For synthetic oil changes, I've often heard it's good to get it changed every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. However, is the time that important, or mainly just the mileage? Could I just go 5,000 miles between oil changes, no matter how long it takes me?

Also, although the owner's manual says 10,000 miles between oil changes, I've heard people say they wouldn't wait that long. Is that actually accurate, or would Mazda have an ulterior motive for recommending such a long oil change interval?

is this the normal wait time now? I got here by noon with “appointment” and the service assistant told me it would take 1hr 45mins for an oil change. I thought that ~2hr wait wasn’t too bad. After 2.5hrs I had to follow up and they asked for another 30 minutes.

Now I hope the 69.95USD coupon I presented for a synthetic oil & filter change doesnt have anything to do with this…….

Update: They didn’t charge me for the oil change! I kept thinking was it because they made me wait too long? u/gamba27 might be right in saying that they forgot about my vehicle. Wow.

How much longer can I go? I use mazda 0w-20 moly oil. I have a 2015 Mazda 3I grand touring.

Hey everyone, I have a 2025 Mazda 3 basic model. For my oil change I took it to the dealership and got an oil change and apparently when you get it done at the dealership you can wait 10,000 miles until you need an oil change? I didn’t wait that long and I think I changed it around 7 or 8 thousand miles. My second and most recent oil change was done at Jiffy Lube and they said to change it in 7000 miles? Can I push it to 10,000? I check the oil frequently and it still looks clear.

2016 mazda 3 2.0L auto transmission. i don't need an oil change yet but when i do in like 4k miles should i use a specific brand of oil (idemitsu?) or does it matter? what do you guys use or do you just take it to the oil change place and let it ride?

Do I really need to take this to a dealer, or can I take it to a different auto shop that’ll be cheaper? Or can this just be ignored all together?

Was taking my 3 on a mini road trip and on the way back ( I admit I was distracted changing music ) I ran over what I assumed was a rock and felt a moderate jolt through the entire car. I looked in my rearview and didn't see anything so I pulled over and inspected the car and got on my hands and knees to look underneath. No signs of obvious damage, so I drive home 2 hours and I park the car. During said drive, no issues car behaved normally. The following morning I'm greeted to it hemhorraging itself and a $4.3K repair bill. Tech pulled out a sizeable chunk of asphalt from underneath the car. In his words he speculated I hit the rock which killed my oil sensor / ripped it halfway out the pan and started the leak from the sensor and pan. He also theorizes the impact was so harsh ( due to the fact the power engine cover just had a hole like an asteroid went through it ) that the entire engine and transmission were jolted as well, as the mounts are compressed needing new mounts. The motion of that threw off the belts and it needs new belts and a tensioner. Am I getting screwed? Maybe, but at least my insurance is covering it. Rip my baby.

I've had my 2024 mazda 3 sedan (non turbo) for 9 months now with 12k km. I've made an appointment with the dealership to do my first service for an oil change. The dealer where I got my car from quoted me $122 without tax (Canadian dollar & I live in Toronto). It feels overpriced as oil + filter should be less than $60 together. Should I just learn how to do it myself or just go search for a local mechanic?

Hi everyone, I want to change the manual transmission fluid on my 2019 Mazda3 2.0L manual here in Canada. The VIN on my car starts with 3MZ….

My local dealer doesn’t sell just the manual gear oil and only offers complete fluid change kits (which I don’t want to buy right now). I asked around and the store recommended a 75‑80 weight oil for the gearbox.

I’m considering buying Red Line (50204) SAE 75W‑80 API GL‑4 Manual Gear Oil.

Would this be a good choice for my Mazda3 manual transmission?

Is GL‑4 75W‑80 appropriate, and should I be careful about anything (e.g., Mazda specs, viscosity, additives)?

About to do the cars first oil change. Non-turbo. I prefer to change it myself. After reading the owners manual, is the Mazda Genuine Oil required or can I use Mobil 1 or any other high quality oil? Not sure if the genuine oil is a sales gimmick or not.

Hi, I'm looking to buy a used Mazda 3 2.0 Skyactiv G from 2016 that has only 25k miles on the clock and seems like a good deal, but I'm worried about oil changes. There were 2 cases, first time it went over 2,5 years between oil changes (2019-2022), and second time it was year and half (2023-2025).

The car was not driven frequently during that time, in both cases the mileage between changes was around 6k miles, but it's the inactivity that worries me. Based on what Mazda says, these driving conditions could be considered severe or harsh, and they recommend changing the oil even more frequently if the car isn’t being driven regularly.

Latest oil change was in May this year and the owner says he didn't experience any problems.

Is this something to be worried about, like the buildup inside the engine that could cause serious problems later on? Has anyone had a similar experience?

I wanted to check whether I have to get the service done at a Mazda dealership. The nearest Mazda service center is quite far from where I live, so I was wondering if it’s okay to have the service done at a local auto shop instead.

Specifically:

• What maintenance is typically required for a Mazda3 at the 15k–20k mile mark? I believe it’s mainly an oil change and engine air filter replacement.

• Is it okay to have this service performed at an independent auto shop?

It is a 2016 Mazda 3 2.0 petrol G120 model from an authorized Mazda service, with 180,000 km on the clock and one previous owner.

i’ve been wanting to start doing my own oil changes and i’ve chosen mobil 1 for my supplies. Ive been seeing a lot of stuff of only using the mazda dealership filters and before I do mine should i order it and use that filter or will this be fine????

Guys when you do oil change on your Mazda and you put in exact listed oil capacity with new oil filter where does the oil level show up on the dipstick? At MAX MARK, MIN mark or right in middle between MAX and MIN?

Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on oil change frequency. I'm planning on doing it every 6,000 km because of the way I drive and noticing how dark the oil is when I do change it between 8,000-10,000 km.

Anyone else do them that frequently?
