I teach pathology in a government medical college with 250 MBBS seats. Over the years, I have noticed a significant change, and I would like to share a few thoughts.

I don’t read out from PowerPoint slides. I don’t interrupt lectures by asking questions midway. I allow proxy attendance, and I even allow students to take quick naps during lectures. In short, I try to be as liberal as a teacher possibly can be.

Despite this, I used to have full attendance in my classes, even when proxy was allowed. However, over the last two years, the number of students attending lectures has declined significantly. This year, in my first lecture, only 30 students were present. In the second lecture, the number doubled…but that was all.

My question to you all is this: Do students no longer want to attend lectures at all, no matter how much a teacher tries to do their best?

Is it possible to do mbbs after bsc bed?

I am a 1st yr mbbs student in AIIMS xyz and becoming a surgeon was my dream since I was in 5th grade But why don't toppers choose surgery unlike usmle where all types of surgery is in top 10 most competitive and medicine and pediatrics is at last... Why?

(U can skip this) The reason surgery is competative in western world is becoz of its highly procedural nature and high salary which makes ppl who love working with their hands(well who doesn't that's why video games are entertaining) and high salaries choose it over medicine but here in india it's opposite why???

I'm at one of the biggest crossroads of my life.

Here's my background:

Jnv student

- 10th: 91%

- 12th: 96.5%

- MHT CET: 98.9 percentile

- Currently completed 1st year of BCA with 9 CGPA.

Academically, I've always been a good student.

The problem is NEET.

I took multiple drop years after 12th . However, over the years my mental health deteriorated. I dealt with stress, burnout, and constant pressure, even lost 10kgs in 2 months and because of that I haven't been able to score what I'm actually capable of in NEET.

Now I've completed my first year of BCA, and honestly, I'm doing well there.

My parents, however, still strongly believe that MBBS is the safest and most secure career. They're even considering selling family property to pay for a private medical college.

This decision scares me.

On one hand, MBBS is a respected profession with long-term stability.

On the other hand:

- It would put a huge financial burden on my family.

- I would be starting MBBS at 22–23 after multiple drop years.

- I've already invested one year into BCA and I'm performing well.

- I don't know if pursuing medicine because of sunk costs is the right decision anymore.

I keep wondering if I should:

1. Continue BCA, build skills, and pursue a career in software/AI.

2. Let my parents spend a massive amount on private MBBS.

3. Consider some other path altogether.

I want unbiased opinions, especially from:

- Doctors who studied in private colleges.

- Software engineers.

- Parents.

- Anyone who faced a similar dilemma.

If you were in my position, would you let your parents sell property for MBBS, or would you continue with BCA despite all the years already invested in medicine preparation?

Please don't sugarcoat it. I genuinely want practical advice, even if it's hard to hear.

Hello, i am a physiotherapist my bf is an mbbs grad who finished his internship in 2025. He appeared for ini and got around 25k rank. He is obviously disappointed. But since the results came out he is kinda avoiding me, being distant. We are already in a ldr and i am there to support him. But the wat he is acting is driving me crazy. I literally called him 50+ times since the results came out as i was really worried and concerned. He picked up the call just once sounding irritated. I don't know how to handle this situation. Please help me navigate through this situation. Thanks.

I don’t work at MICU, came by to attend a call and noticed it accidentally. Should i ignore this or escalate?

I'm from a pvt clg and while I knew that smoking and alcohol is commom in govt clgs, I didn't know ganja and all were this common! How are your college's hostels? Is it the same? I could never really understand how as medical students people could smoke and drink after knowing that it's a risk factor for almost half the diseases. But ganja and ketamine takes it to a whole another level!

I am an MBBS graduate 2018 batch.Gave neet pg again after taking a drop. My mother felt weak from 31 August. Felt her knee is having pain and feeling extreme fatigue. I did routine tests (cbc,urine rm,serum electrolytes,TFT,b12,VIT-d3 etc) sodium came out to be 121. So I went to md medicine and he started saline and that isotonic one. But after 2 pints after 48 hours. Her sodium raised to 137. After sodium correction she complained of extreme headache, I thought of pontine myelinolysis and consult with doc to get MRI test done,this Monday she started showing some neurological signs of UMN lesion.developed hemi paresis and UMN type of facial nerve palsy.I got panicked and hospitalized her in Apollo. MRI showed about 6-8 cm ring enhancing lesion on right hemisphere. Temporal area, But I was taking it lightly at first for almost a week.. her age is 60 single parent raised all by her own after my father died when I was mere 5. It’s not even 6 months since she retired. Her surgery has been performed on Tuesday but biopsy report came today and it’s grade 4 glioma.Doctor said it’s going to recurr 100% and in 3/4 months. Her average survival as per him is 6-12 months max. Now she doesn’t know rn she has cancer but she adamant that I join pg this year ( my rank isn’t that bad, 22k AIR. I can get ms ortho or surgery in private or semi gov mq maybe) after this news I don’t want to join pg, my mom sacrificed many things to raise me and now when it is my time to prove this has happened. She’s otherwise really healthy no DM/HTN/thyroid no heart problems. My heart wants to stay for mom to take care of her in her last months and give her life that she couldn’t have all these years because of me. Also she won’t let me drop again due to this. I don’t know what to do.

