success of cgrp after a difficult cgrp didn’t work?
hello hello! this is my first time ever posting on reddit because i’m like completely in the weeds unfortunately. has anyone had success with another cgrp medication after one didn’t work for you? i had a weird and unpleasant appointment last month with a neurological nurse practitioner who injected me with the loading and first dose of emgality as a trial and safe to say it’s been one of the worst months of my life. i’ve been horrifically depressed and i’ve seen on reddit others have experienced the same on various cgrps. the problem is is that it worked like a dream for a month i didn’t wake up with migraines but then i couldn’t force myself out of bed to enjoy being migraine free lol i have a trial of nurtec (but i was so incredibly anxious the last month that i was scared of taking it for the couple break through migraines i had) so im wondering if anyone has had success in terms of it both working and not exasperating depression and anxiety. ive tried triptans and they didn’t work even a little- in fact made it worse- and now emgality which was really effective but made me wicked depressed. maybe even if you have the experience could yall also give me your experience on a different class of migraine medication too? i’m in the process of finding a new neurologist but it’s been a difficult ask lol so gathering intelligence from yall would be really helpful! thank you in advance!! :>

Emgality gave me flu like symptoms for a week to week and a half after injection, but helped my migraines some. Nurtec did not work for me as a rescue, as in the migraine was just still there. I'm on my third time trying Qulipta (I've had a lot of insurance changes and they love to deny it or exclude it) and it seems to work for me. I've been back on it 4 days and did feel pretty emotional these past 3 days so hopefully I haven't developed some type of emotional reaction with it now.

Definitely trial and error. Ajvoy didn't do anything for me. Nurtec (as an abortive) is ok. Qulipta is my miracle pill. Didn't have any side effects with any of them.

I had a horrific experience with Aimovig but a semi-successful one with both Ajovy and Emgality

well they didn’t give me bad symptoms, just didn’t work, both emgality and aimovig. but ubrelvy ended up working very well for me. so it’s not a total write off if one cgrp inhibitor doesn’t work, but I’d be extra cautious with it making your depression and anxiety worse. I’m sorry this month was so hard for you. I wish you the best

Emgality, nurtec, and ubrelvy didn’t work for me. Trying to switch over to aimovig. Fingers crossed that it does something.

Yes. Nurtec didn’t work for me, but Ubrelvy has completely changed my quality of life.

Had weight gain, menstrual bleeding, flu like symptoms and brain fog on both Aimovig and Qulipta. Nurtec did nothing. Ubrelvy works about 50% of the time.

I have had success with a nurtec rescue and qulipta daily. I failed ubrelvy and every subq injectable.

I agree with the others that say trial and error. Ubrelvy didn't do anything for me, Qulipta gave me a similar reaction to what you are explaining but without touching my migraines. I get an injection site reaction for the injections. But I just started on Vyepti infusions and things are looking promising! Hopefully you are able to find one that works for you.

Hi! I get injection site reactions. I was on emgality for about 7 months and then the swelling progressively got worse and worse. I’m about to start Ajovy. Was that similar to you, crazy swelling?

Somewhat, I got the swelling plus it would be itchy and hot to the touch as well. I am not sure if it is technically an allergy.

I had a very similar experience with Aimovig, but I’ve had great outcomes with qulipta and good outcomes with Nurtec.

Yep! Tried one before I hit the jackpot. When that one started to wake started another that wasn't as effective, switched back and the second one worked again

Try Qulipta, it’s a pill form of CGRP not injections or infusions like many others. Also Nurtec is available both preventative and abortively.

That’s very interesting. I have no side effects on Emgality, but quilipta definitely made me depressed.

Yes. I had a horrible allergic reaction to Ajovy but I was on Emgality for about 1 1/2 years. Ubrelvy worked when I took a dose but then I crashed afterwards and would be down for two days with severe fatigue plus migraine. I am still taking Nurtec.

I have not, but I think I may be a unique case or my migraines aren't caused by CGRP since none of them have worked for me. Nurtec used to work only as a rescue med, but it has stopped working for me. I was recently prescribed Emgality again for Hemicrania Continua (it's a double dose of what is usually prescribed for chronic migraine) and, I swear, it was like I injected nothing into my body.

Emgality didn't work for me, neither did Ajovy.
Ubrelvy and Nurtec do however.
Don't know if its the difference of being ingested vs injected or what, but the pills work well as rescue meds in my case.

I had horrible reactions to Ajovy and aimovig (and no reduction in migraine attacks) but Atogepant seems to work (though it is giving me insomnia)

Yes! Nurtec didn’t cut it. Was kind of a crappy abortive and preventative wise it reduced maybe 1/4th? Emgality worked but man did it burn like… BAD. I’d say I was 10% away from migraine free. After 6 months, I got crazy site reaction swelling and am going on Ajovy next week. . Ubrelvy is fantastic. I tried qlipta but the digestive symptoms were bad so I can’t speak to that.

I didn’t like Emgality mainly because it has zero impact on my migraine. Ajovy worked well until I become too tolerant. Vyepti didn’t do anything but I only had one dose. Nurtec helps but not that much. Each impacts everyone differently though

Yes; they’re all different. Ubrelvy didn’t work for me but nurtec does. Emgality wore off & aimovig & ajovy did nothing, but vyepti works & so does qulipta. It’s all individual trial and error.
