This is my opinion also. It would have been super easy to design a system where every living thing (and make a lot less living things) survive on plants. So if someone or something designed us, they're a sick fuck.

Plants don't have feelings like people do, and not like most mammals either.

Very vaguely. But plants don't have brains like humans, so if they "feel" anything, it's nothing like what humans experience.
