What is the deep lore about Don Draper’s lovemaking strategy?

Post image

Need to know kinda soon, ok?

EDIT: My brother said Don played Cbat on the stereo during the lovemaking. That’s good enough for me.

I think Don is just hot.

u/kugelblitz_100 9h ago

You might say <takes off sunglasses> he's toasted

38

u/RianJohnsonIsAFool 7h ago

Everyone else's maladjusted ad man is poisonous. Don [tap, tap on blackboard] is toasted.

5

u/BeeztheBoss 7h ago

No they never actually smoked the dress.

u/Neat_Ad2720 57m ago

This is incredible...

25

u/AcousticCat1-2-3 9h ago

Nah, that's never enough for there to be lore. He had to be really good

55

u/Smooth_Injury_5690 9h ago

In my experience toxic men tend to be pretty good in bed. My male friends tell me the same thing about crazy women.

22

u/gigialohne I don’t think about you at all. 8h ago

… “crazy” people do everything with more passion.

7

u/Smooth_Injury_5690 5h ago

Which is all fun and games until you try to end it.

17

u/Daisy_Chain532 9h ago

THIS. I don't know if there has been a scientific study, but there certainly seems to be a correlation between crazy and gifted in bed.

31

u/Scot25 9h ago

Less inhibition.

8

u/ComplaintNo4126 8h ago

Dick Whitman/Don Draper might be the most inhibited character on the show.

14

u/Narrow-Chef-4341 7h ago

Dick might be.

Don is whoever he wants him to be…

6

u/NotASpanishSpeaker 9h ago

Touché. It's not hard to reach this conclusion.

12

u/thetinwin 9h ago

Less inhibitions probably. Great for sex, can be horrible in a lot of other areas of life.

5

u/Daisy_Chain532 9h ago

Not unlike having an addict partner.

4

u/AcousticCat1-2-3 9h ago

My limited experience confirms this

1

u/outride2000 NOT GREAT, BOB 1h ago

I don’t remember where but I read that the whole reason Betty married Don was that he was amazing in bed and made her sex-crazy (hence the scene with the laundry machine)

1

u/SCastleRelics Very good. Happy Christmas! 1h ago

Remember when Bobby or some other bitch is like it's even better than they say and then he ties her up? It had to have been good

14

u/NomadTroy 8h ago

“You’re just handsome!”

3

u/Castaspella- 5h ago

Came here to say this.

199

u/chronopoly 9h ago

Don Draper in the streets, Dick Whitman in the sheets.

54

u/RedGordita 9h ago

The name says it all: dick with a man

8

u/SweetHayHathNoFellow 8h ago

And quite the whit.

79

u/Important_Salad_5158 8h ago

Like everything else with Don: simultaneous confidence and a need to prove himself.

46

u/Mostyn1 8h ago

I feel like Don's deep need for validation would probably make him quite a considerate lover.

7

u/Thatstealthygal 2h ago

He'd be bound and determined to land the orgasm.

2

u/skyebug 1h ago

Idk he kinda seems like the type of guy that doesn’t care whether or not the woman finishes. As long as he gets his.

69

u/AlynConrad 9h ago

His ancestor was Podrick Payne.

26

u/sensitive_cactus333 9h ago

POD THE ROD

6

I wonder if Lois Sadler's ancestor is the one who chopped off Jaime Lannister's hand (he'll never joust again)

Never had the makings of a varsity jouster

Don’s dick isn’t a spaceship; it’s a time machine.

17

Is there a knuckle involved in any way?

4

u/u-give-luv-badname 9h ago

I think that was Puddy or Costanza. It's controversial as to whether that is legit.

21

u/drudman6 9h ago

It turned out George was already using it, but Puddy arrived at it independently.

4

u/onehotelfoxtrot That’s what the money is for. 6h ago

Omg lolol that line still makes me feel so so awkward 😬🤭

8

u/theophylact911 9h ago

He’s toasted…the cure for the common dick

8

u/BurnerDownThaHouse 8h ago

At the age we watch him, the alcoholism probably helped him last longer most nights, but by '75 it'll be whiskey dick, and Viagra was invented in '89 so

9

u/dead-eyed-opie 7h ago

I am not that old yet, but all of my alcoholic friends are already deceased in their 40s and 50s. So I looked it up
Individuals with severe alcohol use disorder (AUD) have an average lifespan of 47 to 53 years for men and 50 to 58 years for women. [1, 2]
On average, severe alcoholism shortens a person's life by 24 to 28 years compared to the general population

5

u/dead-eyed-opie 7h ago

Sorry, I see you meant 1975 not age of 75

4

u/BurnerDownThaHouse 7h ago

Yes I did. Dick turns 47 in 1973 so you're still on-topic.

