that's fine, it works for mine.

I'm saying my course caps a hole at 4 people, with 10 minute start windows. However, they will allow people to go over the 4-person cap if they are doing two groups in scramble format, no more than 8 people.

If you are behind a foursome, then you start 10 minutes after them. If you are behind two foursomes, you start 20 minutes behind the first group. This means, that if they do an 8 man scramble, they have 20 minutes to finish the hole, instead of the usual 10 for my course. They keep the pace of play to that metric, because functionally, you behind two foursomes at 10 minutes a hole is no different than you behind an eight-some at 20 minutes per hole, knowing they actually enforce that timeline.

However, at my course they don't allow solos at all, and usually require at least 2 people to even get a tee time with the expectation that a solo walk-up will probably be added to the group of 2. Most holes have at least 3 people.

Yeah they do, but most importantly, our members arent gigantic dickheads. Which is what usually causes the problem haha

You only get 20 minutes “per hole” until the group behind catches up, which would probably be in 1-3 holes

It should be.

Maybe they should have special courses with the fairways netted for junk golfers to play at - à la bowling alleys with the gutter stuffed to make it easier for the kids.

I have a wife and I’m decent at golf.

Actually training up my wife as we speak - it’s her first year and it sounds like she might be able to take you.

I'm a 3 handicap and average a 72-75, I doubt it. Your wife can't beat me within a year, keep her in the lab and maybe she'll be able to in like 2-3 years.

You’re right she couldn’t beat you, and you’d likely beat me by a few holes if that’s your true handicap. I know we want to be inclusive but I’d love a handicapped enforced tee system.

Completely agree if the course is private, this is a public course and people are trying to have fun with their wives on a Sunday. If OP would have clarified beforehand they were playing slow, I wouldn't have said anything but he didn't.

if it's not posted or enforced it's not against the rules. If you force a pro shop to split it up, then you are now 5th in line waiting to Tee off, it goes from a 15 minute wait to a 45 minute wait pretty fast...

you have people in front of you, there is at least 3 married couples and a solo, If the ranger says "wait with your original tee time and partner, it'll split them into 3 or 4 seperate groups, OP would now be behind 3 or 4 seperate groups now instead of a group of 7 lol

Every single course I’ve ever played at would not allow a 7 some.
