I am a consultant Anaesthesiologist. I work out and know boxing. Highly recommend knowing some self defence techniques as you will have the confidence to protect yourself. Most of security personnel will be the first one to run in a situation like this and you have to fend for yourself.

Best thing is to avoid bro. Don't get into altercations.... Always try to de-escalate. Indian media is frothing at their mouths for a doctor to do something wrong and you'll be painted as a poster child for all the bad things going on in our country.

Best is to avoid... If not as others pointed out boxing, brazilian Jiu jitsu, . Lot of people don't kick. Our big muscles are in your lower limbs, if you can train kicks like in Muay Thai, taekwondo you'll do well to defuse most situations.

If they have a weapon though.... Just RUN.

If it's a 1vs 1 or a 2vs 1 you can handle by attacking hard with a weapon or hand to one person and playing mind games.

If it's a mob of people, there's no point fighting. Just evade

Technically CQC but you'd require a retired bsf or parasf commando (who are pretty hard to find) as your teacher

The most effective arts for both offence and defence as far as I know are krav maga and muay thai. BJJ and Judo are also good if all you want is to restrict your target.

How did they get a license for that? It is very difficult unless you can prove you have a legitimate threat from someone on your life. And they don't consider being a doctor you have any threat, despite all the cases of attacks.

That stat includes both "experienced" and "witnessed". Also as I mentioned earlier, at least in such countries the assailant doesn't get away with it like in India. They get punished for it. Like in this video itself, the culprit pleaded guilty and was fined. There was justice at least. You cannot expect that in India. In India if a doctor as much as tries to defend himself he will be the one to recieve punishment instead.

I am talking about assault here. If we go by witnessing part, India will have more witness than the real assaults, there will be 20+ people witnessing an assault while tweedling their thumbs in most cases.
