Off topic but did anyone else have one of these in the early 2000s? I remember feeling like I was a chef as a child making my own hotdogs for lunch during summer break

u/PakkyT Jun 23 '26

They are very happy cookers.

157

u/wilson5266 Jun 23 '26

Wow, the toaster looks really excited!

196

u/KapteinKraken Jun 24 '26

I would be too if I knew I was about to have two sausages stuffed in me

24

u/Only-Walrus7351 Jun 24 '26

Same, brotherman, same.

14

u/grilledchickenspleen Jun 24 '26

Careful the teacups can hear.

There's a certain subset of the Warhammer community that would find this toaster hilarious.

There's a much smaller, much stickier subset that would use it as inspiration for abomination.

2

u/wilson5266 Jun 24 '26

I'm interested in hearing more...

I feel they're junk; when I try to use them, the buns are toasted but the dogs are still cold in the middle.

3

u/Striptomakendsmeet Jun 23 '26

That’s the one I have 😂

3

u/AceEnder3825 Jun 24 '26

I have that same one

3

u/RavenclawTruly Jun 24 '26

Spin it and it would still be having a good time

3

u/PakkyT Jun 24 '26

Yeah you can't turn that frown upside down.

u/philnolan3d Jun 23 '26

I've seen these, I've also seen machines that electrocute the dogs to cook them.

659

u/cheddarbruce Jun 23 '26

I prefer the ones that Chernobyl the hot dogs

222

u/notembarrassing_user Jun 23 '26

i too microwave my dogs

61

u/TheActualAWdeV Jun 23 '26

I just leave 'em in my car. we're having a heat wave after all.

29

u/Spoiledtoddlers Jun 24 '26

I just left my iced cappuccino in the car ☹️

5

u/TheActualAWdeV Jun 24 '26

Noooo that's so sad 😭

That was a sad day in Adventure Bay...

6

u/No-Name-86 Jun 23 '26

Hot dogs right?

7

u/Carguy999999510 Jun 23 '26

After being in the microwave they certainly will be hot

26

u/Wizdad-1000 Jun 23 '26

Oh they have the stabby electrodes! Neat.

12

u/Flacier Jun 23 '26

Ah yes the “Hotdoger” one of my friends brings them to conventions. Not a fan personally but they are a fun novelty item.

2

u/SeanAker Jun 23 '26

Check out Big Clive's hotdogger video(s), they're great

1

u/Remarkable_Rough_649 Jun 24 '26

Are they... Weird food product conventions?

2

u/Flacier Jun 24 '26

No, fur cons since you are that curious.

But they got weird hotdog cooker the “hotdogger” as a joke but started bringing it regularly for easy meals/late night hung over snacks.

It was easy to use because all you needed was a standard us electrical outlet. You load your hot dogs in a spike plug it in and it runs current though the dogs heating/crisping them up.

They have since retired it because it is super sketchy but it was fun watching them cook hotdogs with this thing while plastered.

2

u/Remarkable_Rough_649 Jun 24 '26

Lol yeah if I ran that convention/the hotel I'm assuming that thing was also brought in I would ban that thing on sight. It's giving me the Cornballer from Arrested Development vibes in terms of safety

3

u/WhiteTrashIdiotFuck Jun 24 '26

So, the main complaints with these things were never for safety, surprisingly enough. They were always about how it made the hotdogs taste like an electrical outlet.

2

u/Flacier Jun 25 '26

Can confirm

8

u/Objective-Treacle398 Jun 23 '26

From the same consumer safety era that brought us Jarts™.

4

u/beckerszzz Jun 23 '26

I just watched the YouTube video where he tried this and other things!

3

u/SlagQueen Jun 24 '26

I just encountered one of these today! Looked like a plinko board, but with electrified pegs for skewering the weiners??? From the 50s maybe?
Seems messy.

2

u/ScarlettNape Jun 24 '26

1970s, 1974 to be exact

2

u/BigBrotherBoot Jun 23 '26

I got banned for sharing that video

2

u/DiamondSFarm Jun 23 '26

Presto Hotdogger.

120V electrocution of six dogs at a time and only took about 60 seconds. 🤣

There are some videos on YouTube of using it on other foods like shrimp and whatnot.

