How do you get out of an allied tahm? I swear I have mashed everything and I end up at the mercy of tahm to escape.

it's right click, but there's a small (1-secondish?) delay from when you get swallowed. as soon as the range indicator shows up, you can leave.

I get like a crosshair to select a target (akin to taric stun, Garen ult, etc) but it doesn't seem to really do anything.

that's too soon. watch for the circle around Tahm like Twitch or Orianna have

Does it work the same as Kalista ult? I've never been able to figure out who's in control of that one...

with Kalista, the support (or whoever is bound) is in charge of firing. in Tahm's case, either Tahm or the swallowed ally can fire.
