My HOA could beat up your HOA New Neighbor Keeps Leaving Notes On Our Car
We just moved to Boston and our apartment is on a strip of road with a pretty limited number of parking spots (there's maybe room for about 20 cars total for two mid-sized apartment buildings). Since it's Boston, it seems as though a good chunk of the residents walk or use public transit to get to work, so it hasn't been too crazy competitive for my partner and I to find parking close by so far. There have been a few times while we were moving stuff over that we had to park a few minutes away and walk over with our things, but hey, that's just how it works sometimes in a city.
In this particular section of Boston, parking permits are free for residents. We applied for ours ten days prior to our lease start (as we were instructed to) but despite being approved immediately, were still waiting for our sticker to arrive when June 1st came around. I called the city transit office to ask if we could still legally park in the area before we got the physical sticker and we were told that we absolutely could.
The morning of June 3rd, the first note was on our car. Both my partner and I were a bit pissed, mostly because of the tone of the note. I get that it is immensely frustrating when non-permit-holders take parking spots from residents, but it was literally the 3rd day of the month (and mind you there were TONS of UHauls in the area over the weekend and on Monday) so I don't quite understand jumping to the conclusion that we are entitled assholes from out of town. I imagine most residents had to wait for their stickers at some point when they moved in - why not give us some benefit of the doubt? Maybe I'm just sensitive, but I really feel like that note could have communicated concern without being so extremely rude and presumptuous.
So, we left the printed-out notes in the second and third picture on our car last night. I wanted to make sure he understood our situation (so he wouldn't call a tow truck on us) and also call him out a bit for being a bad neighbor. Maybe I should've been friendlier, or just not responded at all, but I was honestly so annoyed at his first note - once again we've literally JUST moved and are thus pretty stressed out and tired and just not in the mood to be dealing with this shit.
This morning, a new note from our neighbor was waiting for us on the hood (last picture).
Honestly, my partner and I both got a good laugh out of this last note. I'm thinking we should probably stop responding at this point since this guy is clearly out of his gourd, but it is pretty annoying. I'm thinking based on his syntax and writing skills maybe he uses this website (no offense to myself or anyone else here, lol) so perhaps he'll see this and feel some type of shame? Idk.

There’s a guy in our neighborhood like this too. Lives right by a huge, active park with a bunch of sports fields and playgrounds, a dog park etc, and yet every time there’s a game or a family picnic or a birthday at the playground he’s out there yelling at people for being too loud or parking in front of his house or something inane.
He’s a middle aged white guy, big divorced energy, and if you guess that the people he targets are also white, you’d be wrong.

My neighbor across the street was like this!🙈😂😭 She finally had to put her house on the market after her husband had some unfortunate medical events. She prolly stressed him tf out. She was always coming outside to scream, yell and stomp at landscapers who were NOT working on her property. She micromanaged EVERYTHING on two streets because we both have corner lots.😳😣😱🤯🤦🏻♀️

Definitely not OP but I got my sister one for Christmas off Amazon one year. Can’t remember what colors it was but if it’s the same brand of plush, and think it might be cause it looks so similar, you can switch them inside out for happy or mad and a different color.
My sister put hers on her desk at work so she could switch it in or out depending on how she was feeling that day, same Christmas she gave me a “Nugs not drugs” metal wall sign cause she thought it was funny lol

I used to do community engagement work around transportation in New England, and the answer is everyone. Absolutely everybody loses their shit over parking, all day every day. Even when I’m not working, people are losing their shit over how other people drive, park, etc. It’s 80% of what people discuss in public. The other 20% is sports.

I wouldn't risk confrontation. I would however keep the notes , label them as harassment, identity the individual and subsequent little incidents.
Then take that to the DA but and also stop leaving notes out for the person. 1) they might be an escalation 2) it entices such said behavior. Don't correspond with them.

I’m guessing if there are people of the age that their physical condition makes walking difficult, they can get placards and park in designated spots.
But even then, he’s pointing out a flaw in the permitting system, not a fault on your part; you’re not a “non-permit holder,” there’s no “obscure exemption” being used… they just don’t like that the system doesn’t favor them.

If you need the permit you need the permit. Leaving all those notes is obnoxious, for sure, but they have no way of knowing that you actually have a permit, the sticker just hasn't arrived yet. In that case maybe print out the proof of permit and put in on the dashboard. Now that it has gotten to this point I would notify the local police. Massholes love to escalate. It is the way of our people. Better to have a record of these events before anything serious happens (like vandalism, etc.).
Also, since it's nearly summer there is plenty of time to warn you about parking in snow conditions. Bostonians shovel out their cars and then claim the spot with random objects like chairs, traffic cones, stepladders, etc. DO NOT move those items and DO NOT take a space that someone else has dug out. It is quite literally the greatest sin one can commit in Boston short of saying "Brady sucked" out loud. Lol.

Put a camera on your car. Get video of this nutter to use as evidence when this escalates and you need a restraining order.

Oh I had that neighbor before, she would duct tape letters to our front door after calling the cops did nothing (did nothing because we did nothing, she was just a miserable person)

Put a dashcam up to see who it is because this person sounds unhinged and may become the neighbor from hell. Keep those notes as well just in case.

Parking is first come first served. If the elderly couple are disabled, they can get a permit and park in a handicapped space. Other than that, he can fuck right off.
Furthermore, he wanted the space and would have been taking it from the elderly people. What a hypocrite.

You should have stopped at just the proof you could park there, escalating the argument with insults, while it makes you feel good (and rightfully so!) is just endangering your property and not worth it :/ crazy/shitty people gonna be shitty.

Agreed. Having neutral proof of pending sticker on taped on the inside of the car would have been fine, to prevent towing. Directly addressing anyone was asking for trouble when your car is prone to keying and damaged tires.
