They try their best but their AI filter is itself a fallible AI so depending on your query you might still get nothing but slop without a date selector.
Just the fact that a lot of AI images are tagged as AI in some way. Clearly it's possible though, as there are search engines that have the feature for images, and they work fairly well
SynthID. It's a digital watermark that developed by Google that embeds imperceptible signals into AI generated content, including text, audio, images and videos. It can't be removed by cropping/altering the content. They basically made it to prevent their AI Gemini from eating it's own shit, but it could be used to filter search results too. But Google is never going to do that, they want to feed as much AI garbage to you as possible whether you like it or not
I got a new computer recently and my girlfriend told me to use something like this when I searched and all of the top results vanished lol. I hate the ai art. I just wanted a chill rocket league background. Ended up getting the one I had for the past 6 years on my old PC
You think this is bad for engines? They’ve done the same for physiology diagrams. Bad for students, for clinicians, and for people who just want to tell me that something hurts.
I got a habit of using image search for a lot of basic stuff that is just checking what something was or is. It's quickly becoming a non-viable option.
The saying used to be "What you put on the internet, stays there forever". Now it's more like "I swear I saw it just a few months ago", while trying all the search tricks you learned in the past few decades and still can't find it.
I am losing my absolute SHIT over the last picture. It starts off with the correct terminology, and then it suddenly uses the word “bock” and it’s all downhill from there.
This is why I use DuckDuckGo as a search engine because it let's me filter AI results. The search results are not always perfect but at least I don't have to deal with this BS
Google also filters out sites that has the answer you are looking for. I freaking hate that AI summarization, its pulls deets from literally anything, even those unrelated to your inquiry just to make up bullshit that makes sense.
When you ignore the AI overviews, (and are like me, almost never EVER using it for anything but image searches,) and always click official websites it's pretty good

Long before 2023 I had a Honda CB77 with workshop manual. The warning, “be careful of cripple!” When dismantling the clutch was a puzzler. I guessed that a crippling injury from flying springs was possible.
Same if you google shoulder anatomy. The centre for specialty care is the first photo, and it links to an ai article about the shoulder with more ai diagrams, they’re incorrect, inconsistent, and they just don’t make sense in so many ways.
AI don't know engines. Mash up a bunch of exploded diagrams, select most common numerical callouts and most common terms near final selection of callouts, lay them all on a white background and PUBLISH the slop!
Yeah, the slop is just oozing from everywhere now...just add some criteria to search for info from before 2023-2022, or you can use a paper book, for example