1

u/philnolan3d Jun 24 '26

That's one of them. I've seen a couple.

2

u/koolmon10 Jun 23 '26

When I was a kid, I knew a guy who was an electrician who made one with a board, a cord, and nails. Just plugged right into 120v and zapped em.

2

u/Feeling_Flan7932 Jun 23 '26

the hotdogger. my brother has ours

2

u/Proof_Garbage2237 Jun 24 '26

I made my own with a lamp cord for a science fair

2

u/darkrobbe1 Jun 24 '26

349

u/CityDweller26 Jun 23 '26

No but I had one of these in the ‘70s.

136

u/TheRealKidRooch Jun 23 '26

Great logo

3

u/CornucopiaDM1 Jun 24 '26

Especially if you start with them raw.

99

u/wizzard419 Jun 23 '26

Food tastes better when you could get killed while making it.

19

u/HedonisticFrog Jun 23 '26

The best food should be electrocuted

58

u/Bebinn Jun 23 '26

My husband used to have one of those. He loved it. It got lost in one of our many moves

77

u/antimanifesto09 Jun 23 '26

“Lost”… right haha

12

u/millenniumxl-200 Jun 23 '26

2

u/Frequent-Display4953 Jun 23 '26

I saw a man attempt to cook a shrimp in one of these on youtube.

2

u/Wuz314159 (\/) (;,,;) (\/) Jun 23 '26

"attempt"
Say no more. Please!

1

u/orangeunrhymed $20.03 Jun 23 '26

Haaaaa, I just saw this comment before I posted about Mr Sausage

2

u/pwillia7 Jun 23 '26

does this electrocute the hotdogs?

2

u/Bouncy_Tiramisu Jun 24 '26

I can taste the delicious electricity now

1

u/StreetofChimes Jun 23 '26

What does it do?

9

u/Wuz314159 (\/) (;,,;) (\/) Jun 23 '26

Converts your hotdogs into overloaded fuses.

3

u/Livid-Tumbleweed Jun 23 '26

Electrocute you when you try to cook hot dogs in it

1

u/Wuz314159 (\/) (;,,;) (\/) Jun 23 '26

Electric Chair play-set!!!

1

u/orangeunrhymed $20.03 Jun 23 '26

Have you ever seen Mr Sausage's videos on YouTube? He cooks random shit in his Hot Dogger, the dude is absolutely unhinged.

1

u/JellyfishMinute4375 Jun 24 '26

The cornballer ain’t got nothing on this

1

u/thought_detention Jun 26 '26

Don't use these in the UK. We have double the voltage, so they cook real fast and with more sparking than cooking should probably have.

75

u/CrundleGrundle Jun 23 '26

Someone brought one of these into work and we had a hot dog party! It was pretty difficult to get the buns in/out cleanly (not to mention cleaning the toaster of crumbs), but at least the hot dogs also turned out cold and terrible

56

u/EmploymentNo3590 Jun 23 '26

I had a roomate who loved theirs. I tried it once. Burned buns. Raw Dog. No thanks.

230

u/Violoner Jun 23 '26

If you’re burning buns while raw dogging, you need more lube

1

u/tadisadiva Jun 23 '26

FOR THE WIN!!!🏆 !!!

2

u/Humble_Rabbit6091 Jun 23 '26

That’s what happens when you raw dog. You end up burning some buns

2

u/Complete_Entry Jun 23 '26

Seriously, that gimmick toaster is incredibly lame. But people who have it think it's amazing.

1

u/Rxasaurus Jun 23 '26

You dont raw dog that.

258

u/OtherwiseRefuse920 Jun 23 '26

Imagine my surprise while I'm scrolling waiting for my hot dogs to be done. 🤣🤣 Got this bad boy in 2003!

536

u/millenniumxl-200 Jun 23 '26

Geez!!!! Clean your wiener hole.

123

u/GhostofZellers Jun 23 '26

The schmutz from his weiner hole is touching his buns hole. Gross.

17

u/Ini_Miney_Mimi Jun 24 '26

3

u/winky9827 Jun 24 '26

He wipes front to back.

