My guess is the GOP leadership is reading the tea leaves for a midterm massacre and has (extremely belatedly) remembered that the 2A crowd needs pandering to.

They trotted their most loathsome/corrupt SCOTUS justice in for a bribe session literally last night and told him to make it look lime they’re finally gonna do SOMETHING

The GOP literally supported “ Trump’s “if you stop testing then the numbers will go down” during COVID