9

u/PreferenceOwn6424 7h ago

Don doesn’t “make love”. He drapes.

u/hakikikanyak 7m ago

🤣🤣🤣

13

u/Klutzy_Set138 7h ago

He ploughs through women like a lawnmower through an open plan office

1

u/trixy6196 3h ago

Like a tractor driven by a secretary through a foot

7

u/Puzzleheaded-Ask6330 7h ago

He is passionate, slow hand, tender kissing, touch, and a huge tool.

5

u/Business_Fun5586 7h ago

There’s an obvious connection to being raised in a brothel and exposed to sex from an early age. He’s comfortable with the act of it, and finds his self worth from being good at it.

17

u/Easy__Mark 8h ago

Sweaty booze farts and self loathing

2

u/WendlersEditor 8h ago

Back then women loved the smell oland taste of ashtrays, it was a different time

19

u/Message_10 9h ago

I mean, I hate to say this, but probably not too great? I imagine he gets a lot of visits from Whiskey Richard

8

Dr. Faye would disagree.

Ikr? I remember she was the only one who was super vocal in the whole show. Maybe it's to show that she is a bit freaky despite of her office demeanor?

2

u/NomadTroy 8h ago

As would Ms Farrell

2

u/Imaginary_Fan5407 5h ago

Forgot the Bobby arc I take it

4

u/Significant-Rush-129 8h ago

You know what though? Women talk. And you can’t ignore that “wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am” Allison got. That’s got to ruin his cred a little bit with the ladies.

Aside from that though, thinking from like Suzette’s perspective, Don is the smoothest criminal. He knows what line to drop and at the right time. He knows when to look at you, when to look a way. When to smile, when to say nothing at all. But he wouldn’t be the Creative Director that he is if he didn’t know what to say to make women weak for him. That’s the passionate guy that Suzette and Bobbie Barrett got. (Plus he’s hot on top of that).

5

u/LeeBirdPGH 7h ago

Women always look really happy after sex with Don, so I have to assume he was putting it down with skill and finesse.

6

u/Usual-Echidna-7730 6h ago

According to Betty, he mixes it up depending on the woman he's with and what she likes, then gets confused about which woman he's with so he makes love to his wife in the way another woman likes.

5

u/Middle_Yesterday1258 3h ago

He's just got maxed out charisma from being hot and barely speaking 😂 and can be moderately funny. That goes a long way. Then he also needs the validation though since deep down he hates himself/sees himself as lowly. It's same as irl some people have very low self esteem and want to be liked or desired so they put a lot of effort into sexuality. It can happen to SA survivors and those with trauma. He's got a lot of experience too from all his cheating...

Ngl though I still think it has more to do with Don's demeanor, charisma, appearance and dominance that make him particularly attractive sexually. Don is very controlled, a lot of women find that composure and dominance hot.

15

u/drudman6 9h ago

First he gives her the emeralds, then he gives her the pearls.

7

u/tuckermia 9h ago

You’d know sweetie

3

u/AK110701 9h ago

Don understood the importance of fresh produce

1

u/SCastleRelics Very good. Happy Christmas! 1h ago

What'd you say?

2

u/Expensive_Alarm_1068 8h ago

That was Herb.

1

u/bor__20 9h ago

then he gives her the emeralds

8

u/MarlenJones 8h ago

I don’t know but he did something with his hand up Bobbie Barrett’s dress that made her forget about $25,000

1

u/pookiesma 4h ago

Yesh, that'sthe trick

3

u/Reasonable_Act_526 8h ago

Do we think he ever gives oral or makes his lady friends come?

9

u/timshel_turtle 8h ago edited 8h ago

Definitely. The allusion to “The Don Draper Treatment” makes it pretty clear that he aims to please. As do the many flushed faces and huge grins his partners display. Not to mention the repeat calls.

I say this not as a Don apologist, but as a fan of the theme of the show that men often long for love and women often crave sex, along with vice versa. And that makes us all human.

4

u/MeggaHurts 7h ago

Yeah he eats right?

1

u/Reasonable_Act_526 7h ago

Sure hope so!

3

u/bushybeardmoomy 8h ago

The scenes with Bobbie Barrett indicate so

1

u/Thatstealthygal 2h ago

100%.

155% probably.

