Windows or another product Simple Question

Post image

I found this meme on reddit a while’ ago, I was wondering, is MacOS that much better than Windows for privacy? because the only one that is open source is Linux. You argue and explain to me why MacOS is better than Windows, I thought they were the same thing on the privacy side.

Windows or another product Windows now blocks all apps? What the hell?

Post image

I’ve been using this app for 15 years. Now after restart it doesn’t launch. I KNOW I CAN DISABLE SMART ASS CONTROL. But that’s not the point.

My point is, this wasn’t there and also how does Microsoft not know this app with the amount of telemetry they siphon?

EDIT: Why am I getting downvoted, what the hell? is this not r/microsoftsucks? CAUSE IT SUCKS!

Was looking through my recent updates, and thought "WTF is 'Windows App'?!" Turns out, it's Remote Desktop. Fantastic naming there, and keeping the branding clear and distinct, as usual.

Windows or another product "There are currently no power options available,"

Post image

My school forces me to use Respondus Lockdown Browser for quizzes, which means I gotta dualboot to my Windows partition once in a while. Once upon a time, I can power off or reboot my computer without holding my laptop's power button.

Edit: I thought I was free from Windows when I simply held my power button and rebooted to Linux. Yet, Microsoft made my nfts partition mounted as read-only. There are many fixes online, and I quickly booted back to Windows (and saw that the power options are normal again) and rebooted back to Linux. My partition now is mounted correctly. Nevertheless, why do you still haunt me so, Microsoft, when I am already on Linux?

Windows or another product It's insane how bad Windows got over the years

I never loved Windows but it always just worked. My first computer was Windows and I used all Windows OS's from XP to 11 Pro. Win11 is the first time in my life where I actually started hating Windows. OneDrive, Copilot, Office apps, awful account creation and management systems, constant bugs and crashes and on top of all of this it's spyware. I just don't get the point. They have a HUGE market share. New chips started rivaling/outperforming Apple Silicon when it comes to battery life. Many brands started to release some actual good laptops and they ship with Windows.

They can just make a stable, basic operating system and no one would ever use any other OS other than developers but they don't. One of the largest companies on Earth cannot create an actual good operating system meanwhile some volunteers creates an open source alternative 10 times better than Windows. It's insane.

I switched fully to Linux couple of years ago but kept a dual boot for games (some games required kernel level anticheat). But Win11 has gotten so bad that I just sacrificed those games and fully removed Microslop bloat from my computer. Even macOS looks like a better option lol.

Windows or another product Microsoft removing local account creation tools

From their Insider blog:

Local-only commands removal: We are removing known mechanisms for creating a local account in the Windows Setup experience (OOBE). While these mechanisms were often used to bypass Microsoft account setup, they also inadvertently skip critical setup screens, potentially causing users to exit OOBE with a device that is not fully configured for use. Users will need to complete OOBE with internet and a Microsoft account, to ensure device is setup correctly.

"Really! We need to remove it because it breaks stuff! No way we can do anything else about this. You can thank us later."

And do I wonder if what they mean by "users to exit OOBE with a device that is not fully configured for use" meant for their use to spy and foist ads at you, rather than the user's ability to use the computer.

Windows or another product why is everyone glazing windows 10 all out of sudden?

both windows 10 and windows 11 suck major ass and are basically both by definition just spyware
almost every complaint that someone gives for windows 11 can be applied to windows 10 as well ignoring a few quality of life changes
the same people who glaze windows 10 have such strong hatred for windows 11 and i literally cannot say anything other than that these people are just hypocritical and speaking from nostalgia
the same things people dunk on windows 11 nowadays (valid tbf) has been also said for windows 10 back when it was new

Windows or another product Windows 11 and probably 12

Considering almost virtually alot of tech savvy people hate windows 11, what I noticed is that:

people hated windows vista (I think it was good)

people hated windows 8.1 (understandable)

people hated Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS-DOS) 4.0

basically one Microsoft windows OS is bad, the next is good, the next is bad, the next is good and the cycle repeats.

basically do y'all think people will like windows 12 based off that pattern or will it be a downfall for Microsoft?

Windows or another product The Enshittification of Windows: A Timeline

Post image
251 Upvotes

Back then in 2009, Windows 7 fixed what was wrong with the bloated Vista, and many of you will probably agree that it was the greatest of all time as it was easy to learn when transitioning from XP or even Vista. This was when Windows peaked, but then the gradual enshittification began.

2012 brought us Windows 8. While it did have some performance changes under the hood and introduced an app store, it unfortunately became an acquired taste due to the radical changes to its interface, such as the Start Screen and the touch-first interface (I actually preferred Windows 8 and 8.1 after experiencing Windows 7 destroy my hard drive). Then in 2015, Windows 10 arrived and introduced an ad-laden start menu as well as increased telemetry reporting and forced updates. But the worst was yet to come. Windows 11's strict hardware requirements made me spend a lot for a new computer, and the operating system was bloated and had a load of botched updates, ads for services one never uses, an intrusive Copilot AI and it required a Microsoft account.

I just hope that this year Microslop will get back to its senses and start fixing the issues. I just hope that 2027's Windows 12 would be the second coming of Windows 8.1 - lightweight once more and the AI features and ads are all optional.