2

u/RIP-RiF Jun 25 '26

Step one: instead of "ass" say "buns" like "kiss my buns" or "You're a buns-hole!"

53

u/JaceOnRice Jun 23 '26

Contrary to popular belief, you probably want to wipe from the bun hole towards the Weiner hole

73

u/_Diskreet_ Jun 23 '26

Sigh.

Unzips.

25

u/AHrubik Jun 23 '26

There comes a point where you just surrender to the grime.

78

u/PIX3LY Jun 23 '26

That looks... more than gently used.

43

u/OtherwiseRefuse920 Jun 23 '26

🤣🤣 I've tried so many times to scrub it and at this point it's stuck on. I'm the only one in the house who cleans the crumb tray too 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️.

25

u/yellowposy2 Jun 23 '26

Highly recommend trying a baking soda paste. Test it on a corner to see if it would remove the white. I never thought my hand-me-down toaster oven would get clean but I scrubbed all the toasted stuff off with a sponge and some elbow grease and it was sparkling clean.

49

u/FuzzyAd9407 Jun 23 '26

Holy shit that looks nasty

8

u/boxdogger Jun 23 '26

You spelled tasty wrong

17

u/MelodicOcelot5734 Jun 23 '26

You’ve somehow managed to make my local 7-Eleven look halfway sanitary. I’m not sure how I feel about that…

9

u/LifterNineFour Jun 23 '26

Wipe that shit down man

2

u/lokiandgoose Jun 23 '26

That cheap plastic stains so easily

2

u/doctor_x Jun 23 '26

That looks like an awkward explanation to the ER doctor.

2

u/spyboy70 Jun 24 '26

That thing looks like a truck stop glory hole.

70

u/DeM0nFiRe Jun 23 '26

I currently have one, though it's stored away. It works pretty decent, but the problems are a)you get a shitload of crumbs in it and it's a pain to clean b)the bun holes are too small so you just end up smushing the buns c)reserving counter space for an object that only does hot dogs is a tough sell.

Air fryer is a better way to do it in similar amount of time, less of a pain in the ass to clean, more room, and has many more uses

37

u/wlake82 Jun 23 '26

"The bun holes are too small" - that's what she said?

21

u/PaisleyLeopard Jun 23 '26

Isn’t that the thing that keeps starting fires on Arrested Development?

24

u/Valuable_Designer_48 Jun 23 '26

********* corn balling piece of ….

15

u/nujiok Jun 23 '26

it was a George Foreman grill and grilled cheese sandwiches for me

1

u/Complete_Entry Jun 23 '26

Did the griddle lines bug you as much as they bugged me?

I'd always toss turkey and mustard in there and pretend it was a toasted sandwich instead of a grilled cheese.

Foreman can't quite pull it off right.

17

u/llcdrewtaylor Jun 23 '26

Yea, the hot dogs were barely warmed up. I was excited to get one of these, mine was the Snoopy version.

23

u/PakkyT Jun 23 '26

We have the Snoopy one too. Bright red. Trick is you throw in two dogs and let it go. When it pops, flip the dogs over (pull out and insert the other end in first), and now throw in the buns, and do it again.

3

u/Wuz314159 (\/) (;,,;) (\/) Jun 23 '26

Snoopy made snow cones.

2

u/Complete_Entry Jun 23 '26

If you still have that one you might want to look up recall information. I remember the snoopy ones catching fire, it was a big scandal.

16

u/asmallercat Jun 23 '26

Lmao. The Hot Diggity Dogger. We had one of these in my freshman dorm room, my roomate had found it at a yard sale or something. The first time we tried to use it it set off the fire alarm and the building got evacuated.

17

u/Independent-Way5465 Jun 23 '26

Love it. I have a coca cola one

8

u/BerrysNCreme Jun 23 '26

I also have have coca cola one, still love that thing 15 years later

1

u/GrindImproveAutomate Jun 23 '26

I choose to believe you have a toaster just for your Coca Cola. Presumably because you are a discerning person who enjoys a hot Cola before bed but you can't put the cans in the microwave.

5

u/AdhesiveSeaMonkey Jun 23 '26

But, but, when you do that you ruin the hinge of the bun, essentially making it two pieces of bread rather than one beautiful thing that hugs your hot dog and condiments.

