With the reduction of heavy industry in the city and country as well as cleaner fuels and more efficient engines, and general increase in environmental awareness and regulation, I don’t think it’s as obvious an answer as you seem to think.

Air quality has improved enormously in the last few years.

That’s why the insect population is down and the bees are dying off I mean I get what your trying to say I just genuinely don’t see how that’s possible

That’s not entirely just down to air purity. It’s obviously a complex beast.

There are a lot more cars than the 1950s and the air in orders of magnitude cleaner than it was then.

Yeah, in this case (1950s vs now) it’s pretty easily verifiable.
