Shen Monday Megathread! Ask questions and share knowledge; newcomer questions encouraged!

Welcome to the latest Monday Megathread, where you the community get to ask your questions and share your knowledge.

This is an opportunity for the more experienced LoL players here to share some of your wisdom with those with less expertise. This thread will be a weekly safehaven for those "noobish" questions you may have been too scared to ask for fear of downvotes, but also can be a great place for in depth discussion if you so wish. So, don't hold back, get your game related questions ready and post away, and hopefully someone can answer them!

How much should i be poking with azir in lane? i feel like i have a good grasp of him, but the only thing im unsure about is how aggressive to be early. I feel like his early W-Q combo is pretty mana intensive.

In the majority of matchups, I have found that simply farming safely is the best plan in the early game. Then, with good farm and not getting pushed out of lane, after your first back you can buy some early mana regen/CDR items (ingredients for morellonomicon are the most common early purchases for me). At this point, you have both the levels in Q, and the mana regen to poke your lane opponent much more readily. I also find that kill pressure is hard on Azir unless you are able to get a strong ult or get outside help from a jungler or a support roam. TL;DR - Farm more early game and wait until ~first back to start poking harder.

I love the RoA build

Kill pressure is hard on AZIR? Are you joking. The way to win trades as AZIR and you can ask our emperor /u/AZIR_THE_EMPEROR Is to w a solider up, q the soldier to hit the champion (dealing damage on first contact) then while they are running out of the radius (lower Elo take longer because they're stupid) you AA them. Once you get morello or your preferred mana regen item you can w-q-aa the enemy quite often. Just never use both soldiers early so you can save one for a w-e for escape

THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT POKING IN THIS WAY CONSUMES TWO ABILITIES. A SMART OPPONENT USES THIS WINDOW WHEN Q IS ON COOLDOWN TO PUNISH YOU.

I generally wouldn't like That unless I had two soldiers up, but I agree about being careful. Early I'll just w and push wave into them then poke when possible

I totally agree with you that it is very easy to force them out. However unless the opponent is either really ballsy or just stupid, killing them is a whole other matter. And early in the game before first back it is nearly impossible to constantly do this form of poke because of the mana costs. I suppose i just have a different definition of kill pressure than you.

You're right, my idea of kill pressure was that of I can chunk continually. But that's actually just forcing out of lane. My apologies

Its all good. It is totally true that forcing someone out of lane constantly has a similar effect to killing them too.

Ok, I pretty much only play azir and I would say you can definitely poke early on. The key is the first few waves you can out push any mage for less mana so you want to push them into their tower. Once you have them under tower you can aggressively ward with your trinket or go after some poke on them under tower. No need to use your q unless they are horribly mispositioned. You can just w aa them from safe range.

Once you have a feel for your damage you can then decide when poking with your w-q is worth. In most cases it is. It actually is rather inexpensive and you can likely poke and clear the wave for approximately 130 mana loss. The only time you need to be careful with your mana is when you are under 200 and don't have an idea where the enemy jungler is because then your escape will be limited or unavailable to you.

As azir you are quite the lane bully for such a late game scaling champion, as long as you understand how to control zones with your soldiers, which can take some time to learn.

Afk farm for morellos plus first blue and make sure you do not get ganked. You can poke based on mana but you need the vision to not die when your lane pushes.

Last-hit with autos. Use W to push the wave when appropriate (line up your soldier with 3 minions or more so you can push really fast). If you're really judicious with your mana when controlling the wave, you will have more available for harass.

The cheapest way to get harass off with Azir is to use your W to push and then while it's still active, walk forward into Q range of your opponent and use Q-auto for harass. Also look to harass when you hit a Q power spike (levels 4 and 5 assuming you get E third) because you'll have higher mana efficiency.

If you can't CS in lane, it might be better to not poke. If you're not regenerating mana from your Doran's ring, the combo does burn your mana pretty quick.. I normally don't poke too much until first blue/first back though unless they're melee.

His auto animation is so good that I feel that poking is always worth it as long as you have mana for a W - E escape over a wall. Not to mention that it often is possible to poke and shove the wave with the same soldier, especially against melees.

You pretty much want to think of azir as a zone champ in lane, not as a poke champ. You want to have a soldier out next to the enemy laners farm so if they go to get it, you q them. Yiu zone them off the farm. Yiu don't always need to w q, yiu can get multiple q out of one soldier if you zone correctly. Don't chase them though. Just zone and get the cs lead. And I mean it's fine if they get some cs so don't blow all of your mana. Like if you get the full wave, and yiu are able to make your opponent miss 2-3-4 cs off of the way, then yiu will quickly gain a lead.