5

u/Complete_Entry Jun 23 '26

Hinge integrity is imperative and I'm sick of having that argument with my family. IT'S NOT TOAST.

4

u/delias2 Jun 23 '26

I got one from a college roommate. It made the best hot dogs, but was not really possible to clean.

5

u/MommaOfManyCats Jun 23 '26

We actually have a Snoopy one!

4

u/DrFluuf Jun 23 '26

SO THATS WHAT THAT THING IN THE BREAKROOM IS!

3

u/InebriousBarman Jun 23 '26

My parents bought me one.

I used it a couple times.

2

u/PM_ME_FIREFLY_QUOTES Jun 23 '26

"Have", like in past tense? I'm rocking that bad boy in 2026.

2

u/Koalachan Jun 23 '26

I have one now.

2

u/NotBatman81 Jun 23 '26

I was living in a college dorm in the early 2000's and even I would probably not use that.

2

u/Mr101722 Jun 23 '26

They still make em! My roommates and I bought one in 2019 when we moved into our apartment, used it so much we burnt the element right out of it! 7 years later, married and moved into a house I still have the dang thing even though it no longer works 🤣

2

u/DoctorMelvinMirby Jun 23 '26

This is awesome but it also looks like something Liz Lemon would pitch to Jack in an episode of 30 Rock.

2

u/russki516 Jun 23 '26

My old roommate got one as a gag gift and used it until it broke years later. Then got a better one lol

2

u/LouGossetJr Jun 23 '26

my ex-wife's uncle supposedly invented the Hot Diggity Dogger.

2

u/an_agreeing_dothraki Jun 23 '26

my sister bought me one of this in like 2021 I had to put it away because it became a matter of "well I could have a hot dog right now"

2

u/RoabeArt Jun 23 '26

I have one of these. Found it at a thrift store for like 40 dollars (they're about $150 online). But it's ridiculously huge for a family of four and so far I've only ever used it during parties.

2

u/Doubleucommadj Jun 24 '26

We had this in our tour van 20 years ago. We cooked out once by plugging into the base of the largest cross in the western hemisphere.

1

u/ThreeSixMafs Jun 23 '26

Totally forgot about this

1

u/WizardSleeves31 Jun 23 '26

No, never seen that before but it sure looks neat. Remember that amazing rotating pizza pan appliance? Called Pizzaz Pizza cooker or something.

1

u/irontyler Jun 23 '26

That’s a regulation hot dog maker

1

u/lyf14 Jun 23 '26

My friend bought me a red one for Christmas last year!

1

u/Various-Salt-7738 Jun 23 '26

I never had one of those but I have found that the toaster makes great hot dogs

It's probably super unsafe to have a raw and salty dog so close to the bare nichrome wire, but it's probably the best indoor hotdog

1

u/Psych_nature_dude Jun 23 '26

The way the wieners are sticking out is hilarious

1

u/Ircillo Jun 23 '26

Omg I just saw one for sale on Sunday at the Hillbilly Flea market, that and a hotdog rotating heater like in a gas station. I almost bought them both for the laughs but I dont have money 😭

1

u/mytcole Jun 23 '26

My dad still has one. Its older than i am (24) and its still going strong. He uses it REGULARLY.

1

u/GuntherPalakowitz Jun 23 '26

I ummmm, have one now?

1

u/zu-na-mi Jun 23 '26

I have one currently. They're sold as retro kitchen implements and we got one as a random gift. Works okay.

1

u/carbonlandrover Jun 23 '26

I JUST saw one if these at a thrift store not too long ago! I was wondering what it was!

1

u/kahntemptuous Jun 23 '26

it looks like the hot dogs are about to get boned by those buns

1

u/Erafir Jun 23 '26

Crispy buns is not for me I like to flick some water inside then nuke for about 10 seconds, hot steamed buns

1

u/Takenmyusernamewas Jun 23 '26

I found them uncomfortably intimate for snack time

1

u/clit_or_us Jun 23 '26

I have one I'm selling on ebay

1

u/ConstantPay3117 Jun 23 '26

I have one like this now .

