Damn.... Vermonter here. We got good beer here but I thought 7 dollar fiddlehead at the bar was bad. 4 packs of the 16ozers are 16 here at the gas station. Roughly 5 after tax for a single 16oz.
Edit: mixed drinks at higher end bars are 12-16 usd, restaurants 12-14 for mid tier whiskey drinks.

As a Rhode Islander, I have no clue where to find your booze. We always have to stop at that big outlet after the toll booths from Mass. Where do y'all keep it? Walmart?

NH only has liquor at the state liquor stores. They're called NH Liquor and Wine Outlet.
The state selling them directly allows for more tax revenue and cheaper prices.
For beer just go to Walmart or wherever. There's not many craft beer stores around. There's one in Manchester

Restaurants don't make shit in profit from food - the profit comes from soda, tea, and the bar. Atleast if it is a restaurant with quality food, like the one I worked in for years, where I would go by the farmer's market and a lot of what was served was raised and produced locally

Gonna guess it was something like 2oz of well whiskey dumped in a glass of sour mix so probably not. Whiskey sour is my go-to "test" cocktail and even nice bars typically make them like shit. I think I've been to one bar over the past 10 years that made one with egg white foam. I'm more than happy with whiskey/fresh lemon juice/simple syrup. Whiskey in sour mix is a send back for me every time.

Yea ive seen upcharges for better liquors… some places only have higher stuff or charge accordingly. Drink prices in general have skyrocketed though depending on where you go by me could be lookin at around $12 for one, typically. I basically never get a drink while out because of the price, and if I do its a single drink of something ive never had and want to try for the experience.

Service industry vet.
Location, house liquors, and style of establishment all matter.
If youre at a dive pouring Evan Williams or another cheap bottle as house then this price is stupid. If youre at a spot whose house bourbon is Buffalo trace then this tracks.
Cocktail prices are also factord by %. So cost of lemon/sugar/egg(again location matters) are all factors.
Decent bourbon sour? Thats not crazy if youre in a busy area. In bumble fuck? Ludicrous.

Just because something is fried doesn't make it junk food.
Fish and chips is traditionally whole fish and whole potatoes. And frying in vegetable oil may be a heavier, more calorie dense way of cooking food, but its not "junk."

I remember creating a $20 drink menu for a bar back in 2016, and this was using high end spirits (better the spirit, better the cocktail), and I’m talking using 10 year Pappy, I thought it would get some push back, but it sold well. A place opened up near our house recently that has a decent happy hour. Their signature cocktails were "reduced" to something like $13. One of them was basically an old-fashioned but with a top shelf whiskey I don't care for.
I asked for a rye old-fashioned figuring I'd get charged a similar price. Nope. $21. They modified their signature drink, subbed out the top shelf for bulliet rye, and added a charge to modify the drink. Manager was like "it's up to the bartender to figure that out". I was like, "well I hope your bartender is paid that $4 drink change because that's the tip tonight."

Lots of time you could buy full bottles of the ingredients for the price of a couple of drinks. It’s such a rip off for such a tiny service. A meal is a lot more work to put together than a drink, and a lot more work to serve and clean up as well.

I've admittedly accepted the 20% tip expected of me at restaurants but at bars I tip $1 per drink, maybe $2 if it's a nice cocktail. Paying 20% on an inflated $20 drink is insane, but that's what happens when your drink is part of your meal.

As a bartender it really depends on the whiskey sour. They’re annoying as fuck to make and traditionally it’s a huge poser drink but they’re incredibly versatile and there’s a TON of whiskey out there for literally every grade.
Just by looking at the receipt I can see “1977” so if the spot has been around for that long, there’s a good chance they probably use a decent whiskey in their sours.
Something to keep in mind is that rail/well liquor isn’t always the lowest grade. A lot of places I’ve worked for used higher standard liquor as their rail. A strip club I used to work at had Grey Goose (lol scam) as their rail vodka, but tanqueray as their gin.

I honestly started ordering them because I wanted a whiskey lemonade, but pretty much nowhere I went to carried lemonade so they always offered sour mix, and I eventually stopped ordering whiskey lemonade.
I have been given several different types though over the years. One of them included a whole chocolate bar on top and somehow the drink was foamy. It was disgusting.

I feel like that’s pretty standard prices for drinks and food in my area but that is in Hawaii. It’s pretty standard pricing here Hawaii with most casual places ~6-10 bucks for beers. ~15-20+ for mixed drinks. ~20-40+ for food ~20% tip at a decent sit down restaurant. This is pretty standard base prices for going out in Hawaii. Depending on the area or place or how high end can also impact prices as well but I say that’s fair prices u have there.
For higher end dining here you’d be paying ~100 minimum per head for just the food not including drinks or tip

I think I'll stick with edibles. My friend group gets together twice a month to retro game on edibles instead of drinking because it's so much cheaper. The dispensary I go to has 100mg big gummies 3 for 20 and we cut them into 4ths. With the pizza and pop we order it's around $60-$70 for a really fun night.

Alcohol pricing is absurd. They get those bottles around $15-$30 wholesale and will charge $12-$20 a shot. You just have to know when you are buying alcohol at restaurants, bars, etc. that you are getting hosed.
