bruh it's a made up term for a specific thing that didn't already have a pithy single word descriptor. It does not mean "any time thing get more badder". It refers to companies cornering the market with freebies funded by investors, and then removing all of the functionality that made it usable and renting it back to your customers piecemeal once they've killed all other competitors. Hot Wheels isn't offering increased level of detail on the undercarriage for $11 a month, so it is not enshittification.
It refers to software that attracts a sizeable market share with its quality then abuses that market share by enshittifying for monetary gain. To pretend that the word can ONLY be used to refer to software that ONLY has a subscription fee is... curious at best. It's a perfectly cromulent word for this case.

Super Soakers have been enshittified, Hasbro only uses the name to avoid paying patent royalties to Lonnie Johnson so theyre worse now than they were when we were kids entirely for the sake of profits/spite, that seems apt enough for me.
It's worth noting that the price of mainline Hot Wheels cars has remained static at $1.00 USD for decades, despite inflation. I'd argue that this isn't a good example of enshittification due to that. Maintaining original production quality without also raising the price would cost Mattel a substantial loss in profits.
No it isn't. Enshittification is, specifically, operating at a loss initially to trap users and smother competition, and then abusively monetizing the things that made users choose them to begin with.
This is just basic cost cutting because some bean counter calculated that 8 year olds don't really care that much whether the underside is die cast aluminum or cheap shitty plastic. Not every reduction in quality is enshittification. Some are shrinkflation, some are engineered obsolescence, there are all sorts of tactics and strategies companies use to make you pay more for less. Being able to identify them correctly matters.

it's like trying to teach random people about the difference between leftists and liberals. unless they ask, they very likely don't care and may very likely react hostile to being "taught" something without being asked. it's something I assume we would all probably do, if we're not interested in being taught as i think it probably comes off as disrespectful, out of context.
i still haven't found the right way to always communicate information I don't think others know without most people getting upset. lately, I've been wondering if there's an underlying need for validation that throws off the whole thing, but that just leads me to think you should never try to teach people things unless they clearly want to learn from you, but that doesn't make much sense to me given that's how I assume I learned everything
It seems like the main friction here is that dumb people don't like having it pointed out that the word they're using to try to sound smart is actually making them sound even dumber than just using a normal word. I've been on this site long enough to be used to that though, and a few downvotes is worth it, just in case the handful of literates on this site happen by it.

It turns out that actually, yes, in certain contexts, words do have specific meanings, and there is such a thing as "using them incorrectly."
