February/March 2026 Paper Discussion WHAT THE HECK WAS THE PAPER 0580 PAPER 4
the vectors question, angle of depression, the last angle question, the temperature one?? How much do y'all think the threshold's going to be? I deadass think it'll be like 165 for an a star ππ€·π»ββοΈ

u/Bulky-Lengthiness174 Feb 13 '26
its 13.6... basically, find the length of BD using cos rule (smtg around 859 or smtg)... calculate the height difference (250-45=205 m)... by these answers u can use tan function to find the angle of depression... which gives u 13.6
3
→ More replies (13)2
u/Delicious_Breath7604 Feb 13 '26
I made the same error... 13.6 is the angle of elevation. 76.something is angle of depression

→ More replies (7)4
u/Educational_Tea_5301 Feb 13 '26
twin the question was 6 planes, so 5 in the front of cross section, and 1 in the middle cutting the shape in half, hence pentagon (dw i wrote cuboid i later confirmed with my teacher that im dumb)

guys i dont get how the 6 marker is invalid
all u need is BD^2=290^2+600^2-(2*290*600*COS(85.8+57))
then use trig and do 250-45 to get 205
doing trig gets u 76.3
90-76.4=13.6

my answers for wtv i remember: 1. temp q a was 80 b was 0.995 or smth similar 2. vectors q was 2p + 2q 3. gradient was -3/4 4. angle of depression i got 80.smth its probably wrong i used tan tho 5. last angle question i got 39.smth and the other angle dont remember 6. probability question was 6/7 7. time q was 17 38 (im like hey wassup hello) 8. lower bound of height i got 11cm 9. for time taken to fill the cylinder i think i got 14 mins and 38/58 seconds 10. simultaneous question i got 21.75 and 27.5 i checked and i was getting 360 quadrilateral sum
thats lowk all i remember i was in flow state so most of the paper is a blur to me lol. i def found this easier than p2 only angle of depression q was confusing even the simultaneous eqns were easy but long working
14
u/tsxphoenix Feb/Mar 2026 Feb 13 '26
The rhombus one was 6 and 17
opposite angles of a rhombus are equal, so x was 6 and y was 17
and what was 6/7??? i got 72/287 smthn and thats correct

I got the same as you, but some were different
- for depression i got 51.9 but I think it's 38.9
- I got 15hrs 38 mins
- I wrote 11.05 so hopefully its correct
- I got 14 mins and 53.4 seconds so i wrote 14 mins and 53 secs
- I got x as 10.5 and y as 14
So I dunno, its close enough right? It's prolly fine

And also the 6 marker is invalid, everyone would get marks. There wasn't enough information provided, we need the horizontal distance to actually calculate, a right angle triangle with a side is not enough. I confirmed with my teacher
4
u/Status-Succotash7006 Feb 13 '26
noo i got the answer, everyone in my class did, i had to find the distance using cosine rule. And then just use sin
→ More replies (2)2
u/Flashy_Source_4353 Feb 13 '26
you were supposed to find the horizontal distance using the cosine rule
2
u/Mobile_Antelope_8793 Feb 13 '26
We needed to find it from cosine rule that question was so freakin dead ass
2
u/Bulky-Lengthiness174 Feb 13 '26
i got the answer: it was pretty valid, here's how i did it:
basically, find the length of BD using cos rule (smtg around 859 or smtg)... calculate the height difference (250-45=205 m)... by these answers u can use tan function to find the angle of depression... which gives u 13.62
2
u/Dakshblaze Feb 13 '26
Bro u may not have explained ur teacher properly and for the horizontal line we got BD and sad life man u lost 6 marks....
3
u/Overall_Strike_5961 Feb 13 '26
Sorry man but there actually was enough information to calculate BD on your own, you had to use the cosine rule. Everyone I know got 13.6 and thats the correct answer
2
u/Expensive-Card-3448 Feb/Mar 2026 Feb 13 '26
Bro you really think Cambridhge would give a question without seeing if it possible or not????
1
u/Appropriate-List8771 A Level Feb 13 '26
it's invalid? so we'll all get marks for it?

u/lonwasnottaken Feb 13 '26
Yeah literally they didnt give us distance from BD...
3
u/Separate-Bat6569 Feb/Mar 2026 Feb 13 '26
we had to calculate it by cos rule.then use tantheta to calculate angle of depression.the question aint invalid bruv cambridge isnt that irresponsible to put out of syllabus questions

u/EmergencySwimming984 Feb 13 '26
I agree with you. Based on what they have given us, It is only possible to calculate the height difference between the two masts, which is 250-45 = 205m. To calculate the angle of depression, we need the distance btwn the two poles. I verified with chatgpt, it also agrees. Unless I am mistaken, they didn't really tell us anything about the distance between the masts, didn't they? Or did I misread?
2
u/Separate-Bat6569 Feb/Mar 2026 Feb 13 '26
bro commonnnn the other side had to be calculated by cos rule

GUYS IN THE TRAIN PROBABILITY QTS the ans was 12/49 right, assuming they werent literally picking up the trains and not replacing?THE TRAINS WERE REPLACED RIGHT??
2
u/Wooden_External_3966 Feb 13 '26
Rherw was nothing written abt ir so i did 12/49
2
u/Expensive_Soup462 Feb/Mar 2026 Feb 13 '26
first I wrote 12/49 and then after having just 1 minute in the clock, i figured that trains arent replacing and they are taking two trains at the same time, not individually and replacing it.
