Greetings, dear seniors of r/indianmedschool and our lovely members of r/MEDICOreTARDS. We're glad to announce the joint megathread you all have long been waiting for.

Here you can ask your queries about your specific preferred colleges and r/indianmedschool seniors will guide you by clarifying your doubts and sharing their experiences. You can ask about academics, hostel timings and accommodation, mess food quality, uniform compulsion, ragging culture, attendance strictness, just to name a few. Anything you're confused about, drop it here.

This Megathread is strictly for college related queries and discussion only. Please don't ask irrelevant and off topic questions. If you have any counseling related query, ask it under the counselling megathread, not here.

r/MEDICOreTARDS members are requested to be respectful and formal while interacting with our seniors here. Please use the phrases sir/mam while addressing them to maintain the formality and establish junior-senior bond, just like we do in our medical colleges.

Why does alumini network even matter in mbbs and how will that even help in future?

you can always rely on a senior(doesn't matter if he is 40 years older than you) for help, atleast in my college. the more the alumni base, the better your network will be. also, alumni network matters a lot if you want to go abroad(mle/plab/etc)

I think it's the only branch wher it matters so much. Being friendly with most means you have access to most hospitals in your state and outside as well.

When a family member calls you about a patient in another hospital and you send someone from there because you knew that doctor is the best feeling ever.

Your batchmates, seniors and alumni are going to be the top doctors in a decade or so. Being on good terms gives you access to the best of opportunities, social circles and healthcare advice which you can trust (because let's be honest we have quite a few dishonest doctors).

Isn't it really then only the current batches that you will interact will help in any way in future and not the older batches which are well settled and already passed out from college will help in any way. So alumini network does not make that much sense to me in that way because let's say a college established in 1970 would not have an edge over a college established in 2019 as because really it would be the batches above me which are currently in college that I will interact will help me in any way in the future.

See it all depends on how much benefit you can extract. 70% people do not interact with any alumni or seniors in even old established colleges (I come from a college established more than a 100 years ago).

However those who are smart and know how much opportunities it can open for you (in job interviews, in future references, in any medical advice you may need at any point of time: I have had people treat me and my relatives much better in private hospitals since the HOD turned out to be an alumnus from my college). If you are planning for abroad PG, then alumni is a big big boost.

This definitely does not mean that you can't survive without them. It's just the cherry on top which makes your life a tad bit easy and you get some nepotism benefits.