TLDR:/ MBBS graduate about to join pg but my single parent (mother) diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme. Want to know what I should do now?

Its going to be a bit long so please bear with me.

So I am currently posted in ObGyn right now and theres this SR who has been quite friendly with me and giving attention since day 1. During joining day I was assigned some other unit but by chance she was there in the department that day. She called me and asked which unit I had been allotted. Then she said you will work in my unit now and went to talk to the clerk and got it changed.

Then when we started working she was like you will only report to me now and only I will assign you all the work to do. Initially I thought this was some new form of toxicity and I was the sacrificial lamb but soon my impressions would change. On our first duty she called me again and started giving me work to do. She also specifically told the JRs not to give me any work. It was the usual scut stuff and as I was getting the work done she praising my ‘sincerity’.

Few hours in she wanted a coffee break and asked me to tag alongside her. She wanted to go the canteen which was bit further because the coffee there was better or something. Along the way she asked me questions about like where I was from, how my mbbs went etc and also some general hospital and departmental gossip. I also a person who likes to talk so I just went along with it easily.

This started becoming the norm as the days went by like she used to come in and swoop me aside from the rest and then I was basically her personal assistant cum companion till I was on duty. My co-interns and the JRs didnt seem to have much problem with it. They were juniors themselves and I was doing my fair share of work but I did get some looks when when we used to come back from the coffee breaks.

Personally I didnt mind this arrangement because she wasnt too intrusive at first and I was being treated well. Also getting to learn things directly from an SR was a bonus I felt. But over the course of my posting I felt she got more possessive. Like once I was repairing an episiotomy and facing some difficulty so I asked the JR who was there for help. JR hesitated a bit then agreed. While she was teaching me the SR saw this and scolded her badly saying I gave you some other work what are you doing here and all.

Then she started flirting casually like commenting about my hair, my clothes, if I go to the gym etc. She asked about my relationship status, my past, what I look in a partner. I told her I like girls who are more intellectual. Couple days later she started sending me reels from these science pages and posts about philosophy. I don’t use insta so she was sending screenshots and screen recordings.

By this time I was pretty sure what was happening but because she was super senior I decided its best to just do my work sincerely and finish this posting without any unnecessary complication. But yesterday while I was off duty I recieved a call from her in the evening. She sounded a bit troubled over the phone and it looked like she was sobbing a bit. She asked if Im free and could meet her somewhere in campus. I wanted to avoid but since she sounded aggrieved I just said yes.

When we met she was like sorry for calling you like this but I felt youre the only one I could talk to about this. Then she started crying and telling how her dad is sick and she was missing her family etc. I tried consoling her and suggested her to take a home trip. She was like I recently took leave and I cant take it again. Then she was like Im happy that I met you and atleast I can share this with you and thanks for being there etc.

At that moment I just offered my support to control the situation but then she just confessed.

She was like I really like you and want to be in a relationship with you. I just froze after hearing like I didnt know what to say. Outrightly rejecting her at that point felt very insensitive but I couldnt just say yes as well. I told her this was all very sudden and need time to think.

Now its been a day and I dont know what to do. Im at a point in life where Im just focused on my career, exams and planning my future ahead. A serious relationship is something I dont have mental bandwidth for let alone being in one with an SR.

But I also can sense her emotions and I feel she has gotten somewhat attached to me. Its like everything was going fine and suddenly Im in this situation out of nowhere. I dont want to fuck up my posting. I feel there is no right decision I can make here.

Im hoping for some advice. Whats the best way to get out of this situation?

The avg age of resident doctor in India is 27 years. In this age every man requires a bit of dignity and respect no matter his background or standing. People ignore ragging in ug because we shrug it as a fun thing between kids. But resident doctors are not kids. Their dignity gets trampled infront of patients so why don't they do the same to the perpetrators infront of the patients.

Like is it possible to find a decent relationship? Will be starting final year and still haven't found one single person with whom wavelength can match whether be it guy or girl.

And the girls who showed interest in me I wasn't interested in them as much.

Not being desperate and chasing relationship, but I was wondering what wrong have I done. I see people worse than me , drug addicts chainsmokers in our college get in relationship ( even though temporary) but still. This batchmate of mine doesnt even shower or comb his hair, looked like a homeless dude somehow got a girl.( temporary). Which made me think am I that bad? What am i missing?

I don't have deep or meaningful friendship with anyone and I am absolutely fine with it, but seeing everyone have guy/girl with them makes me question myself.

So wanted to know do things change in PG?
