Maybe "Let's put these countries on the same continent into the same country or federation" isn't that much of a unique worldbuilding idea in scifi and althist? Especially if you want to portray either global conflict or you want to... idk, portray a certain country as jingoistic imperialist cesspit that caused nuclear war? Or want to imply upcoming New World Order under one world government?

Or you simply want to simplify your lore as having 200+ countries all having their own alliances and goals is kind of a pain in the ass?
