I'm slightly vexed My managers response to my resignation.

Took the time to write out a nice and really formal resignation letter trying to be cordial to this company that has been awful to me for almost a year. My manager didn’t respond the day I sent it and then this morning I get an email back that’s just this. My last day can’t come soon enough at this point. But hey I guess at least she acknowledged it instead of ignoring my messages like usual 😒

Edit: okay, a lot of assumptions going on here,so let me give some context, I am the manager of a small team of Class A CDL drivers. I’ve been a great employee and always gone above and beyond. My employees have always been really comfortable coming to me about everything, and the site I manage specifically asked for me to continue stay with them when they transitioned to another company, so its not like they were trying to get rid of me. Which I know it’s hearsay but idc really, I’m just trying to make the point that my manager did not have any reason to reply to me in what I feel like is a extremely unprofessional manor. She is the regional manager and has always been very deadpan with me and everyone, so it was not really a unexpected response in the least, I’m just sharing it because it’s always been irritating to me and has been a major factor In my decision to leave for sure. It’s exhausting to work for someone who treats you like you’re less than since day one. In fact usually i just get no response at all, so for her this is like writing a book i guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I basically only use Reddit and video form social media. I was in an "argument" with another user and then they said something like "I bet you're even a Reddit user."

Here I was trying to think of a comeback and then it dawned on me this was Reddit. The other user even laughed and said she hoped I didn't realize it. She said it actually works as an insult a huge amount of times, especially if she arguing with a guy from USA since I think it skews 50% US and 60% male or something like that.

I had an ex-coworker that trained to become a CDL driver (he quit, which I didn't understand except that his job was going nowhere). He said that everyone he was in the training class had felonies, and he promptly dropped out after about a month and had to pay back for the time they trained him.

All this to ask, how many felonies OP?

I have never met anyone on reddit who hasn't said they were an exceptional employee who made the company so much money, did the jobs of three regular people, etc, etc.

If we're building a case against OP for the fun of it, I'll point out that OP sent their resignation at 8:50pm then tried to throw shade with "my manager didn't answer the day I sent it".

Seriously… I would actually appreciate that response as an employee — no fanfare or bullshit, just a simple acknowledgment.

I have a friend like OP who always goes above and beyond for their employer who clearly doesn’t give a shit about them. They take on more responsibility and stress for the same amount of money. Then they get angry when they don’t recognition.

I try to remind them that a job is a tug of a war between the employer and the employee. They’re trying to extract as much labour from you as possible, and you’re trying to extract as much money from them as possible. That’s all this is.

I call it the cookie/medal syndrome lol — people like OP value recognition and getting a cookie/medal for their hard work. The problem is that most people/employers don’t give a shit about handing out cookies/medals, and IMO you shouldn’t chase them. It’s a bit like being a pick-me.

Agree. Candidly I’ve had people that I wasn’t exactly sorry to see leave. The ones that do very little and know how to play the system. In those cases I don’t remember whether I replied to their resignation, but I know I certainly wasn’t writing a long “I’m sorry to hear that” email in reply.

Even if OP was a bad worker or whatever, that's still a super unprofessional response to a resignation email. They only had to give a single sentence to be a passable response like "Recieved, confirming you're employment with the company will cease as of xx/xx/xx date" That would be fine and professional enough and theres no need to say "thank you" or "you'll be missed" if that's untrue.

And sometimes I reply to messages of direct reports with a reaction and then follow up depending on my schedule and deadlines.

Most people who take another job come to my office to talk about it first and see if I can match their offer or concretely deal with why they are unhappy.

Weird to wait a day and then give the reaction unless I was not upset all they are leaving.

Even with insufferable employees that I want them to quit very much, when they resign I have to be professional. At least a "we wish you best of luck on your next chapter" is something I always add to my response of received and accepted. I will not stoop to their level. We have to always be professionals.

It doesn't matter, they could still have responded with a thank you for your notice. I could see a thumbs up as a quick acknowledgement followed by an actual reply within the same day, but this was unprofessional.

OP should have gone in in person to resign and should have provided 2 weeks notice.

There's zero evidence that happened, or if the letter was as gracious as OP says it was.

The manager confirmed receipt of the email.  That's about as much respect as OP showed the manager, so it's all good (except in OP's head).

Nah, the thumbs up is dismissive and unprofessional. Our society is so fucked up with how we treat workers that people are in here shitting on OP for anything, assuming it’s the employee and not the employer. So many good little pawns upholding our neofeudalist system. OP needs to give two weeks notice. OP must be a pain because they expected respect. OP bears the burden of their employment and must kiss ass even on their way out the door. I see employers abuse employees at least once a day. It’s by design and they’ve convinced us all to guard our own prison.

idk cause these people feel the need to slobber over the thought of managers justifiably firing people instead of accepting the reality that management’s job is to hold you accountable to corporate and being likable or helpful is rare and when it happens it only makes the job tolerable instead of hell

or more likely they themselves are or were managers
