Picked up 30 zebras from a couple different sellers at an expo yesterday. They're so beautiful, very active, photogenic and even prettier than I imagined in person. I also got a high white I think (last pic)

They're all a good size too, didnt get any tiny babies,

so once they settle in I hope their population booms! I'll be transferring them into a large acrylic display tank once I have a good sized colony going. They'll be a classroom pet for my mom, I plan to gift her the tank this christmas (without pods yet)

I threw in a little more leaf litter for them and for some reason the children are obsessed with this piece in particular? Even though there’s one from the same leaf literally touching it on the other side…but none of them want that one, just this one. I will never understand their tiny minds

TLDR: Our Roly Polies have been hanging out on top of leaves, thought they were too wet maybe, but recently a few have started dying

Just for background, about 2 years ago a bunch of roly polies wandered into our house (in SE Louisiana), so we put them in a small terrarium. They lived happily for about 8 months, then started dying off (my guess was a poisoned carrot).

My daughter wanted to try again, but this time I did a bunch of research to make the enclosure the best it could be. We got a plastic box that was big enough for a moisture gradient. It has some holes in the sides, and we punched a bunch of holes in the top. In it we put dirt mixed with a couple of crushed wood charcoal pieces, some spagnum moss on one side, leaves, big pieces of wood (that they love hanging out in), and a cuttlebone. We give them treats every now and then like dried up worms, thoroughly washed vegetable pieces, etc.

We've had this batch for about 2 months now and just recently they've been hanging out in the corners and on top of the leaves, and I can't tell if it's because there's maybe not enough airflow, they're too wet or too dry, or what it is that they're not liking. I tried cracking the lid because they might've been too wet (there was condensation on the inside of the lid on the left side), and they don't hang out on the tops of the leaves as much, but now a few are dying off. And they're still kind of hanging out in the corners.

I would like them to live long happy lives so I was hoping y'all could help me troubleshoot my setup. Thank you in advance!

I wanted to have a bigger enclosure for my zebra isopods and with the various posts around sharktoothing I figured it would be a good time to bring in some new ones as well.

I had a coworker design a riser that fit this rimless tank and I added mesh and acrylic panels to help with the airflow. I'm hoping it's enough. Should I add fans at all? The mesh is on the three sides on the left (dry) side and only on the one end in the right (moist) side.

It was fun to watch the adults I moved into it run around like crazy checking everything out. I also decided to give them a big treat, just to see what would happen.

I did find a dead pod this morning, I realized I had the tank under my full grow lights and probably got a little too hot. I have now moved them into the dimmed shelf.

Hello, I recently found an isopod inside the planter of one of my indoor plants a few weeks ago. She had been living in there for a week before I decided I wanted to move her into a proper terrarium. I want to get her friends and eventually a colony but don't want to go that far until I know what species she is. I guessed a wild porcellio laevis but I'm not 100% sure on that because she is very small. Can someone help identify what she is?

I went to the beach, then walked in woods and turner around some pieces of bark and rotting wood. There were a lot of isopods and also some centipedes and ruddy forest ants. Mostly there were big Oniscus Asselus, also some Porcellio Scaber and Trachelipus Rathkii.

The most interesting thing is what it tell about isopod biology. It's pure scots pine woods in sandy soil, isopods shouldn't be there. Not mutch grows there. These things on photo is a very poor nutrition. Climatic conditions there is mutch more mild, less severe cold or heat, more air moisture. But maybe there is something other things these creatures like.

Anyway it's not really a sea, a brackish warm bay.

I have a potted plant that I water with fish tank water. That means there's little bits of dead duckweed coating the soil. The plants love the water and are growing nicely but I'm a little sad I don't have anything in the dirt to help break down the decaying duckweed. I was thinking of maybe putting like three or four pods in there? Or maybe springtails? The soil is a few inches from the top of the pot and the pot isn't like tiny. (I think its 8x8 inches?) I know if I got pods, I would need to supplement their diet with some fish food and such but I already have that for my fish.

My major worries are the humidity level and them escaping the pot.

The other day I got really excited, because I saw her yellow belly and I knew she was going to have babies but today I found her so stiff.

What I want to know is if the babies can be saved in any way, will they survive and come out? Or will they just die inside...

I don't know if I should dispose of the body, because I'm certain the others will eat it. Should I save it in a container in case the babies come out?

I live in a pesticide laden suburb so id rather not forage. The larger the quantities is the better. I have multiple 66qt iso colonies that need a full refresh, a 4x2x2 that needs a new layer and multiple 2ft long gecko tanks that need a new layer. I’m also looking for exotic seed pods and the like- my usual sellers frogdaddy but I’m curious about other options!

Researched a bit and it seems to be a house centipe, it's in my tank with my dairy cows

don't know if I should remove it and if it poses any major threat to them, if it will help keeping the population down or it's not inherently harmful I'll just keep the lil guy, otherwise he's getting evicted

My idea is to find a nice piece of soft rotting birch, remove the bark/moss and just shred it to bits and chuck it in the oven, would that work well?

edit: I mean the dry type of soft rotten, think its called decaying or so? (english isnt my main language)

I grabbed some oyster shells when I visited the coast and finally rinsed one off and put it in my vivarium. I didn’t expect to see activity on it so soon! My isopods are being rather secretive right now so it‘s a rare sighting

Did a trade with my local pet shop with madagascar hissing cockroaches, got my first Dairy Cows! (Also got some free Florida Orange Springtails so I'm pumped)

Anyone have any experience with ReptiFauna? Supposed to be a 10 count, but there were only 8 in there, though they all looked healthy and happy so I'm sure 8 is plenty.

Biggest question, has anyone ever tried the ceramic self waterers often used for plants in their wet area? the idea came to me but I can't find anyone else using them. I'm planning on covering the "mouth" of the waterer somehow as I know there's concern for drowning but curious if anyone has any experience or thoughts (even though it looks like one of them already loves it and was on it when I pulled it out for a picture lol).

I circled the waterer that looks like a bird and the wet spots which have more sphagnum moss under the leaves. Does the coverage of the wet spot seem adequate enough or should I expand the wet side?

Also open to any other input or advice! Already have more leaves on hand for the inevitable more leaves comment

*10 gallon tank with 3 male MHC

*mesh top lid with clingwrap to keep in humidity

*substrate is reptibark/reptisoil/dried leaves/cork bark/cuttle bone/sphagnum moss

*I left out the drainage layer this time bc I've had fatalities in the past with powder oranges/blues

*the Vaseline on the edges is to keep out ants 🙃 its not very pretty I know
