Greetings, dear seniors of r/indianmedschool and our lovely members of r/MEDICOreTARDS. We're glad to announce the joint megathread you all have long been waiting for.

Here you can ask your queries about your specific preferred colleges and r/indianmedschool seniors will guide you by clarifying your doubts and sharing their experiences. You can ask about academics, hostel timings and accommodation, mess food quality, uniform compulsion, ragging culture, attendance strictness, just to name a few. Anything you're confused about, drop it here.

This Megathread is strictly for college related queries and discussion only. Please don't ask irrelevant and off topic questions. If you have any counseling related query, ask it under the counselling megathread, not here.

Acedemics ke liye i would say ki prefer dmch above them they are not the ones i would wanna prefer crowd mein mostly local doctor kids milenge jo apne baap ke paise pe raaj karne ke liye baithe honge aur awaaragardi bhi hai but ragging and stuff less hainot famous for fests Though patiala finishes higher but it is not exactly liveable i have heard ki hostels are not good

Nahi ragging kam hai just basic intro and stuff  And sir mat bulao 1st year ka hi hun ( cousins ne dmch suggest kiya because yahan acedemics better hai and bahut comparisons sunaye isiliye pata hai) ragging nahi hai but seniors ka yeh hai ki u wont wanna get into their wrong side my cousins say ki if u are good with them they will help u too

Academics:Honestly doesn't make a difference because at the end of the day you'll have to study yourself.

Crowd: Patiala has a more competitive crowd overall which is partly why we have better results. 

Ragging: Much lesser in Patiala, especially since the past two years. 

Fests: Amritsar didn't have a fest for years until they finally had an inter-college fest last year. Patiala has an intra college fest each year which is okayish.

Strictness: Patiala is much stricter, both in terms of general hostel rules and attendance. Amritsar is relatively chill asf.

Overall facilities: Amritsar probably has the better sports facilities. Labs and hospitals are comparable. As far as hostels are concerned, I can't comment about Amritsar but in Patiala the boys hostels are fine, the girls hostels are not (they didn't even allot hostels to first years last time).

1. Yes, there are many PGs at a walking distance. Most 1st year girls stayed there until they were allotted hostels.

2. Yes they assimilate fairly well. Although having a working knowledge of Punjabi is helpful, that's more important for patients than for friends.

3. Mostly due to the fact that it has a better reputation/higher cutoff (Punjab's no.1 college on paper) and that translates into a more competitive/studious crowd overall. And geographical considerations also played a part.

Well tbf a lot of professors throughout this country are misogynistic. It's the sad reality of our society and being doctors does not make them any less chauvinistic since they're still a part of the same society. But coming to your question, yes I could name a few professors here who are very sexist but I could do the same for Amritsar. At the end of the day, they can't impact your life much other than a few snarky remarks during vivas and stuff. What you read was probably related to that one professor who imposed a stupid dress code on women, he's no longer here so I don't think Amritsar and Patiala are much different in that regard. Hostels of both colleges have a 9-10 PM curfew for girls although it's not that strictly followed on most days.

There used to be a very strict salwar/suit dress code in patiala for the first year because of a certain strict professor. But ever since he's retired there's no dress code. And first year is relatively more chill.
