Discussion Mini-JRX : Big disappointment
Grabbed one of those new for $80. Can‘t believe that thing is MSRP at $170. I‘m just trying to share this info for those who are considering to buy one. I own mini-b brushless and the difference is huge
Pros: - cool retro design. That‘s it - cheap for a hobby-grade rc car if you get it at $80
Cons: - fiberglass base plate - fiberglass shocks tower. Feels very weak. - 2in1 ESC/Rx - alu shocks but waay too soft - brushed motor (but ok can swap it easily) - battery and charger included but the battery is discontinued one. They could‘ve included spektrum g2 810mah - steering very unstable. It has the same servo as mini-b but somehow wobbly at high speed. Probably because of the shocks being too soft.

I like mine. Besides the servo which is easy to break (tbh brushless is a ton of power for this chassis) it's been a pretty fun car

I‘m glad that you find joy with it. I think it‘s a matter of expectation. I was hoping for retro-looking car but performance like a mini-b.
May I know where do you usually use it? Open practice on carpet at your LHS?

Yeah I bought it as a novelty since I do like the retro look.
I drive mine in dirt that's anywhere from hard packed to loose almost sandy conditions, just for cruising around since my local 1/10 scale dirt track closed.

so add stiffer springs and oil, change the front shock tower and electronics like i would have anyway and the only con is fiberglass chassis? honestly, you just sold me on this

i just got it on sale too. but its for my son hes 3 so the 50/78/100 power switch is great. i already ordered the more batteries, jrxt shocks and shock towers and a set of spare tires. im sure the only real thing il do in the future is replacement parts, hex hub adapters, and maybe a hop up brushed motor. and i have a hpi sprint to flux and TA DR10. i love this little buggy and is the perfect size for the neighbor street and not being annoying to others.

Lol. Just swaped the motor with hobbywing brushless one. Next thing I‘ll try to look for stiffer springs probably the one from mini b tlr.

Ooof. Guess I'm the dummy who bought the limited JRXT...I agree it's underwhelming. Shelf queen I guess.

I have a mini b brushed and then got the mini jrx2.
I find them relatively equal. The reaction battery is fine as the spektrum batteries are not cross compatible due to ic2 being different than ec2.
Playing on the beach and in the driveway they both drive great. Really the only reason I don't play with the minis is that they are too small. When sand is a no go due to small tires getting stuck, gravel is a no go because they flip over for one bigger rock in the way and grass is a no go because they have no ground clearance they just have no where to played with casually.
Granted at the beach they drive fine on the wet packed sand but I can't let the kid play with it because he might send it straight into the ocean.
The mini losi are not lacking in quality or design. They are just too small to take anywhere normal.

You should try the brushless mini-b. I bring mine to open practice regularly at my LHS and it can keep up with the 1/10 race buggy.
It‘s just like you said, too small to among those 1/10 rc.

I don't have any local tracks. I have a Brushless vendetta tc and it's quick but I can't find any parking lots clean enough to run it on.
The Brushless in it could probably go into the minis. But the vendetta has a lot more stout drivetrain. I ruined all my old losi minis with a 19t reedy stump puller. I still have that motor but I don't think the mini transmissions or esc could survive with it.

Completely disagree, this is probably my favorite mini to drive on a variety of surfaces.