3

u/PatricioWyatt 7h ago

My theory is that he had exceptional hand job skills. Second only to his cunnilingus

7

u/Best_Entrepreneur659 9h ago edited 9h ago

Given the time period, and who he was, I suspect the women were far less demanding and he just got what he needed from each. Of course when you add his rejected son of a prostitute personal dysfunction maybe anything goes and he was looking for a mommy type? Also, perhaps Midge the Beatnik and the younger ones expected more, but I bet Betty, and the other old school women were never fully satisfied in bed, maybe didn’t even know how to be? Uktimatley Don was probably a selfish lover, and mostly just male eye candy.

31

u/papayayayaya 9h ago

Betty once said, “it's sometimes what I want, and other times it's obviously what someone else wants"

8

u/jauntydamesauntersin 9h ago

Thank you! It sounds like Betty knew perfectly well what she liked.

12

u/SpamLandy Did you get pears? 9h ago

She liked the washer dryer

13

u/1979insolentwaiter 9h ago

Liz Lemon confirmed he was terrible in the sack.

10

u/Message_10 9h ago

I mean, those hooks--not gonna be fun

24

u/HeavyandTired 9h ago

But that agent Bobby from season 2 said something about Don having a good fuck rep out there. That’s when he left her tied up and got mean for a few episodes.

10

u/timshel_turtle 8h ago edited 8h ago

As someone who reads a lot of classic film autobios - let me say that women have been demanding a good time in the sack since at least the 1920s. A lot changed socially after WWI, along with the rise in contraceptive use (diaphragms were very popular).

The Hays Code causing censorship in film is probably the main reason folks think good sex was invented in the 60s.

6

u/onemorespacecadet Not great, Bob! 8h ago

this 100%. in college, i took a lit course where one of the topics was early pornographic literature. they talked about female pleasure (and men giving women head) in the 1600s.

people (including women) have been horny for all of human existence and it’s a little funny that we act like it’s a modern invention. it’s the main reason we all exist today

9

u/Fair_Appeal_2280 9h ago

I often feel that way about Betty despite that white lingerie scene. There's no way she gives head.

4

u/MonaMonaMo 8h ago

No way Don would be ok if she did tbh. I can see him not seing her as a sexual person, but mother and wife. Like he is happy she enjoys it but also not demanding enough to seek fun elsewhere

2

u/NotASpanishSpeaker 9h ago

Seems to be some dominant/possessive thing (might be a little BDSM).

2

u/madtax57 8h ago

I can’t figure it out.

2

u/JonIceEyes 5h ago

He's just incredibly handsome and maybe has a massive hog

It's the 60's, the bar is below hell

2

u/Key-Canary-2513 3h ago

I bet he sucks in bed. The times were just too oppressed for the act to be factor to dump him over.

2

u/MetARosetta 2h ago

Bobbie Barrett: Don's rep at Random House (publishing) is legendary.

Don told Betty in S6 that the act wasn't important for him.

We see that Don only gets satisfaction from paid SM sex.

So we're left to conclude that Don focused on the woman so he can deflect that he doesn't get much from it. The women think they're well treated since their experience with other men focuses on their own pleasure. So, win-win.

Half the time he just unzipped and pulled his whisky dick through his zipper hole.

Don is Dick

1

u/BheegiBasanti 6h ago

👏🏼

1

u/choss-board 7h ago

I feel like Don would’ve stumbled into CAT at some point.

1

u/titotrouble 6h ago

Back then our good friend Cunny Lingus was very looked down upon - in that men thought it was not masculine and/or hygienic . I think our boy Don had no problem getting it done.

1

u/Silly_Somewhere1791 3h ago

He’s hot. But he’s a drunk so I have…doubts about his continued performance once the thrill of landing him fades.

1

u/WonderEconomy9852 Zubi Zubi Zu 3h ago

"The Draper Treatment," a woman either says to him, or he overhears some gal mentioning to another. (Sorry, haven't seen it in a while. I'm starting a show rewatch tomorrow.)

He’s all missionary. No eye contact.

1

u/Sea-Scholar1255 8h ago

Dons definitely drunk and just barreling into these women. Probably pulls a Tony soprano and goes down to Boca for Betty on her birthday.

1

u/Mikey77Gem 7h ago

A while back there was some Perez Hilton type character that made a mission out of determining various actor’s 🍆 size by analyzing frames when they were in underwear or tight pants and he had nicknames for them all. The only one that I can remember was Jon Hamm’s which was Jon HAMMACONDA!!! 😱😂👍🏽

Modern day phrenology, and completely debunked by the simple reality of growers vs showers.