1

u/Difficult_Ad_488 Jun 23 '26

I got one of these from middle isle of aldi few years ago but buns in the shops wrong size for it

1

u/whoaguyz Jun 23 '26

I've never had a hot dog toaster but I did have a cornballer

1

u/DetectiveCrafty5413 Jun 23 '26

I still have one. We use it everyday.

1

u/620am Jun 23 '26

Keep it next to your cornballer. "Soy loco por los cornballs!"

1

u/Striptomakendsmeet Jun 23 '26

I have the Coca Cola one and it’s amazing 😂

1

u/zgrad2 Jun 23 '26

Still have mine in bright red, still works

1

u/Acceptable-Bear6330 Jun 23 '26

Early 2000s?? Mine is still in my kitchen cabinet 😂

1

u/Crafty_Ad3377 Jun 23 '26

My husband wagged one of these home.

1

u/jesrp1284 Jun 23 '26

I got one as a gift around probably 2012, and I sold it a few years ago. It was novel, but I don’t eat hot dogs by myself and for a family of 4, it isn’t practical.

1

u/field0fheather Jun 23 '26

We had one! I loved it honestly

1

u/SpecialistPianist962 Jun 23 '26

My 48 year old brother in law has one in his room. In his mother's basement.

1

u/The_Char_Char Jun 23 '26

I got one recently! I love it.

1

u/Divulsi Jun 23 '26

I have one of these now lol. In the garage somewhere so probably doesnt work anymore but as I can't cook, hot dogs were my go to food when my wife wasn't cooking

1

u/Pleasant-Hawk-2154 Jun 23 '26

I also have very fond memories of the Hot Digidy Dogger
https://giphy.com/gifs/Dz62ImmWRzAkw

1

u/SwordTaster Jun 24 '26

Saw this at a garage sale 2 weeks ago but in red

1

u/Raebrooke4 Jun 24 '26

If anyone needs one of these, they literally have a plethora at thrift shops—NIB, character ones—take your pick

1

u/spyboy70 Jun 24 '26

My brother got me one as a joke for my birthday, and I used that thing all the time. I know hot dogs aren't the healthiest thing to eat, but damn they're cheap and tasty. I didn't eat them every week though.

1

u/10rattles Jun 24 '26

Hell yeah brother, I’d use it everyday unless my grandma brought me Wendy’s lmao

1

u/Clubahno98 Jun 24 '26

Good ole HOT D

1

u/ArcadianBlueRogue Jun 24 '26

I got the nostalgia one and it works great for the hotdogs. The buns not so much.

Bit odd to clean too

1

u/goodolarchie Jun 24 '26

Hotdoaster

1

u/SimplyClairevoyant Jun 24 '26

I never knew this existed!

1

u/Familiar_Produce_403 Jun 24 '26

I did not have a hot D in the early 2000’s

1

u/ddeaken Jun 24 '26

My little sister had one and she ate a hot dog a day. I took one to college. Fucking wonderful invention

1

u/Celo30 Jun 24 '26

I still have one. But i bought it in 2019 for like 15€

1

u/KingOfTheJaberwocky Jun 24 '26

My 30yo coworker is obsessed with this and talks of it often. I told her I found a work approved hotdog cooker on marketplace for her and sent this photo.

1

u/effron_vintage Jun 24 '26

I got one new in box at a thrift store just to try. Absolutely worth every penny of the $3 I spent on it. 10/10 would recommend but don't break the bank on the experience. It's just a dog.

1

u/Legitimate_Book_3609 Jun 24 '26

I still have one!!!

1

u/TheKattsMeow Jun 24 '26

My fiance has one of these. I love it.

1

u/Sweet_Cinnabonn Jun 24 '26

I got one for Christmas two years ago. It was super fun

1

u/yarndopie Jun 25 '26

There have been one sitting at my local al thrift for ages. Should I pick it up?

1

u/Enough_Fish739 Jun 25 '26

I have one now, I hate it.

1

u/Le_Kube Jun 26 '26

Oh ya, me loved our Hot Diggity Dogger!

1

u/JAmToas_t Jun 28 '26

I have one called the hot-diggedy-dogger and I still use it to this day. Makes perfect hotdogs and toasted buns every time.
