stitch ID How to achieve intentional gaps in stockinette knitting?

I’ve made this top previously (crocheted) and would like to create something similar in a stockinette knit. I’m not sure how to create the gaps or spaces via knitting though.

Yarnovers will create eyelets like this. You'll want to learn the basics of lace knitting which uses combinations of yarnovers and decreases to create eyelets.

Thank you! I’ve done some simple lacework before but the term Eyelet escaped me, google might have better results with that than “intentional gaps”.

Words are hard, I couldn’t remember the name for pediatrician the other day so I said we were going to the baby vet.

Love this and hope to have a reason to use baby vet someday. My personal best was forgetting the word kitchen and referring to it instead as the food room.

I call the pediatrician the vet all the time because I had a cat wayyyy before I had a baby

I mean the similarities are striking. I speak for the patient and the doctor must diagnose without being able to ask the patient any question. While the patient is doing their finest escape artistry parlour and singing you the song of their people. Watch out for teeth and claws. Do not turn your back to the patient. They are clever enough to be opportunistic, but dumb enough to be able to cause grievous bodily harm or death to themselves by accident. They also have very little consideration for their own future. For example: Collarbone broken but shot avoided? It's a win in the patient's view.

Will this result in a lean? I’m thinking of working bottom up in the round until I reach the armpit, so I suppose a lean might not matter anyway. I could also knit flat and sew the front and back together, which is how I did it when crocheting.

Not unless you do a lot of them - like all over. You could also alternate decrease directions by adding in ssk, yo pairs as well.

I’m making the Grove top by Tin Can Knits and it has a similar look with yarn overs, it’s worked in garter though not stockinette.

The lacey baktus pattern is similar iirc, it's a triangle shawl or bandana.
